Bill Condon and partner Jack Morrissey have been spending some time in London where the score for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1, was being recorded with composer Carter Burwell (who scored the original Twilight) was heading things up. Morrissey has taken to his Twitter to give some details about the recording sessions, including a couple of familiar faces who came in to show their support.

Two morsels for Friday: *The score is recorded. *I thought you’d be interested in hearing that NEW MOON composer Alexandre Desplat and ECLIPSE composer Howard Shore both happened to be in London this week and stopped by to visit TWILIGHT and BD composer Carter Burwell.

*Lastly — for the moment, anyway — the score was recorded at historic Abbey Road Studios (http://www.abbeyroad.com/) Still owned by the Beatles

All six STAR WARS scores were recorded there, as were all three LORD OF THE RINGS scores (also by Howard Shore), and at least HARRY POTTER 7

How exciting! Do you think any of the previous films’ scores (especially Twilight, which was written by Burwell himself) will influence the new music we’ll hear on November 18?

Nowadays Steve Nickerson, Summit Entertainment’s president of home entertainment, isn’t surprised by how well anything “Twilight” does at retail.

So when the Recording Industry Association of America, or RIAA, announced this month that the combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases of Music Videos and Performances from The Twilight Saga Soundtracks Vol. 1 had reached RIAA-certified gold status Nickerson was more pleased than surprised.

“It’s a little bit of a unique project we developed with Atlantic [Records], and we’re happy with the consumer reaction to it,” he said. “Each of the three individual soundtracks did more than well, and while any of the videos may be available through the individual artists, to put them all together in a product was a unique opportunity,”

This “visual soundtrack” ($34.99 Blu-ray, $26.99 DVD) features music videos and live performances from bands featured on the soundtracks of The Twilight Saga: Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse, including Muse, Paramore, Death Cab For Cutie and Cee Lo Green. More than 20 songs are included, and bonus features include two more performances: Debussy “Clair de Lune” and Verdi “La Traviata.” The collection also is available for download via iTunes.

Nickerson knows most “Twilight” fans are already hip to the collection, but he has a message for those who haven’t happened on it yet: “If you’re a fan of the movies and you’re a fan of the music, you should take a look at it.”

While this may have come as a surprise to some, as a Twilight fan and avid lover of music, this is no surprise to me at all!  Twilight’s music ROCKS!

When I was 14, I was offered a contract, but my heart wasn’t to be a solo artist; my heart was to be in a band,” she said. “I mean, since I [was] a kid, I’ve always just wanted to be in a band. I didn’t even want to be the singer; I wanted to be the drummer, so I could be behind everything. And that’s what I fought for, and that’s what we’ve made it. And that’s why it seemed so irrelevant that everything was being pointed out [in Farro's statement]. I mean, we’ve been honest about it, and we are a band, and, to me, it doesn’t matter if there’s a name on a contract. I hate business, it’s the last thing I ever want to talk about. So when that was brought up in the blog, I just felt like, ‘Man, fans shouldn’t care or need to hear about this stuff,’ because all that does is get in the way of music.”

“We’re not a manufactured band. We’ve dealt with that rumor for a long time, and that’s because of the rumors of Fueled by Ramen and Atlantic’s relationship. We’ve always talked about that … saying, you know, when we started, I again fought for something that we could really work hard and start from the ground,” Williams said. “That’s the kind of music that I love, and that’s the kind of music we’ve all shared interest in since day one, and we wanted to be that kind of band, we wanted to be those kind of people that worked for whatever they were going to get. We didn’t know it would turn into this. Thank God it did, because we got to experience so many cool things.”

Film composer Carter Burwell, who scored the original Twilight film, including “Bella’s Lullaby” that appeared on the film’s soundtrack, has signed on to score parts 1 AND 2 of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn! From IndieWire:

Coen Brothers and Spike Jonze regular collaborator Carter Burwell is set to return to the ‘Twilight’ since working on the first film to perform scoring duties for the final installment of the series, the two parter “Twilight: Breaking Dawn.”

Burwell has an existing relationship with the director of the final two parts, Bill Condon, having collaborated on “Kinsey” and “Gods And Monsters” and will return to the position after Alexandre Desplat followed him for “New Moon” with Howard Shore stepping in for “Eclipse.” Shooting began this past November with all major cast members such as Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning, Michael Sheen, Anna Kendrick and Ashley Greene reprising their roles. The two parts will be shot as one project and will then be respectively released on November 18th, 2011 and November 16th, 2012. And in case you haven’t do so already, check out Burwell’s score for “True Grit,” it’s ace.

As with the Twilight series’ soundtracks, the scores have been stellar as well. The powers that be have managed some amazing composing talent, and I am glad to see Burwell back on the roster.

Only the most try-hard of Twihards remember the exact rules of vampire baseball. But you might recall hearing Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole” as the Cullen family stepped up to the plate in the first installment of the Twilight Saga. But then, maybe that’s not your favorite Twilight musical moment (scenes involving goofy baseball shirts so infrequently are). Maybe you’re more into swooning along to Iron & Wine’s “Flightless Bird” as Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) slow-dance at their school prom (Twilight). Or gasping over Bella’s near-death visions of Edward as Grizzly Bear’s “Slow Life” burbles up from the watery depths (New Moon). Whatever your favorite Twilight track is, though, Alexandra Patsavas had a part in it.

Dose.ca: Could you tell me how you go about putting together music for a Twilight soundtrack? When does work begin?

Alexandra Patsavas: The work begins once the supervisor is hired and the script is distributed. We [the director, the producers and later, the artists] spend a lot of time during production while the movie’s being shot just starting to talk about music, starting to have a conversation about tone and feel, but the real work begins after the movie is shot so we can start to pair music with footage.

Dose.ca: Is it a different process working on a Twilight movie than any other project you’ve done?

Patsavas: It’s been an incredible process. Of course there’s been three Twilight movies that have been released and a great deal of interest from some pretty particular artists and that’s been really a wonderful experience. And also we’ve had many bands come into the cutting room and really work directly with the director to create music for these movies. Beck came in the cutting room and Lykke Li and Grizzly Bear, Mute Math — so we’ve had quite a few bands really tailoring music for the movies. Hayley Williams, as well, from Paramore.

Dose.ca: How unusual is that?

Patsavas: You know, I think it is pretty unusual unless it’s a movie about musicians or bands, in which case it’s a whole different animal. It’s pretty unusual to have so many bands creating signature pieces for a project.

Dose.ca: Why has that been such a priority for these movies?

Patsavas: I think more than anything [Twilight Saga author] Stephenie Meyer has always referenced music and included playlists, and music is a big part of Twilight. And the producers and directors wanted to feature it.

Dose.ca: What do you keep in mind when selecting songs for the movies, apart from what Meyer has written in the books. What are the things you’re thinking of?

Patsavas: I think that music really resonates with fans when it enhances the emotions in the scene and the acting, so I think more than anything we’re trying to make — to make the score and the songs seamless. To make sure all the songs feel like Twilight songs. And tell a story to the audience. … I think definitely we’re always thinking about Bella and Edward and Jacob and just about the atmosphere ofTwilight itself. There are characters and then there is the character of Twilight. … I think the music has to evoke, you know, it’s got an indie feel, it has a smart lyric, it has a memorable hook. Of course, over the three movies we have sourced many different kinds of scenes — love scenes and love-lost scenes, and fight scenes, but I think there’s a certain through-line.

A recent article from NME has revealed how the great new music is picked for each Twilight soundtrack.

Music supervisors Paul Katz and Alexandra Patsavas have claimed that choosing songs from big artists, plus smaller acts such as Fanfarlo and Bombay Bicycle Club, doesn’t stem from an attempt to cash in on bands’ cool factors.

“We have forward-thinking directors and they have a progressive music taste,” Patsavas said. “It’s completely natural.”

And some hints as to why they picked the music they did this time around:

Patsavas said an important factor was the tone of each scene. “This is the battle movie,” she said of Eclipse. “So there should be some conflict in the music, so we have a band like The Dead Weather there.”

Robert Pattinson has scored a spot on NAMM’s (National Association of Music Merchants) Top Unexpected Musicians list.  In case you forgot, Pattinson’s appearance on the Twilight soundtrack helped it to break sales records. Here is what they had to say about Rpattz.

The band Muse has been huge worldwide, and especially in the UK, for several years, but have had some difficulty breaking into the American music scene.  Well, it seems Twilight has helped them out a bit on that front, and they know it!  Here is what they had to say about it.

Muse believe their appearance on the soundtrack to The Twilight Saga films has helped them win fans in America.

The band have contributed songs to the opening two films in the popular vampire franchise, including the recent hit New Moon.

Speaking to Asia One, bassist Chris Wolstenholme said the group were originally unaware about The Twilight Saga’s cult following.

“I was vaguely aware of the books (before author Stephenie Meyer approached us) but we didn’t think anything of it at the time,” he said.

“The next thing you know, it’s Twilight fever. It’s good because it has made a difference for us in trying to break into America.”

Something smells off on the latest Rob Pattinson rumor, but if it were to actually happen I would be quite happy! Rumor is that Simon Cowell has approached Rob with a record deal.

TWILIGHT fans are such an excitable bunch I’m wary of even letting this out the bag for fear of the hysteria it will unleash.

But here we go… ROBERT PATTINSON has been approached by SIMON COWELL to sign a major record deal.

The young actor has been told he can basically write his own cheque.

To make things even sweeter for Robert, other record companies have got wind of the offer and a bidding war has broken out.

Congrats to the team behind the soundtrack for Twilight, the first film in the series! The album has received a Grammy nomination for “Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.” Fingers crossed it wins!

C=T : How’s the tour going so far? Did you visit In and Out or Amoeba whilst in Los Angeles?

MF: The tour seems to be going well, people are enjoying the shows, its amazing traveling around and a great way seeing America. I didn’t get the chance to visit In and Out burger although someone gave me a voucher for it but i did get to go to Amoeba which was insane I spent hundreds of dollars in there buying old blues and gospel records from the fifties I could live in that place.

C=T : Your music has been selected on two different occasions to appear in cinema. How do you decide if you want your work to appear in said works?

MF: One of the films had Christopher Walken in it and I’m a big fan of his so I couldn’t say no and it’s a great movie called ‘Five Dollars A Day’. The other film was different because a friend of mine sung the song that I wrote and I didn’t know he recorded it but when I found out I thought why not.I would like to do some more music for film, I like the idea of doing something like Neil Young in that film ‘Dead Man’ where he just watched the film and played his guitar. I also write a lot of instrumental stuff on the piano.

C=T : What are your current recording plans for the rest of the year?

MF: When I get back to London I’m going to put together a band and record some live stuff and maybe cut an album if i find the right musicians or maybe put out a single on itunes I’m not sure. I also plan on returning back to America to do another tour in December if i can work it out.

If you aren’t familiar with Sam Bradley, he co-wrote the song “Never Think” from the Twilight soundtrack with Rob Pattinson. You can sample his music at his myspace, check out his website, and follow him on Twitter. Also, here is his new video for his song “Sea Blue”, which is included on the EP.

Model-actress Noot Seear, who will be playing vampire Heidi in New Moon, spoke with Style about acting and being a part of the Twilight phenomenon. Here are some highlights from the interview where she discusses reading the series, Rob-level of fame, and her Comic Con eye-opening experience.

Had you read the Twilight books before you went out for the part?

No, actually. And even though the first movie had come out by the time I heard about the role, I still didn’t have a clear idea what a huge production this was and what an insane cult following it has. It didn’t quite hit me until Comic-Con. I mean, people slept outside overnight just to get a glimpse of the cast, and then, you know, we go into this auditorium, and screen a clip of the movie, and the fans are just screaming, like, the loudest noise I’ve ever heard. And the screaming would die down for a minute, and then Rob [Pattinson] would brush his hair out of his eyes or something, and that’s all it would take for the screaming to start up again.

Do you look at Robert Pattinson and think, yikes, that’s going to be my life in a few months?

I’m not sure it will be the same thing. My part is relatively small, and then I’m not coming back until the fourth film, so I’d like to think I can stay under-the-radar. All that fame, I mean, I know it’s something Rob has been struggling with, because it happened so quickly to him and in such a massive way. I like being able to walk down my street without being recognized, and I don’t like people knowing my business. So what I’d prefer, rather than go for some big blockbuster after this, is to build my career up slowly, with some indies, things like that. Good scripts, good directors. I’ve managed to have a lot of longevity as a model because I never got overexposed. I’m hoping I can have the same kind of career as an actress.

Wait—so you’ve read the Twilight books by now, undoubtedly?

I read them on airplanes. I think there’s something about flying that heightens emotion, because I was literally crying the whole way through each of those books. Flying and crying. I’m sure people thought I was crazy.

Bobby long is my newest crush. He is adorable, he sings really really well, I love his style, and he sounds just like a mellow version of Ron Weasley when he talks (it is his accent). I have his myspace page saved in my bookmarks and listen to it over and over. And I follow him on Twitter.

Before appearing on the Twilight soundtrack in 2008, Paramore was already getting radio play and building a fan base. But being on the best selling soundtrack album of the year certainly didn’t hurt. In fact, singer Hayley Williams (pictured above, with Rob Pattinson) talks about the success of their song Decode from the soundtrack, which was nominated for a MTV Movie Award.

“It was out of the blue for us,” Williams says. “And then the next thing we know, ‘Decode’ from the soundtrack was charting really high on iTunes and the soundtrack went platinum. So they gave us plaques for ‘Twilight.’ Then it went double-platinum, so they had to change the plaque. We were kind of like, Really? This is awesome!’ ” The track has sold 850,000 downloads, according to SoundScan.

The idea for Paramore to appear on the soundtrack came from Williams’ own love for the vampire book series. This seems like the perfect example of how being a huge Twilight fan could really pay off!

I mentioned the other day that Kellan Lutz is featured on the cover of the July issue of Social Life with Lydia Hearst. OK Magazine has some photos from the shoot, along with a bit of an interview. See the pics and full interview here.

Don’t hate me, but I am not a huge Kellan fan. But if he keeps doing photo shoots like this one, he just might win me over!

The entire cast of Twilight and New Moon has gone from Hollywood new faces to overnight international sensations – has that been a bonding experience for all of you?

It’s amazing what Twilight has done for the cast! It has opened up so many doors for us all. It is such a blessing to be a part of the phenomenon that is Twilight. It’s a dream come true! We are all very close and stay close on set as well as off. We play board games, go out to dinner and just hang out. It’s amazing to be able to work with such a talented group of actors.

How did you prepare to play Emmett in New Moon?

I prepared a lot by delving into the back-story for my character, Emmett, that I created while shooting the first movie so I just picked up that same notebook again for New Moon and added a little more to what I thought embodied this character. I find it easy to get in the role; Emmett is the perfect match for me. I do love creating a back-story for characters; it helps you transform into the role and it makes it yours.
