Silas Weir Mitchell thinks his wolfy Grimm character Monroe could totally take on Twilight‘s werewolf Jacob… but only if he didn’t rely solely on brute strength.

“If you’re asking if Taylor Lautner‘s character could kick my a–, yeah he probably could,” Mitchell tells TVGuide.com. “I might have the wiles, but if he got the jump on me, I’d be dead meat. I’m older than he is, so I know some tricks, but like I said, if it were pound for pound, I’m dead.”

Twilight character names continue to dominate the list of most popular baby names.

Werewolf names are popping up everywhere for new babies being born thanks to their Twilight obsessed parents! People just can’t seem to get enough of Twilight, Breaking Dawn, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, etc., and now they are even naming their kids after characters in the movie! And with Bella and Edward’s daughter, Renesmee, being born in Breaking Dawn, I’m already predicting that Renesmee will be a hot girl name for 2011.

Some of the most popular werewolf names are of course, Jacob, Tyler, Alcide, Sam, Embry, and Quil. Other popular Twilight names in addition to werewolf names are most definitely the traditional names of the Cullen Clan: Edward, Bella, Carlisle, Alice, and Rosalie.

Is there anyone out there naming their babies Renesmee?

Lois would like to know who your favorite non-Twilight vampires are! And while we are at it, let’s throw the wolves in there, too. So who are your favorite vampires and werewolves that are NOT in the Twilight Saga? Spill it in the comments!

My favorite vampires are Angel & Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Stefan & Damon (Vampire Diaries). As for wolves, I love Remus Lupin in Harry Potter!

The LA Times has a great new article introducing Alex Meraz, Chaske Spencer and Julia Jones (but we don’t need introducing!), members of the Quileute tribe and Eclipse wolf pack.

Alex Meraz (Paul)

At 25, Meraz is still adjusting to the whirlwind that comes with being in a blockbuster franchise. But don’t be fooled. He’s not complaining.

“Bring it on,” he said. “I was working really hard before, and it just didn’t seem to pay off. I’m just really grateful for it all.” 

Before he caught the acting “virus,” Meraz — who admitted his first viewing of “Twilight” was a bootleg version — demonstrated his artistic tendencies through dance, martial arts and painting. In fact, he still breaks out the paint and brushes to maintain his sanity through all the “Twilight” pandemonium.

But it’s that pandemonium that gets him amped when talking about the movie.

“The fans are going to love this film,” he said. “I didn’t get my chance to touch anybody in ‘New Moon.’ This time I go at it with Emmett [ Kellan Lutz]. I give him a nice bitch slap. But I’m in wolf form, so maybe it’s a big paw slap?

“Oh, and there’s a lot more action. It’s more Paul wolf. You’re going to see my wolf form doing a lot of stuff. You’ll just see me running around shirtless once and a while.”

So what of all those topless scenes?

“I have a newfound respect for women. I have to keep my figure. Girls are telling me to take my shirt off. It’s like, ‘Hello! I’m a person, too!’ ”

Julia Jones (Leah Clearwater)

Bryce Dallas Howard isn’t the only new face to join the burgeoning ensemble cast. Jones will make her debut to the franchise as Leah Clearwater, the scorned and bitter sole female member of the Wolf Pack.

“She’s really a tough character,” said Jones, 29. “She’s pretty angry about a lot of things that she has every right to be angry about. She’s miserable and lost and trying to cope internally without a lot of help. And she lashes out quite a bit.”

Jones may not be a household name just yet, having appeared in independent films and a few episodes of “ER,” but that will surely change for the Boston native come June. And for the woman who said she knew she wanted to be an actress after playing Michael Darling in a production of “Peter Pan” as a child, it’ll be a learning process.

“I don’t know,” Jones said. “I’m just trying to take it easy while I can. It’s going to be a new thing to figure out how to navigate this craze. I’m doing my best to prepare myself for all of it.”

Chaske Spencer (Sam Uley)

Spencer reprises his role as werewolf Sam Uley, the sometimes disgruntled leader of the Wolf Pack.

Although Spencer hasn’t exactly gotten used to the global attention — “It’s cool, the recognition. But it’s work. I know how to keep my life private” — he said he doesn’t regret the decision to join the wildly popular franchise.

“There’s a lot more offers,” said Spencer, 35. “As an actor, that’s all you can hope for: more chances to keep it going.”

Spencer is in Arizona shooting his new film “Shouting Secrets,” about a successful young writer in Los Angeles who is called back to his Native American background to tend to his ailing mother.

With the media blitz already in full effect for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” Spencer said working on something completely different is a way to escape. But there’s no escaping the constant pleas for spoilers from the new flick. And like his character’s quiet, shadow-like wolf form, he only gives a whisper of details.

“This time around, Sam has to put his ego aside to take on this new breed of vampires,” Spencer said. “There’s a lot of new relationships being formed.”

Here are a handful of great screencaps from the final Eclipse trailer that released on Friday.  I’m sure I’ll have more to post, but let’s get started with these! Thanks to Katie for sending them in!

The Cullens!
We were wondering when we’d get to see more of our favorite veggie vampire family, and the Eclipse trailer does not skimp. Carlisle and the gang show up to formulate their plans to figure out who’s creating the vampire army in Seattle, Alice has a nice close-up line of dialogue, and Jasper gets his moment to shine as he leads the clan in to battle with his Confederate Army know-how. (The fight in the clearing looks amazing.) What I’m still not crazy about is the Cullen family hair, which looks a bit updated (Alice’s bob has a nice little flip to it) but still looks, well, just a tad silly (check out Jasper’s fabulous mane!). Not coincidentally, Peter Facinelli and Ashley Greene are probably two of the more popular fan fave cast members. Did they get more face time because of their popularity? 

The introduction of Riley
Curiously, the trailer downplays Victoria’s presence in favor of showing more of Riley. (Perhaps this is on purpose to deflect fan attention from the New Victoria, Bryce Dallas Howard.) But since Riley is played by Aussie actor Xavier Samuel, star of the recent horror flick The Loved Ones, I really didn’t mind. Samuel strikes a few menacing poses himself as Riley leads Victoria’s army closer to Bella, and that shot of him and the newborns walking out of the water like Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now is kind of awesome.

The biggest gift the final trailer gives us is the newborn fight, which should be the most action-packed moment in Eclipse. Slade’s vision of how it goes down is pretty thrilling, even in snippets — his camera rushes in as both sides, good vampires vs. evil vampires, run headlong into each other from the left and right. In the battle, a figure that looks like Alice runs toward a baddie and vaults out of the way just as one of the wolves grabs him. A wolf with reddish fur (is it Jacob?) tumbles with a vampire. Victoria, who’s evaded captors with her super speed in previous movies, shows off some new moves as she leaps from tree to tree in a forest chase.

The final trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will premiere next Friday, April 23, on Oprah! What parts of the story do you hope to see in the trailer?  Click through for my thoughts! I, of course, want to see LOVE TRIANGLE in action, but I would also like to see a bit more of the wolf pack, and the Cullens, as well as a bit of the battle royale!

Wolfpack member Alex Meraz has been spending sometime in Australia where he has been attending Supanova Pop Culture Expo and representing for Twilight!  In this interview with the Courier Mail, Alex explains how he forgets about his celeb status now and again, and how Kristen Stewart helped him to adjust.

Meraz has now made his mark as a member of the supernatural Wolf Pack. He wasn’t prepared for the overwhelming adulation of stardom, however.

“It’s kind of odd a lot of times because I forget – I really, truly forget sometimes – how big this franchise is,” he says.

“Like, I’ll go out to get something to eat, and then people call my name, and then I’m thinking, ‘Oh, do I know them?’ It’s a weird thing to try to understand. Y’know, I’m just Alex, I’m nobody different than you.

“And it was something that (fellow Twilight star) Kristen Stewart warned me about when I was working on New Moon. She just said, ‘Don’t try to understand it, just accept it for what it is’. It was definitely good advice.”

MTV answers some questions you may have had after watching the new Eclipse trailer this morning. SPOILER ALERT!

What’s Up With Kristen’s Hair?
The first thing you might be wondering is why Kristen Stewart’s hair looks a bit strange. The reason is that after finishing work on “New Moon” in May, Stewart chopped off her locks for her role as ’70s rocker Joan Jett in “The Runaways.” Shooting on that biopic wrapped last August, just weeks before the start of “Eclipse.” To maintain continuity with Bella Swan’s appearance in “New Moon,” Stewart was forced to don the wig you see her wearing in the “Eclipse” trailer. Some might say the do looks oddly similar to the wig Taylor Lautner had to wear in “Twilight.”

What Happened To Victoria?
Just over a minute into the trailer, we get a glimpse of the film’s central villain: Victoria. But that’s not the Victoria we know from “Twilight” and “New Moon.” That’s because last July, only weeks before “Eclipse” was due to begin filming, Bryce Dallas Howard replaced Rachelle Lefevre in the role she’d played for two movies. “I was stunned by Summit’s decision to recast the role of Victoria for ‘Eclipse,’ ” the actress said in a statement.

“It was actually a really unfortunate circumstance where the actress who everyone really cared deeply about, who has done an amazing job in this role, was unavailable,” Howard told MTV News late last year. “They were looking for someone to fill that slot. It was right before production actually happened, so of course there was intimidation there and feeling a huge responsibility to do my best.”

How Is A Human Turned Into A Vampire In The “Twilight” Universe?
A key driving point in “Eclipse” is the question of whether Pattinson’s Edward will turn Bella into a vampire. “Why are you so against me becoming like you?” she asks at one point in the trailer.

Edward’s answer is that he knows the consequences of becoming a vampire, in that immortal bloodsuckers do not age, while all their loved ones eventually die. Also, there’s the matter of how a human is transformed from a human into a vampire. The answer is that it’s unbearably painful. The process begins when a vampire pierces a human’s skin and releases venom from his glands into the human’s bloodstream. For days on end, the venom courses slowly through the human’s veins, burning ferociously as it travels and eventually causing the heart to stop pumping. It would be no easy task for Edward to inflict such pain, nor would it be easy for Bella to willingly invite it.

Why Is Everyone So Scared Of Victoria?
Why, because of her army of newborn vampires, of course. See, freshly converted vamps pose a potent threat, as they’re often uncontrollably vicious killers. Victoria has been going around Seattle slaughtering humans and building a legion of newborns. Victoria on her own is a danger that Edward and his crew could likely face. But Victoria and an army of out-of-control vampires? That’s serious cause for concern.

What, No Werewolves?!
The first “New Moon” trailer blew fans away with its first glimpse at the transformation of Lautner’s Jacob Black from human to werewolf. But if you were hoping to catch some more shape-shifting action in the “Eclipse” trailer, you’ll be disappointed.

Yet have no fear! “Eclipse” is set to feature a slew of wolf battles. You don’t think Jacob and his crew are going to walk away from a fight with Victoria’s newborn army, do you? And besides, it’s hard to complain about a lack of a hirsute Jacob when the trailer delivers what you really want: the dude flashing those famous abs.

CGSociety has a new feature in which they take a deeper look in how the CGI wolves were created for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Click through to read!

In Lucerne Valley, there is a sanctuary called Wolf Mountain where a dedicated group is trying to save wolves from extinction. This is where the Tippett artists traveled to spend personal time with the wolves, many tame enough to be approached and touched by strangers. There the artist could observe behaviors, pack interactions, hierarchy behaviors, and movement, and “closely examine the fur and its different lengths over the body, the coloring variations and markings, as well as the structure of the face, eyes, teeth and so on.”

The trip was extremely fruitful, but Phil Tippett, with his honed eye for perfection, added a second method to study fur under different controlled lighting and wind. “We had a bunch of photographs of wolves that we were studying but Phil was insisting that we take it to the next level and have something to touch, walk around, and actually do your own,” explained Fredenburg. This resulted in the creation of what became affectionately known as the “Frankenwolf”.

Tippett bought wolf pelts and cut them up with an Exacta knife and pasted it onto a taxidermy blank “so that we could do a lighting lab in two conditions? controlled lighting on our stage where we could shine very specific lights and look at how the fur responded, then we took it outside on an overcast day, which was perfect for New Moon. We came up with strategies for how to artistically make the wolves look better in flat lighting, which is what we were dealing with and is a very difficult lighting situation.”

The Calgary Herald caught up with New Moon humans Anna Kendrick, Christian Serratos, Justin Chon and Michael Welch.

If you weren’t playing humans, which would you prefer to play: a vampire or a werewolf?

Anna: I would personally rather be a werewolf since they seem to get to have a lot more fun. The vampires are very cool, but they have to be very calm and collected all the time. The werewolves get to let loose a little bit more.

Michael: I’d much rather play a vampire. Being a vampire would be cool, I think, for the first 100 years or so. It’d be fun to be able to play because vampires are just too cool; they’re just sexy and interesting and complicated.

Christian: I’d play a wolf. I’d play Leah, ’cause she’s sassy.

Everyone always talks about Team Edward and Team Jacob. Don’t you think it’s time to start Team Mike and Team Eric?

Michael: Ya, I do! Actually, I’ve had friends who’ve jokingly made up some Team Mike t-shirts.

Justin: I would love to do that. I think you’d have to campaign. It’s political. I’d need lobbyists and stuff.
