22. Robert Pattinson in the ‘Twilight’ Movies

Playing a vampire in a series of movies comes with its own set of problems, not the least of which is the built-in time limit of playing a character who doesn’t age. While Robert Pattinson was 22 playing 17 in the first Twilight movie, he’ll be 26 playing the part in the final film. Forgive us the pun, but that’s getting a little long in the tooth for a teenage vampire.

The most basic of questions is, “Would the fans want a TV show?” Only 27% of the fansbase responded to that question with a flat-out “no”. The remainder were split between instant approval and maybe. The most important thing to the fans in these last two categories was the involvement of Stephenie Meyer. It’s no shock to anyone that Twilight fans are highly protective of their franchise. They don’t like deviation from what is in the books. Author Stephenie Meyer is for many fans the final word when it comes to change. If Stephenie Meyer approves it, then they’ll accept adjustments. One fan named Jackie summed it up by stating, “I think a TV show or series would be a great idea. It would have to have Stephenie involved to have the same continuity as the books. Her story and the way she tell it is what sells the books and the movies, it would not work if it went in any other direction.”

“‘Superfudge,’ that’s an odd choice for a 32-year old.”
[Laughs] Yeah, yeah. Or even like their DVD collection. But I think that when Jesse pulls that book off of her shelf, I think he’s unconsciously — or consciously — looking to drive a wedge between them. And part of the way to drive a wedge is to say, “You read this junk and I would never read this junk; therefore, we can never be together.” I’m sure you can look at it as, “Oh, that guy hates vampire books.” But that’s not the case, I don’t know those books. I know that ["Twilight"] is a cultural phenomenon and people are very passionate about it. My whole thing is that I want to explore why you read books, what’s the purpose of reading, and maybe that it’s not that cool to hate something just because it’s popular.

I’ve seen the movies.
They might be horrible! I have no idea. But her argument in favor of taking some enjoyment from them is totally valid. And I think she wins the argument. And she says that line: “You think it’s cool to hate things. And it’s not. It’s boring. Talk about what you love and keep quiet about what you don’t.” If I’m saying anything in that moment — and I’m not making a message movie here — but I do feel that there’s so much hatred. We are so vocal about what we hate.

It would be interesting if you said right now, “This is a message movie, and the message is that I don’t like ‘Twilight.’”
[Laughs] That is not me who said that.

“All the work put into this movie was just to share my feelings on ‘Twilight.’”
I made this movie to take it down. To take down the franchise.

That’s my headline.
Because the power of indie film can stand up to Summit Entertainment. It’s boundless.

How does Elizabeth Reaser feel about the “Twilight” jokes?
Oh, boy, did she love it. She loved it. She got such a kick out of it. I think that’s one of the great in-jokes of the movie: that Reaser is in the “Twilight” movies. She has a really funny, healthy detachment from the whole thing. I think she knows what it is and she is desperate to do other things in addition to that. Which everyone is, if you’ve been doing one thing for too long. You can talk to her about it, but she got a real kick out of it.

I didn’t know if there was a “the less I say, the better,” type of situation there.
She was not offended.

For starters, in the Best Picture category, two Twilight castmate films were picked – The Help, which stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“Victoria” in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), and Midnight In Paris, which stars Michael Sheen (“Aro” – Volturi). Midnight In Paris also received several other nominations, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Director.

Gil Birmingham’s Rango (he voiced the character “Wounded Bird” for the film), meanwhile, was nominated for Best Animated Feature. That’s about as good as it can get with these animated pictures, so congrats to Gil and the whole Rango team.

Next up, actor Demian Bichir was nominated for Best Actor for his work in Summit Entertainment’s A Better Life – a film which was directed by The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz.

I hope this show comes back permanently. I would totally see it!

You’ve spoken publicly about your love for Twilight. What is it about the series that you love so much?
I would say that you completely lose yourself in the purest form of romance. It’s the first time in so long that you get to see such a strong love, and get so caught up in it without any of the physicality

You’ve also been outspoken about your crush on Robert Pattinson. Have you gotten to meet him yet?
No, I have not met Rob. But, I have many mutual friends and have heard nothing but the loveliest things about him. I think he’s a very talented actor and would love to meet him in the future.

If you could style any of the Twilight cast, who would you pick and why?
Bella and Edward — I would love to dress them as a couple because I think that’s always fun.

If you had to pick: Twilight books or movies?
Movies, because I’m an extremely visual person. I actually read the books after the movies, which was fun because I could see Kristen and Robert as Bella and Edward.

Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Team Edward, obvi.

You’ve said you came THIS close to naming your son Cullen. What did your husband think of that? How does he feel about your Twilight obsession?
My husband thinks my obsession is weird and twisted — I Can’t help it. The name, Cullen, was a close contender, but Rodger thought naming our son after a Twilight character would have been mean to do to Skyler.

Have you ever read any Twilight fan sites?
If only I had more hours in the day! …I would obviously read Team-Twilight.

Team Edward! Team Jacob! Before a January 16 developmental reading of Twilight: The Musical, ushers warmed up an already enthusiastic crowd at New World Stages with a cheer-off, pitting “the girliest screams for the sparkliest man” against wolf-inspired howling. There was singing. There was dancing. There was a half-vampire baby born on stage, and a grown werewolf that fell in love with it. Such is the magic of Twilight.

The one-night-only benefit event, featuring a book and lyrics by Ashley Griffin, music by four composers, and direction by Gabriel Barre, crammed the teenage vampire saga of the Twilight book series into a two-hour show, with a little Harry Potter thrown in forgood measure. You read that right: Instead of the book’s rival group of evil vampires led by the vicious Victoria, the Twilight kids square off against the three stars of Harry Potter, led by a Hermione Granger incensed that “we’re not the most popular teen saga anymore.” Things didn’t end that well for the Potter pals, but hey, this really isn’t their story.

Some Twilight basics, for the truly uninitiated: Angsty teenager Bella Swan moves to sun-free Forks, Washington, and falls in love with the even angstier “teenager” Edward Cullen, who is beautiful and brooding and a vampire. Bella’s friend Jacob Black, a werewolf, is also in love with her. Vampires and werewolves don’t get along. Don’t worry, there is a song called “Supernatural Love Triangle.”

With only eight actors and a grand total of 24 hours of rehearsaltime, Griffin and Barre had to count on a cast who “have comic chops, are wonderful singers and actors and do angst really well,” according to Griffin. The talented group included Next to Normal vet Meghann Fahy as Bella, Colin Hanlon as Edward and Jared Zirilli as Jacob, with Broadway vet Jenna Leigh Green as “Angela/Rosalie/Hermione/Leah/Esme,” A Very Potter Musical alum Lauren Lopez as “Alice/Jessica/Renesmee/Jane” and Jeffry Denman, Olli Haaskvili and Jason Michael Snow in too many roles to count. There were a lot of wigs.

Next Movie got to attend the one night only event as well, and they gave their thoughts on the evening:

“Twilight: The Musical” is in the works, and it’s pretty freaking great. How do I know? My girlfriend and I were two of the lucky people who got to see the one-night-only “concert reading” of the show.

“Concert reading”? Yeah, I was worried going in, and to fortify myself I chugged a couple $4 sangrias at the New World Stages bar. For any of you with theater-geek friends, you understand my hesitation. The only thing worse than getting roped into attending a horrible play is sitting through a horrible reading of a horrible play. You can’t even be proud of the performers for memorizing their lines, yet.

Upon entering the theater, we found flannel-clad girls acting as Bella ushers. Cute, right? No. They weren’t actually ushers, they were “instigators” who were dramatically trying to convince audience members to cheer for Team Jacob or Team Edward and growl or howl. I felt like I was trapped in high school drama again with the attention-starved, ADHD girls who only got louder and dyed their hair crazier colors the more you ignored them.

As I resolved to leave at intermission, Annie read the playbill and said, “Hey, there are some real actors in this.” Playing Bella is Meghann Fahy, who did 81 episodes of “One Life To Live” and the Broadway show “Next To Normal.” There is even a Tumblr fan page for her. Colin Hanlon, who has guest-starred on “Modern Family” and appeared in “Rent” on Broadway, plays Edward. I’m not sure why a soap opera role and a bit part in a sitcom made me feel better, but they did.

Before the show, the director or producer — I’m not sure, he was an older man with his gray hair in a ponytail, which made him a theater authority figure — stood up to explain that they’d just finished, and that they’d only been rehearsing over the last 24 hours. That wasn’t very assuring, but the vibe in the sold-out theater was still one of excitement.  Mr. Ponytail didn’t say when or if “Twilight: The Musical” will have a run, but definitely made it seem like there are future plans.

“I’m anticipating ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2′ being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” Feltheimer told theLos Angeles Times. “It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value. It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration”

So does he want the franchise to continue? “The simple answer is ‘Boy I hope so,’” Feltheimer said. And could that mean a “Twilight” TV series, considering that Lionsgate — unlike Summit — already does TV work? “I would certainly hope so,” he said.

Of course, “Twilight” fans have proved pretty much beyond a doubt that they will support the franchise. But do fans want more “Twilight” if that means moving beyond what is in Stephenie Meyers’ books? Is the idea of exploring the world of “Twilight” a good one even if it might have to be done without stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner? Or is this just Hollywood execs making a naked cash grab by exploiting the devotion of “Twilight” fans?

What do you think? Would you like to see a Twilight TV series? I personally don’t think I would. But then again…

“Behind the Scenes: The Real Story of the Quileute Wolves” opens today at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. and will be on display through May 9, in the museum’s second-level Sealaska Gallery.  The exhibition brings together rare works of Quileute art as a counterpoint to the supernatural storyline depicted in the “Twilight” novels and movies.

While it seems that the intent of the exhibit is to explain the true history of the Quileute tribe, they do take “The Twilight Saga’s” impact on their culture into account.  Among the 23 objects showcased in the exhibit are replicas of items used in the ”Twilight” films include a paddle necklace worn by Tinsel Korey as Emily, a traditional Quileute hand drum that hangs in Emily’s house, a shell necklace of Olivella shells that was on the wall of her house and the dream catcher that Jacob gives to Bella as a gift.  In addition, tribal members and teens describe in interview the impact of “Twilight” during a 12-minute video in which the history and oral cultural traditions are discussed.

Tamera confessed she was excited to see Robert Pattinson because she’s a huge Twilight nerd (welcome to the club, girl), and that led us down the road of gushing over Rob and Kristen Stewart‘s cute couple steeze. And gush we did!

“They’re both really edgy and romantic at the same time,” Tia explained of Robsten’s appeal. “They’re romantic, but it’s not that corny, whimsical kind of romance.”

Anna Kendrick tells Contact Music that Twilight was such a small production, and they had so little expectation of its success, that the cast had to organize their own wrap party!

She said: “People say, ‘But you must have known it was a big deal,’ but no, we didn’t.

“We even threw our own wrap party after the first movie. Emails were exchanged between us saying, ‘Hey, do you want to hang out? Do you think we should have a little wrap party thing?’

“It was not like being on a big movie; the success of the first film was an accident. I don’t really think something like that would happen by accident again.”

It’s too late to be a Christmas present, but The Twilight Bus, seen at several Twilight Conventions and other Twilight events in the Sacramento, Calif. area, can be yours to take to Breaking Dawn, Part 1 midnight DVD release party or the Part 2 premiere. Yes, The Twilight Bus is for sale.

The former school bus was purchased on craigslist for $1500 by the Silva family to replace their 15 passenger van. They needed something roomier to transport their 10 children including several kids with special needs. The bus needed to be repainted and it was the kids who decided to go with a Twilight theme.  Local businesses worked with the family to get the bus painted and the vinyl decal images placed on the vehicle.

The sale of the vehicle includes all the memorabilia and autographed items, several boxes of merchandise and thetwilightbus.com domain and twitter account.

The Twilight Bus is listed on craigslist here for $20,000, but it also says she is “interested in trades for a newer van/minivan/truck.”

Ayanna Berkshire: I was working in Portland, Oregon as an actress at the time. WhenTwilight was looking to cast their roles for supporting characters, they looked to local Oregon talent first.

From my recollection, the role of Cora was originally written as a middle aged “Flo” type character, the typical small town diner waitress. They were not looking to cast anyone like me, but I had just finished working on Kelly Reichardt’s independent film, Wendy and Lucy with Michelle Williams and since the casting director, Lana Veenker and her assistant Lori knew my work, they felt confident that I could pull off the role of Cora if given the chance.  They brought me in for the first audition, simply as an opportunity for LA casting to see if they’d like to bring me back for a second audition- they did!

My second audition was with Catherine Hardwicke where we role-played, i.e. Catherine playing both Bella AND Charlie with myself playing Cora. I left that audition convinced that I’d blown my chance and lost the role, because we’d spent the entire audition laughing. Catherine kept throwing in these hilarious scenarios like, my line would be, “Say Chief, Did you find anything down by Queets River today?” And she’d say something like, “Yep, Looks like ol’ Waylon was eaten by a Vampire.” I’d have to respond with “Wow, really?? Shoot Chief, that really sucks. More Berry Cobbler?”. It was one of the most fun auditions I’ve ever had.

I found out about a week and a half later that I’d landed the role of Cora!

PP: The scene between you and Kristen and Billy is pretty long.  What was it like filming with Kristen?  Were you aware of her as an actress before this movie?

AB: I was aware of Kristen from Panic Room and she’d been working since such a young age, it was great to talk with her about filmmakers, acting and our mutual acting influences while we were between shots.

It was really interesting filming with Kristen, because she was such a quiet and thoughtful actress. She was very aware of what was happening around her on set, but then she could seamlessly drop into the scene and be fully engaged. She cares a greatdeal about what she’s creating as an artist and that was really cool to see in her. At the time, she was still 17 (she turned 18 on set, a big deal because it meant that she could work full days and not have to end early due to child labor laws) and she had been around for a long time already. I was impressed because she came across as a very seasoned and extremely professional actress.

It’s no secret that we’re mildly (okay, completely) obsessed with all things related to Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy. Set in a dystopian future, the story centers around Katniss Everdeen, a teenager who must fight for her life in a twisted tournament of death run by the government. Naturally, we’re super psyched about the upcoming movie based on the books.

Before the March 2012 big screen debut of The Hunger Games, we decided to pull Katniss out of the arena and square her off against another well-known female lead: Bella Swan ofStephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. Have you experienced much Twilight mania first hand?

Yes, I have been to quite a few of the pre-release events over the years, especially if soundtrack artists are involved. It is a privilege to work on a project with a positive and enthusiastic fan base.

What were some of the trials and tribulations of putting the latest Twilightsoundtrack together?

Only the masses of excellent (and unreleased) submissions we get at the Chop Shop offices for each film. Scores of truly memorable tracks and only 15-20 places in the movie. It was really wonderful working with Bill Condon – I am eagerly awaiting Breaking Dawn 2.

What have you learned from the success of Twilight over the years?

We tend to select a mix of established and respected alternative artists and performers that are less known but always the song that is selected is the best to tell the story. I do believe that is why these OST’s connect so strongly with the audience. They are hearing the songs for the first time, certainly and often are experiencing the bands for the first time as they watch the film. Heady stuff.

I was sitting in my cubicle at work doing my daily routine; that is, pretending to be working when I am really on Facebook. I heard someone approaching, so I quickly minimized Farmville. It was Kathy, my annoying co-worker. I knew it was her because I heard the sounds from her Avon jingle bell earrings that she wore every year at Christmas time.

I spun my chair around and desperately tried to greet her with a smile. Kathy proceeded to invite me on a girls night out to catch the new Twilight movie. I declined her invite. I explained to her  that I wasn’t a follower; in other words, I had never seen any of the movies, nor had I  read the books. Well, by her reaction, you would have thought I just admitted to killing someone and hiding them in my basement. She shrieked: “YOU DID NOT SEE TWILIGHT?” Needless to say, the very next day Kathy brought in the entire Twilight saga for me to watch. Oh, and the latest Avon catalog. I graciously accepted these offerings, but only because she also included some glazed donuts for my viewing pleasure.

The following weekend, Tank, my Italian Stallion boyfriend, went on a hunting trip with his friends. Translation: A bunch of men getting drunk in some cabin and playing poker. I had no plans and no motivation. Therefore, I decided to watch Kathy’s damn Twilight DVDs. Like the others before it, the newest Avon catalog made it to the top of the pile o’books on the back of my commode.

Into the first 20 minutes of the first DVD, I quickly became enamored with Edward, replaying every scene where he graced his chiseled pale face upon. I stayed up all night to watch all three movies and then hit the Sunday Matinee to see Breaking Dawn. I had to fight a 16 year-old girl for the last front seat by giving her my gummi bears to get her to move her Hollister wearing ass. My new obsession had turned me into a bribing bully and brought on a total depression about my love life. I mean Tank was nice, but he never came through my window and watched me sleep, or followed me wherever I went to make sure I was safe. Who am I kidding? I would probably call the police if he did any of that, thinking he was nuttier then a Payday bar, but you know what I mean. I didn’t want to settle anymore. I wanted someone to love me like Edward loves Bella. I wanted spine tingling, earth shattering, would-walk-through-fire-for- you love.

Thanks to Kathy and my own need for romance, my Twilight addiction continued throughout the week. She provided me with the books and, in return, I provided her with an order for three gallons worth of Skin So Soft. I avoided Tank’s calls like the plague. I just couldn’t face him knowing I was mentally cheating on him for days with a fictional teen age vampire. I knew I couldn’t allow this to go on forever. I couldn’t just spend my nights and weekends locked in an apartment wishing I was 15 years younger and living in Forks, Washington. I couldn’t live in regret for my past horrible relationship decisions either. I spent a lot of money on shrinks, booze, and shoes to heal those wounds already. I needed help and knew just where to get it. I went to the one person who I hoped could straighten me out, my Mother.

Navarro was director Bill Condon’s choice for lensing Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and Part 2, the final two films in the hugely-popular Twilight series. “Being approached by Bill immediately drew my interest,” Navarro says. “He’s a filmmaker I’ve always liked. It was a very, very strong collaboration, and I enjoyed every bit of it.”

The two films were cross-boarded and filmed simultaneously at locations varying from Vancouver  to Louisiana to Brazil. “One week, we were shooting one movie, and within the same week, a piece of the other. It was very complicated.”

Just as complex was the creation of the looks for Breaking Dawn. It was not simply a matter of watching the previous three films and attempting to recreate the work of the earlier cinematographers. “There is nothing which defined a single look for the three films,” he says. “The first movie is entirely different from the second and the third. It’s a completely different aesthetic.”

The concept of a movie being assigned “looks,” Navarro says, “is something I very much resent. That expression kind of implies responding to a scene and pulling out a gadget to see what existing recipe we should apply to the problem. If it’s dark, light it one way, or a fight, light it another way. That’s not at all how I work and come up with things.”

Upon reading the script, he says, “It was clear that the story was sufficiently different from the previous movies, and that things were extended in a way that I could approach them from a different perspective. I felt that doing a strong change in the film language would help the story. And that’s what we ended up doing.”

Navarro explains that he and Condon created a “dramatic visual landscape” for the whole movie. “We created visual highs and lows, chose where those fit in, and then found a very good visual narrative for certain sequences that really benefited from it. I’m very happy with how it came out.”

The films were shot on a challenging schedule. Navarro and Condon had to efficiently map out their various aesthetics before shooting began. “There was very limited time to execute and bear with all the difficulties and adversities of a movie like this,” he says. “We looked at how we were going to tell the story, combining all of those elements.”

Taking a fresh approach meant re-creating from scratch the parallel realities of the different characters’ worlds. “We did a lot of tests and work on how the look of those worlds was going to appear. We wanted to stay away from other things that worked for the other movies,” such as Edward’s (Robert Pattinson) heavy white make-up, a signature of his vampire look, in order to focus more on what was going on inside the characters.

It’s that time of year when everyone seems to be making a top ten list, so why don’t we jump into the mix too. Let’s take a look at the Top Ten Twilight Saga Iconic Film Moments leading up to Breaking Dawn Part 1.

1. The original Twilight movie has possibly the most iconic image of the series. It’s the moment where both Bella and Edward are entranced with each other right after Edward saves Bella from Tyler’s out-of-control van. For many fans who didn’t know anything about Twilight until they saw the films, that was the moment that hooked them. They became captivated by Robert Pattinson and/or the Bella and Edward love story right there during those intense few seconds.

2. One of the most parodied parts of the entire series is the infamous moment in the meadow of “Say it out loud. Vampire.” If you ask people who aren’t fans of the series for a Twilight Saga moment that stands out in their minds, this one is easily it. Even though we don’t get the romantic meadow scene as presented in the book, the scene is memorable to fans nonetheless. It’s the big reveal to Bella that confirms what Edwards is, and consequently it’s what drives the action forward from that point on.

3. The final iconic moment in Twilight is the prom with Edward and Bella’s dance at the gazebo. It’s the first truly prolonged, tender moment they have in the films. Iron and Wine’s song Flightless Bird: American Mouth underscored the sequence and became an instant fan favorite. It was now unofficially Bella and Edward’s song, the one that defined who they were to each other. So far, it is the only song to make a comeback on any of the soundtracks. It currently serves as the song at their wedding in Breaking Dawn Part 1.

4. Moving on to New Moon, the image that hauntingly epitomizes much of the movie is Bella huddled alone in the forest abandoned by Edward. It sets the tone of depression and isolation that lasts almost the entire film. Even in some of her lighter moments with Jake, Bella still suffers from a broken heart. The image of her in a fetal position as leaves blow over her on the damp forest ground represents what she still feels inside.

5. Every fan is aware of the Team Edward vs. Team Jacob debate. The moment when Team Jacob first took over the screen is the next iconic moment — and t happens when Bella crashes the motorcycle and Jacob runs over to her. Not only do we get the famous “You’re sort of beautiful” line from the novel, but we also get a look at the 8-pack that launched Taylor Launter’s heartthrob status.  Everyone knew Lautner bulked up for New Moon, but now it was obvious to what degree that was true.  Adult fans everywhere started counting down to Lautner’s eighteenth birthday because, as one put it, “It makes the drooling seem less inappropriate.”

Ann Rice

Like vampires themselves, vampire authors don’t all stick together. Anne Rice, known for her series “The Vampire Chronicles,” which gave us Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt as vampires in “Interview with the Vampire,” stuck a stake right through Twi-hards’ hearts this October.

Prompted by the question “Should vampires sparkle?” Rice responded on Facebook that Louis and Lestat “would never hurt immortals who choose to spend eternity going to high school over and over again in a small town – any more than they would hurt the physically disabled or the mentally challenged.” What? She’s calling the Cullens retarded? She added, “My vampires possess gravitas. They can afford to be merciful.”

I know she has a ton of money already, but that was a stupid move. At some point, many young “Twilight” readers would have graduated to her books and she’d enjoy a revival. Not now.

Miley Cyrus

A repeated offender when it comes to “Twilight” bashing, Miley Cyrus has been taking pot shots at the series for the last two years.

In 2009, when asked about the movie, she replied, “I don’t believe in it. I don’t like vampires, I don’t like the wolf that pops out of the screen when I’m watching TV at night. I don’t want anything to do with it. I don’t like the shirts, I don’t like any of it.”

Did she begin by saying she doesn’t “believe” in “Twilight”? Even if she doesn’t like it, she does realize it’s an actual thing, right?

Later that same year, when asked about Twi-hards, this “wordsmith” picked some choice critique again. “I think it’s like [a] cult … I think it’s a cult. I think it’s bad. I think it’s like, just people get too into it.” I’m sure you like the thousands and thousands of cultish fans who show up to your concerts, Miley.

And because the press loves to bait her, Miley said this last year about R.Pattz and Lautner: “I’d rather keep the dead and revolting things like vampires and werewolves out of my life.”

As a fan of the Hunger Games trilogy, I can’t tell you enough good things about this series.  It was the only series that I enjoyed as much as Twilight, but for very different reasons of course.  In a great article from the Twilight Examiner they break down the reasons why Twilight fans will love the Hunger Games.

It’s Stephanie Meyers Approved

Stephenie Meyer recommended the book herself with very high praise, saying, “I was so obsessed with this book I had to take it with me out to dinner and hide it under the edge of the table so 
I wouldn’t have to stop reading.” She’s not alone in that.

Being Ahead of the Games

There’s still time to get your fill before the first movie! It’s hard to know an exact percentage, but many Twilight Saga fans were introduced to the books after seeing the first film hit theaters in 2008. With The Hunger Games, since the first film adaptation isn’t due until March 23rd, 2012, there’s plenty of time to get sucked into the books before they hit the big screen.

It’s Just Plain Good

I’ve recommended this series to you all before, and the reason is that this series, above and beyond all of the qualities listed above, is just plain good. Suzanne Collins has a knack for keeping her readers on the edges of their seats. Luckily for anyone who hasn’t picked up the series just yet, it’s complete! The final installment in the trilogy was released last August, so there’ll be no waiting around. You can tear through them all – and you will – without pause. The series is gripping, exciting, fun, and more than anything else,extremely intense.

The 74-year-old actor, who played Hikaru Sulu in the original Star Trek series, released a plea on YouTube that fans of both sci-fi properties forget their differences and focus on the real problem: Twilight.

His suggestion is clearly tongue-in-cheek viral bait, but his thoughts on the vampire series are pretty harsh.

“Gone is any sense of heroism, camaraderie or epic battle. In its place we have vampires that sparkle, moan and go to high school,” he says. “Sci-fi fans be warned, there are no great stories, characters or profound life lessons to be found in Twilight… In Twilight, the only message that rings through loud and clear is: ‘Does my boyfriend like me?’”

Both The Twilight Saga and Taylor Lautner were part of Facebook’s Memology 2011 report, which details what people were talking about on Facebook this year.

The Twilight Saga Facebook page was the second most popular movie page for the year, with over twenty-six and a half million people “liking” it, and Taylor Lautner’s Facebook page, which just began this summer, shot up to become the sixth most popular in the category of Actors & TV Personalities.

Given the size and ever-increasing influence of Facebook as a social network, this is a great gauge of what’s popular with the public.

The growth of the Twilight Facebook page has also been fascinating to watch. Less than two years ago, it hit the five million “likes” mark, and now, it’s ballooned into five times that size. When it hit the twenty-five million mark this September, Jackson Rathbone (“Jasper Hale” in the Twilight Saga) issued a personalized greeting to thank the Twilight fan community for launching the platform to such heights.

By the way, in case you were wondering why fellow Twilight Saga celebrities like Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson weren’t on the list for Facebook Memology 2011, it’s because they don’t have official fan pages (See this list for official cast social network accounts).

It’s a regular occurrence here on Team-Twilight that we get questions asking for Kristen, Rob or Taylor’s official Twitter. It’s been confirmed by the stars themselves, co-stars, Summit Entertainment, and official reps for the stars that they do not have public Twitter accounts. They may have private personal ones but it is VERY unlikely those accounts will be under their real names. So let’s review how to spot a faker. Keep in mind, I watch a LOT of videos and see how they act a LOT so I know a lot about these people. And while this is all in good fun, it’s also important to pay attention!

1) Do they speak English? If the person tweeting doesn’t speak English very well, it’s a fake. All three of these stars have high school level education and can write in a sentence that makes sense.

2) Do they speak like they are from their home country? If Taylor says “Mum” instead of “Mom” it might be a fake. If Kristen says “you lot” instead of something like “you guys” that might be a sign. Now, I suppose Rob might say something very American, but I don’t know what things AREN’T said in England, so I am not going to give an example.

3) Do they talk about Twilight all the time or quote the books or films? Personally, I am not thinking that any of these guys, especially R/K, would talk about Twilight that much.

4) What “friends” do they promote on their respective Twitters? A fake Taylor one lately has TONS of retweets about Awkward Moments, including one about a teacher. Taylor is not in school to have a teacher. Pay attention to the little facts.

5) Some of us follow these guys well enough to know their travel schedule. If they are tweeting about watching football at home when you know they are in Paris for a press conference, it’s a fake!

6) If it just doesn’t SOUND like the stars, it’s a fake. Kristen would very likely not say “I think English accents are sexy!”

7) As much as we love them, the stars don’t get our nicknames for them. If they use terms or have profile names like “Robsten” or “Kstew” or “RPattz” it’s HIGHLY likely that they are fake.

8 ) Do they interact with other CONFIRMED Twilight twitters? If three unconfirmed ones interact, then they might all be fake.

9) If they spend a lot of time telling you to follow people like Justin Beiber, Vanessa Hudgens, etc., then they are probably fake.

These are just a few items. Pay attention to what is being said. Most importantly, remember that mega-stars like R/K/T can get their accounts confirmed easily and quickly. If you have been following a Taylor for 6 months and it isn’t confirmed, it’s probably a fake.
