“I’m anticipating ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2′ being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” Feltheimer told theLos Angeles Times. “It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value. It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration”

So does he want the franchise to continue? “The simple answer is ‘Boy I hope so,’” Feltheimer said. And could that mean a “Twilight” TV series, considering that Lionsgate — unlike Summit — already does TV work? “I would certainly hope so,” he said.

Of course, “Twilight” fans have proved pretty much beyond a doubt that they will support the franchise. But do fans want more “Twilight” if that means moving beyond what is in Stephenie Meyers’ books? Is the idea of exploring the world of “Twilight” a good one even if it might have to be done without stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner? Or is this just Hollywood execs making a naked cash grab by exploiting the devotion of “Twilight” fans?

The transaction brings together Summit’s Twilight Saga feature film franchise, which has already grossed more than $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office, and Lionsgate’s highly anticipatedHunger Games franchise, which opens on March 23, 2012.  Lionsgate will also continue to benefit from its premier television production and distribution business, its array of branded film and television properties, its suite of branded channels and its success as an innovator in creating and distributing content for digital platforms.  Both the Lionsgate and Summit labels are expected to continue and be active in the production and distribution of films, although the combined company expects to realize significant synergies through the consolidation of administrative and other costs.

With this announcement there has been talk of The Twilight Saga continuing past Breaking Dawn Part 2. Here is what Gossip Cop is reporting!

There’s a chance The Twilight Saga could continue after the fifth film opens in November.

The bombshell was reportedly dropped by Jon Feltheimer, the chief executive officer of Lionsgate Entertainment, which acquired Twilight studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million on Friday.

“I’m anticipating Breaking Dawn – Part 2 being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” said Feltheimer of the final (planned) installment in the hit vampire franchise.

According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked whether Lionsgate could envision more Twilight past next fall’s fifth film, Feltheimer left the door open.

“It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value,” he said. “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration.”

He added, “So the simple answer is, ‘Boy, I hope so.’”

It’s not clear whether a potential continuation would involve future films or a television series.

Summit Entertainment co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsbergerplan to be at their desks Tuesday morning doing business as usual, both said on Friday after it was announced that Summit will be acquired by Lionsgate.

“What we’ve made clear is we have two businesses running parallel,” Friedman toldThe Hollywood Reporter in an interview on Friday. “They are merging but they are going to continue operating [separately].”

Lionsgate announced Friday it had closed its leveraged buyout of Summit, home to the Twilight franchise, in a deal for $412.5 million in cash and stock and the assumption of Summit’s $500 million debt.

Though merger talks could take several more weeks to conclude, the minimajors have been negotiating exclusively with each other in recent days, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. But several sources cautioned that there is still no certainty that an agreement will be reached, given the complexity of the transaction under discussion.

The question of leadership has been a key point in the talks. It’s understood that if the Lionsgate-Summit deal is consummated, Summit toppers Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger would remain in top-level positions within the merged entity.

The combo of Lionsgate and Summit would unite two sizable minimajors and bring the “Twilight” franchise under the same roof as “The Hunger Games,” which Lionsgate is banking on to revitalize its film slate. The last of the “Twilight pics,” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” due to open Nov. 16, is likely to perform take in as much as $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

There’s been quite a bit of talk in the last few months of a potential merger between Summit and Lionsgate, the studio behind the much anticipated Hunger Games movie.

In a new article from Deadline, it appears they are close to a deal and it looks like Lionsgate is purchasing Summit for 700 milion dollars.

The hard-fought Lionsgate purchase of Summit Entertainment now looks about to consummate with insiders telling me it’s a $700 million deal consisting of $400M in equity plus an assumption of $300 million of debt.

Most of that debt will be in the form of a bank loan by JP Morgan to Lionsgate. Several estimates have valued Summit at between $350 million and $450 million so to those familiar with Summit’s finances who don’t think my numbers add up, here’s why: Although the gross debt on Summit’s balance sheet is $500M, part of it gets wiped out by cash, and part of the cash moves with the company. Bankers and attorneys have been hovering all week around Summit, best known for its billions-dollar success with its Twilight Saga series,  as the merger talks between two of Hollywood’s largest independent movie studios morphed into takeover talks and went down to the wire, while media have been writing that the Lionsgate-Summit deal either was imminent or blew up.

But let me explain why this deal is very bad news for Hollywood: my insiders tell me it will mean the end of Summit as a buyer. First, behind the scenes, Lionsgate toppers Jon Feltheimer and Michael Burns have no interest in continuing to let Summit make movies. But also in recent days the negotiations between the two indie studios became so rough and tumble that insiders now feel there is no possible way that Summit chiefs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman and the Lionsgate pair could ever work together far beyond the obvious transition period. “It’s gotten very rough recently. Burns and Feltheimer rolled over these guys hard. Here’s what’s being reported :

Two of Hollywood’s leading independent studios, Lionsgate and Summit, have resumed merger discussions, according to an individual with knowledge of the talks.

Summit is fresh off the success of its second-to-last “Twilight” installment, which has already taken in $488 million worldwide in two weeks. And Lionsgate is ramping up for a new blockbuster series, “The Hunger Games,” after coming off a weak quarter with three movie flops in a row.

Many in Hollywood say that a merger is long overdue. Lionsgate has only just recovered from a wearing boardroom battle with corporate raider Carl Icahn. That the company emerged intact from that bullfight was a testament to CEO Jon Feltheimer’s (pictured left) skill maneuvering on Wall Street, but it also exposed the company’s very real vulnerabilities.

And as Summit faces the twilight of its blockbuster Twilight series, the studio will face the same vagaries of movie slates as everyone else – without the benefit of a library to support its operating costs.

The studios have rekindled negotiations that have broken down in the past over price and control issues, sometimes interpreted as the lack of desire by Summit chief Rob Friedman to report to Feltheimer.

Let’s face it, Summit Entertainment continues to make films because of the insane profits from the “Twilight” franchise. The three films already released from the franchise have grossed a combined $1.8 billion worldwide from theatrical releases alone, and that doesn’t include DVD and all the film licensing the company also has a meaty stake in. The success of the series showed a massive untapped potential in teenagers and the young adult audience (that wasn’t the “Harry Potter” crowd) and studios took notice immediately. While, in the three years that have passed (the first film was released in 2008), not one studio has released a viable competitor or contender to usurp the “Twilight” throne, but it’s not for a lack of trying.

Lionsgate has the first of the “Hunger Games” films arriving in theaters on March 23, 2012—which seems like the first serious threat so far—the “Twilight” producers are already developing the young-adult sci-fi series “Legend” that Jonathan Levine (”50/50”) hopes to direct, Disney already did their best with “I Am Number Four” (a continuing franchise seems in doubt). “The Twilight Saga,” author Stephenie Meyer is already developing “The Host” with director Andrew Niccol, and chances are if the project stars Dianna Agron, Lily Collins, Liam Hemsworth or Alex Pettyfer, it might be something that’s aiming to have some “Twilight”-esque appeal.

Now Warner Bros. is getting in on the action (not that they and every other major studio doesn’t already have two or three options at hand).  Last week it was announced that WB had acquired rights to “The Scorpio Races,” a young adult fantasy novel by Maggie Stiefvater. (the bestselling author of the werewolf-ian romance, “The Wolves of Mercy Falls” trilogy; 1.6 million books printed in the U.S.). Just hitting shelves this October, “The Scorpio Races,” centers on a fantastical land where flesh-eating water horses (based on Celtic lore) emerge from the water each November. These equines menace and terrorize the local townspeople, but young island residents—both brave and foolish enough to try and ride these majestic and fearsome creatures—attempt to tame the savage beasts and thus the “scorpio races” emerge.

San Diego Film Festival (SDFF), an annual celebration of film produced by the San Diego Film Foundation, announces it’s 2011 film line-up.

The festival will be celebrating its ten year anniversary this year from Wednesday, September 28 to Sunday, October 2 and will be screening more than 75 feature, short and documentary films. This year, SDFF is turning it up a notch by adding two more Short Film sections and one more Local Love section, celebrating local San Diego filmmakers.

The Festival kicks off with the Opening Night premiere of 50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick and Anjelica Huston. Actress Anna Kendrick and director Will Reiser will be on hand to premiere the story of Adam, a 27-year-old writer of radio programs who is diagnosed with a rare form of spinal cancer and learns he has a 50/50 chance of survival.  Adam begins to discover what is most important to him when he is helped by his best friend, his mother, and a young therapist at the cancer center.  50/50 is the story of a man’s transformative, and sometimes funny, journey to health.

On Friday night, the much-anticipated film, Like Crazy, starring Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones and Jennifer Lawrence, will be premiering. The heartfelt, absorbing love story follows a British college student as she falls for an American student, only to be separated from him when she’s banned from the U.S. after overstaying her visa. Like Crazy was recently chosen as the Official Selection at Sundance Film Festival in addition to being awarded Best Picture and Best Actress.

The Feature Documentaries section is better than ever this year with notable films such as Marathon Boy, the story of a four-year-old boy plucked from the slums of India trained to become India’s greatest runner, and The Bully Project, a film from Emmy-award winning filmmaker Lee Hirsch, a SDFF alum, that examines the dire consequences of bullying through the testimony of strong and courageous youth. Also screening is One in Seven, The New Face of Hunger, a film presented by Feeding America San Diego in support for September’s Hunger Action Month. The documentary, created by a group of students from Carlsbad High, aims to educate the public on the changing faces on hunger in the community of San Diego.

Also notable is Carlos Moreno’s Todos Tus Muertos, an Official Selection of the Sundance Film festival that features a peasant who wakes up to find a pile of corpses in the middle of his crops and East Fifth Bliss, a film starring Lucy Lui, Michael C. Hall and Peter Fonda, that tells the story of a guy who watches his life comically unravel after he enters into a relationship with the daughter of a former high school classmate.

Closing out the festivities is the soon-to-be blockbuster Coriolanus, starring Gerard Butler, Jessica Chastain and Ralph Fiennes. This film adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy features Butler as a banished hero of Rome as he allies with a sworn enemy to take his revenge on the city.

“We could not ask for a better line-up on the celebration of our tenth anniversary,” said Festival Director, Robin Laatz. “We are extremely excited about the caliber of films that were presented to us and can’t wait for our attendees to see them!”

This story is very difficult to wrap your brain around due to the basic premise of magic that permeates the entire story. However, it is such a worthwhile journey. Ultimately for me the story was about having your choices taken away and still having the courage and determination to make your own life and choices despite what you are told is possible. This story is so detailed and well written that every reader will take something personal away from the story itself.

Summit Entertainment is suing the owner of Twilight.com whom they say is misleading people that come to the site, allowing them to believe they have come to an official platform for the film. From THR:

Summit Entertainment has filed all sorts of lawsuits with the goal of protecting its lucrative Twilight franchise. The latest legal target is the owner of Twilight.com, alleged to be deceiving consumers into believing the website is authorized by the studio and connected to the vampire romance films.

From the looks of Twilight.com, the site appears to be rather unimpressive. One could call it a fan site except the average 13-year-old girl with a Rob Pattinson crush could probably design something better. Nevertheless, the site seems hardly nefarious, even linking to Amazon.com so that consumers can purchase Stephenie Meyer books and The Twilight Saga DVDs and CDs instead of pirating them.

But Summit, which has previously been in court over things like Twilight toiletries and Bella jackets, sees something here that compels litigation against the dilution of its marks.

According to the complaint, the website’s owner, Tom Markson, has been using the studio’s copyrighted Twilight materials in his banner, plus linking to stuff like unauthorized Twilight contests and “fake casting calls.”

Daiana Santia claims that she only saw images while surfing the web. She claims not to have sent images to anyone, not to have logged in any where to see them, and denies having the technical knowledge on how to hack anything. She claims she did nothing more than many fans did and just viewed images on the Internet.

She and her family (her father Hector is also named in the legal papers filed in California, presumably because the bill for the Internet is in his name) claim that over the last month they were harassed by movie producers demanding to see her hard drive. She claims through her attorney that she would not turn over her computer because of the personal items that are on it and because she is innocent.

Her attorneys claim that any legal action should go through Argentine courts first and Argentine authorities should investigate. Specifically mentioned is the Technology Crimes Division based in Buenos Aires.

Via her attorney, it was stated that the Santia family is considering a counterclaim against Summit Entertainment for harassment and defamation of character

Summit Entertainment has given us the following information in response to Ms. Santia’s claims.

First and most important this is NOT about greed or the Studio wanting to bully a woman from a small town in Argentina – rather, it is about stolen material that is private and sensitive which was obtained by illegally accessing private/secure servers as well as personal email accounts.  Ms. Santia’s actions came to light after these materials began appearing on the internet towards the end of March, 2011.  Since Summit learned of Ms. Santia’s involvement in late May 2011, Summit has been in contact with Ms. Santia and her representatives with no resolution or further good faith efforts on their part, thus the only alternative left was to pursue legal action to ascertain that Ms. Santia no longer holds the images and video in any shape or form.  Prior to said action the studio clearly communicated to Ms. Santia and her representatives that a press release would be distributed naming the actions being taken as well as naming her specifically.

Summit’s first meeting with the Santia family occurred on May 31, 2011 at which point the studio was told they would fully cooperate.   A subsequent meeting took place on June 8, 2011 with Ms. Santia and her lawyer at which time Ms. Santia confessed to the intrusions.  It is also important to note that Ms.Santia is 24 years of age.  The family was contacted as a group as the IP address used was registered under a family name.

Specifically on June 8, 2011 Ms. Santia confessed in the presence of her attorney that she accessed servers and email accounts via a systematic attack — stealing photographs, unfinished images and video footage over several months.  Additionally there is indisputable evidence linking her directly to IP addresses that were used in the unauthorized access. Her actions appear to be premeditated and not done on a whim, but rather using technology and tactics that require thought as well as time and skill.  Because Ms. Santia decided that she does not want to cooperate, Summit has been unable to settle this matter privately with Ms. Santia and her representatives in Argentina.

Ms. Santia claims to have deleted the stolen materials off her lap top as well as her family’s desktop computer, however both common sense and historically similar cases have proven that a defendant’s word cannot be taken as final.  Additionally, Summit must confirm the extent to which Ms. Santia shared the materials with others.

When first approached by Summit, Ms. Santia’s representatives indicated their willingness to permit Summit to review the computers.  Based on this communication, Summit flew technical experts to Posadas, only to have Ms. Santia renege on their offer after the arrival of these experts.  To this day, Ms. Santia has refused to cooperate in giving Summit access to these two computers to verify for itself that the images and footage have in fact been deleted, and to confirm the extent to which files were shared.  We do not feel this is an unreasonable request but rather a prudent move to protect the IP and the studio.  Additionally the studio has made an offer to have representatives chosen by Ms. Santia present when the computers are searched in order to protect the Ms. Santia’s privacy relating to anything else that is not related to this particular situation as they are of no interest to the studio.

Had Ms. Santia cooperated Summit and its representatives would have worked with her to reach a compromise that would not necessarily involve legal action in Argentina and the United States.

A round of illegally leaked photos from Breaking Dawn appeared on the internet several months ago. Summit Entertainment has identified the hacker who is from Argentina and legal action has been taken in both the U.S. and Argentina. From Gossip Cop:

In an action that further communicates that those who steal images, video and other intellectual property will be identified and prosecuted globally, Summit Entertainment communicated today that it has identified the principal hacker who earlier this year stole unreleased materials from THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN which were then distributed on the internet.”

“Civil actions in the United States and Argentina nameDaiana Santia, along with others, as being involved in stealing photographs, unfinished images and video from both parts of the yet to be released THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN which first appeared on the internet of March 31 of this year. Criminal action in Argentina has also been filed.”

Matt Reeve, director of Let Me In, has reportedly signed on to direct the Frankenstein retelling This Dark Endeavor, which will be release by Summit Entertainment. Reeve is also set to direct the adaptation of vampire novel The Passage.  From The Playlist:

The project has franchise potential which is likely why Summit is pushing it forward, as the book is the first in a series. But like the Snow White movies, there is plenty of competition out there, and Deadline ran down yesterday. But this actually looks to be original take, not simply a refashioning for contemporary audiences, but the question is when this will get made. Reeves already has two other films in the oven and we suppose Summit will be looking at book sales first before moving ahead in earnest. But clearly, they want strong talent behind the picture.

While a bunch of the films starring various Twilight cast members are being shopped at Cannes, it looks like Summit is doing some shopping of its own. They have picked up the distribution rights to the film Snitch starring Dwayne Johnson aka “The Rock.” From Deadline:

Summit Entertainment has secured U.S. rights to Snitch, a drama based on a true story that stars Dwayne Johnson and is directed by Ric Roman Waugh. The script, by Justin Haythe and Waugh, is inspired by the Frontlinedocumentary Snitch, which follows a suburban dad (Johnson) whose teen son is sentenced to 10 years under mandatory minimum drug laws. To reduce the sentence, the father goes undercover to catch a senior drug dealer.

The project was first announced last fall and finds Gavid Hood (”Tsotsi,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) tackling the classic novel penned by Orson Scott Card. The story is set in the future, when Earth is at war with an insectoid race named the Formics, and follows Ender, one of a group of children being trained to be military commanders. Wolfgang Petersen was previously developing a D.B. Weiss/David Benioff-penned adaptation of the novel, but that fell by the wayside. But Hood is knee deep in development of the project, which set up at Odd Lot Entertainment, and he is rewriting a script by Card himself. Not only that, he’s got the powerhouse producing duo of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman behind him and now, the project finally has a studio home.

Deadline reveals that Summit has acquired the rights to the movie and are planning to turn into a youth-oriented franchise and no surprise given the mammoth success of the “Twilight” serires. Next month, foreign buyers will get a chance to take look at the project as Hood will give a visual presentation of what he has in store at the Cannes Film Festival. Things are moving along and plans are get this one rolling by early 2012.

As you know, a few weeks ago, several images from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn were leaked to the internet, causing the filmmakers to reach out to Twilight fans with a request not to look at or distribute the images for the sake of maintaining the element of surprise.

Later, Robert Pattinson expressed his dismay over the matter, saying “Twilight fans, punish them. Police your own.”

Now, it seems, film studio Summit Entertainment is taking action on the matter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has “filed a lawsuit against ten John Does . . . so that Summit could serve subpoenas and identify anonymous individuals who were distributing photos on Twitter.”

Amazing new Twilight Saga: Eclipse price pack for the Annual Mother’s day Auction!

Twilight film studio Summit Entertainment has donated a The Twilight Saga: Eclipse prize pack to the Annual Mother’s Day Auction at CharityBuzz.

Items included in the package are: a framed Eclipse one-sheet poster signed by Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, an Eclipse DVD, a copy of Stephenie Meyer‘s Eclipse, the official motion picture soundtrack for the film, and more Eclipse-related goodies.

The charity which will benefit from the auction of this particular item is Habitat for Humanity, Los Angeles.

The auction runs until May 3rd.

This is the latest of a few charity actions the studio has taken over the past few months. EXCLUSIVE: Summit Entertainment has acquired domestic distribution rights to I, Alex Cross, the reboot of the James Patterson franchise. Tyler Perry stars as the title character, with Rob Cohen directing. Lost‘s Matthew Fox was just set to play Michael Sullivan, a psycho serial killer who viciously murders Cross’s wife when the detective thwarts his earlier attempt to commit a murder.  The drama becomes a mano a mano battle between cop and the killer who is one of the most memorable villains in Patterson’s novels. Ed Burns will play Cross’s partner Tommy Kane.

Production will begin on August 8, and the film is expected to be ready for release in fall, 2012 or early 2013. Kerry Williamson wrote the script and Marc Moss rewrote it. QED partners Bill Block and Paul Hanson will produce along with Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen, who spearhead Patterson’s film endeavors. WME put together the package.

Taking a page from its “Twilight” success, Summit Entertainment is putting its future in the hands of book adaptations. A few years ago, Summit convinced Stephenie Meyer to sell her “Twilight Saga,” and $750 million later, we think they might be on to something. As they close the final chapter on the popular franchise, Summit is sucking up book rights like a hungry vampire.

Their latest deal? Veronica Roth‘s young adult debut, “Divergent,” Deadline reports. The novel, which will be published by the HarperCollins imprint Katherine Tegen Books, follows 16-year-old Beatrice Prior in dystopian Chicago. Although the book doesn’t hit shelves until May 3, it’s already receiving early praise, perhaps influencing Summit to so quickly jump on the rights.

“‘Divergent’ is a captivating, fascinating book that kept me in constant suspense and was never short on surprises. It will be a long time before I quit thinking about this haunting vision of the future,” said “The Maze Runner” author James Dashner.

It’s hard to believe that The Twilight Saga films are “indie” films, but they are! And Eclipse was the top grossing independent film of the last year! From TheWrap:

“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” was the top grossing independent film in 2010, according to the Independent Film & Television AllianceThe vampire romance with $562.8 million globally, according to IFTA.

A spokesperson for “Twilight” studio Summit, however, disputes that statistic and says that “Eclipse” grossed $698.3 million.

The film 50/50, which stars Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been given a release date (U.S.) of September 30, 2011. The film is being released by Twilight distributor Summit Entertainment. The film was previously titled I’m With Cancer and Live With It.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has signed on to write the screenplay for Highlander, an upcoming Summit project.

After tackling vampires in Summit’s Twlight Saga, writer Melissa Rosenberg is tackling a different kind of immortal being: Scottish highlanders.

The scribe is in negotiations to come on board to work on the studio’s remake of Highlander. Neal Moritz is producing the project, which offers an update on the 1986 movie starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. Justin Lin (Fast Five) is attached to direct. Peter Davis is also producing.

The original story centered on a Scottish swordsman, who discovers he is part of a secret race of near-immortal beings and faces off against an unstoppable barbarian who covets the power gained from there being only one of their kind left.

Summit Entertainment found a lot of luck when they purchased the rights to adapt Twilight onto the screen. So it seems they are hoping for similar luck now that they have picked up the rights to the young adult novel This Dark Endeavor, a Frankenstein story. From MTV:

Enter Summit Entertainment’s purchase of the upcoming young adult novel “This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein.” And if you thought that Sony’s version of “Frankenstein” would be going after the “Twilight” crowd, wait until you hear how hard Summit is trying. Following the trend of purchasing YA novels that seem like they’ll be popular before they’re actually released, Deadline is reporting that “Twilight” producer Karen Rosenfelt is backing the adaptation of the Kenneth Oppel novel.

And guess what: it even has a love triangle!

Deadline says the story will follow the young Victor Frankenstein who is trying to save his twin brother Konrad after he falls gravely ill. Victor turns to a “mysterious old alchemist” who says that the only way he can save Konrad is if he goes on a dangerous quest for the three rare ingredients needed to create the Elixir of Live, a serum that will grant the drinker perpetual health. Enlisting the help of his best friend Elizabeth, Victor goes off on his journey that is fraught with betrayals and, of course, a love triangle between himself, Elizabeth and Konrad.

Apparently the book is filled with callbacks to Mary Shelley’s original “Frankenstein” novel and “This Dark Endeavor” sets up the storyline for that book. But it probably doesn’t have as many references to “Frankenstein” as a third project being brought around Hollywood by Universal, who plans to remake the film with Guillermo del Toro.

It is being reported (though not confirmed) that producers for Breaking Dawn have been in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, scoping out the area for potential filming.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn “producers” are in Rio, according to RioFilme’s director/president Sérgio Sá Leitão. Answering a query from a fellow twitterer about whether the Breaking Dawn producers had given up on Rio, Leitão tweeted that “they’re in Rio. I can’t give out any details. The decision will be made soon.” In a follow-up tweet, he added: “Breaking Dawn in Rio = Investments of US$1.5m in the city + creation of many jobs + great publicity for Rio + 1 gift to the fans.”

The three official Breaking Dawn producers are Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt, and Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer. Whether any of those are in Rio, or if Leitão was referring to Summit Entertainment executives is unclear.

Thanks to Summit for clearing up a few rumors that have been floating around the internet lately, mainly about Breaking Dawn, but also about the Eclipse DVD release date. I’m sure you have seen some or all of them, so we wanted to tell you straight from the horse’s mouth.

1) Many of you have sent me casting notices for Breaking Dawn. Any and all casting notices have been false thus far. There is only ONE casting director on the Breaking Dawn films, Deborah Zane. No local auditions are being held at this time. Please don’t fall for scams, guys! They are all over the place, and completely unrelated to the films.

2) If you have heard that Renesmee’s name will be changed for the film version of Breaking Dawn, rest assured this is NOT the case. (Thanks to Twilight Lexicon for doing the recon on that one.)

3) Xavier Samuel (Riley) was listed in the cast list for Breaking Dawn, Part 1 on IMDb.com.  This is also false.  Xavier and/or Riley will not appear in Breaking Dawn.  Keep in mind that IMDb is a member-updated site, meaning a lot of false information can get on there and everyone takes it as official. It’s not! (Thanks to Twilight Examiner for her investigative skills on this one!)

4) The U.S. release date for the Eclipse DVD has not yet been confirmed, so any rumors you have seen about the release date are without merit. International release dates with international distributors may well be accurate, but the US dates are still speculation at this point. When Summit confirms the date to us, we’ll tell you ASAP!

Summit announced today that Breaking Dawn Part 2 will arrive in theaters on 11/16/12.

Yes, that is a year from the release date of Breaking Dawn Part 1 on 11/18/11.  How ever will we wait that long??!!

Summit distribution chief Richie Fay told MTV News that no such decision has been made and that the studio is still exploring multiple release dates, not just ones in the summer.”We’ve targeted a number of dates, and we have yet to determine when it will happen,” Fay said. “We haven’t even determined that it will be the summer. It’s still the source of discussions.”

Of course, studios always explore various release dates for pictures, especially established blockbusters, and the fact that Summit hasn’t committed the second “Breaking Dawn” to the summer season shouldn’t be mistaken for confusion or indecision within studio headquarters.

But the 2012 summer movie calendar is rapidly filling up, not necessarily with films that widely share an audience with “Breaking Dawn,” but with established franchises or properties in their own right. That May will offer “The Avengers,” “Madagascar 3″ and “Men in Black 3,” while June delivers a “Star Trek” sequel. The rebooted “Spider-Man” has already nabbed the July 4th slot (occupied this year by “Eclipse”), followed closely by another “Ice Age” and a third “Batman.”

Surely there’s room here for “Breaking Dawn,” but Summit now has experience releasing “Twilight” movies both in the summer and the fall. And, as Fay says, the studio might not be ready to pick a season for “Breaking Dawn” until “Eclipse” finishes up its theatrical run.

“We might have a preference when we see where ‘Eclipse’ ends up,” he said of choosing one season over another. “It certainly might color our thinking, but we’re comfortable with either place. Right now, it’s a bit early in that stage of planning.”

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be released as two separate movies, Breaking Dawn Part I has a release date of November 18, 2011, and a summer 2012 release for Breaking Dawn Part II is being targeted. Director Bill Condon will shoot the two films back to back.

Breaking Dawn II will be released in 3-D, however no decision has been announced about Part I. A 3-D film can be created in two ways. One is to process the film in post-production editing using CGI for 3-D effects. The other method is to shoot the film with special 3-D cameras, such as the film Avatar was done using Sony HDC-F950 3-D cameras. It is not known which method Condon will use, but it is highly likely he will shoot using the special 3-D cameras since the effects are far superior.

Filming begins November 2010, and it now appears likely that shooting will take place in the state of Louisiana. There is a very large amount of filming that takes place in Louisiana due to the large tax credits that the state offers the studios. Louisiana offers a 30% transferable incentive for total in-state expenditures related to the production of a motion picture. The budget on both parts of Breaking Dawn will be substantially greater than the previous installments in the series, therefore Summit Entertainment would benefit greatly by filming in Louisiana, and low key negotiations with the state film commission are taking place.

LUNAR ECLIPSE WITH “TWILIGHT NIGHT” ON JUNE 26^th

Los Angeles, CA  June 18, 2010 – In celebration of the lunar eclipse on the evening of June 26^th, Summit Entertainment is inviting everyone across the nation to “TWILIGHT Night,” a 12-city event including outdoor screenings of TWILIGHT and THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON.  The family and community-oriented events are the perfect chance for those new to the film franchise as well as moviegoers in general to immerse themselves in THE TWILIGHT SAGA phenomenon just in time for the highly anticipated theatrical release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third installment of Summit Entertainment’s TWILIGHT SAGA film franchise, on June 30^th.

The excitement of THE TWILIGHT SAGA will be delivered directly to fans in their hometowns and online with “TWILIGHT Night” special events. Moviefone will live-stream events from Philadelphia and San Diego at www.moviefone.com/twilightnight which will include interviews with cast, fan reactions, special guests and sneak peeks of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, allowing those unable to attend to still take part in the celebration. In addition, each event will include special cast member appearances as well as engaging activities to be enjoyed prior to the outdoor evening film screenings, including a red carpet and photo booth, both provided by Moviefone.

TO BE RELEASED AS TWO SEPARATE FILMS

First Film to Arrive in Theatres November 18, 2011

Los Angeles, CA, June 10, 2010 – Summit Entertainment confirmed today that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN will be released as two separate films with the first of the two slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011.  Academy Award® winner Bill Condon will direct both films starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner along with Billy Burke as Charlie Swan as well as returning members of the Cullen Family including Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme, Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, Nikki Reed as Rosalie, Ashley Greene as Alice and Kellan Lutz as Emmett.

The project, based on the fourth novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, is currently being written by Melissa Rosenberg with Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Stephenie Meyer producing.  The TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN will start production in the Fall.

The third film in the franchise, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is due in theaters on June 30, 2010.

Turns out Summit is more worried about someone else from the Twilight franchise.

One person in the cast is being a “huge pain in the ass,” according to our source. The celeb who shall not be named—guess we’re in a good mood—is loathed over at the studio with their diva behavior as of late.

Hmmm I’m already guessing in my head.  I blame Kristen’s bird flipping on jet lag.  You fly an over 14 hour flight to Australia and see how you feel about stalking paparazzi.
