Michael Welch will star as Hansel in a modern and quirky take on the classic Grimm fairy tale Hansel & Gretel. The film is called Black Forest: Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch. From Variety:

Duane Journey will direct from David Tillman’s script, which concerns a witch living in Pasadena who lures teens into her house with a special blend of marijuana so she can eat them in order to maintain her youth.

“Twilight” thesp Michael Welch and “Castle” star Molly Quinn will play the endangered siblings, while Lara Flynn Boyle (“Men in Black II”) will play the sinister witch.

Production is skedded to start Nov. 12 in Los Angeles.

“420 Witch is not your average fairytale adaptation. It’s a reinvention of the story with a dark edge that I think audiences will love,” said Hudson.

Here is the trailer for the 2009 film Archie’s Final Project which stars Michael Welch in a small role. The film was formerly called My Suicide and we had a chance to speak with Michael about it a while back and here is what he said:

I wanted to ask about My Suicide but I don’t think a lot of people will know what it is about.

I’m very excited about. It’s a really spectacular film and I am very excited to be a part of it. We shot it in January of 2006 and it took about 3 years just to edit it the way they wanted to because it’s essentially a movie from the perspective of a high school filmmaker, so it had to look and feel like he made and edited and shot the film. So there’s a lot of really interesting choices that they made that just took a long time to execute. And it’s actually the set where I met my girlfriend who I am still with five years later, so that’s cool. I’m really glad that My Suicide has a theatrical release because I think it’s a movie that should be seen.

Tell us about your character in the film, Earl.

Earl, like Mike, represents a specific element of the high school experience. Totally different from Mike, but Earl is the guy who is just kind of a crazy party guy, super confident, he’s like the king of his own domain. He throws the house parties, he’s got all these tidbits of wisdom, he thinks he knows everything, but always about either booze or girls. But can tell you anything about those two subjects. He’s one of those guys that is kind of a dominant in a dominant-submissive  relationship.

We reported a while back that Michael Welch (Mike Newton) has landed the role of Aiden in the film Of Light and Darkness, based on the first book of The Vampire’s Daughter series by Shayne Leighton.  Another important character in the story, Sarah, the witch friend of Charlotte, has been cast! Sarah will be played by Cassie Scerbo of the ABC Family TV show Make It or Break It. This won’t be Cassie’s only Twilight connection. Cassie appears in the TV movie Teen Spirit, and her mother is played by Andrea Powell, who we’ll see as Sasha (the creator of the Denali coven) in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. I think the game of Six Degrees of Twilight is getting easier and easier!

It’s no secret that Twi-hards everywhere are anxiously awaiting the much talked-about Breaking Dawn sex scene.

However, there’s at least one person out there who is not excited about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart onscreen steaminess.

“I have not seen [it],” Michael Welch told us of Robsten’s Breaking Dawn bed scene at the Second Annual Thirst Project Gala in Beverly Hills. “And I’ll be honest, I can’t say I’m looking forward to it, because these are good friends of mine and I don’t really want to see that.”

Meanwhile, something Welch is looking forward to is Stewart in her upcoming fairy-tale flick Snow White and the Huntsman.

“She’s going to make a wonderful Snow White,” he said. “She’s gonna do it in her Kristen-y way that only she can. But I’m really looking forward to it because I’m a big fan of her work.”

Prologue:
“I expected to find some malignant little monster waiting for me just on the other side. My hands hardened into claws. My cat’s eyes shifted around in the dark. I was ready to attack, to feed if I had to.

But I found nothing like what I expected. I returned back from beast the moment I saw her, a tiny body wriggling in a pile of rags that did nothing to keep her warm. A mortal infant. Curious, I knelt over her and saw tear droplets quivering on her downy cheeks. Little auburn wisps from the top of her head shuddered in the breeze.

The child stared at me with large, glassy eyes. I looked around to see if there was anyone to claim her, perhaps from some horrible mistake they made by leaving her there. Alas, the street now was empty, and no one seemed to have remembered the lonely little being. I sighed and my gums began to throb with a familiar pain. I gazed down at her and could feel my pupils spread, engulfing my entire eye in black. She smelled so pure. Clean and completely uncontaminated, like breathing fresh air. Her blood would taste sweet, but I feverishly shook those demons from my mind.

I slid my long, cold hands underneath her and lifted her out of the crude nest of covers. The child cooed at me and looked wondrously at the world around us. Little noises continued to slip from her mouth. I watched her, rather surprised at myself. It was impossible—out of everything which existed in my horrible world of nightmarish things, this impossibly tiny human was the first thing in a hundred years that scared me. Me, the monster. I chuckled, despite my fear.

She peered up at my grave-marker face and continued to make slight, curious noises at me, naïve to our deadly differences. This innocent little mortal was so weak, vulnerable, and terrifying.

“I am not going to kill you,” I convinced myself. Glancing around the square, a sign indicating the Charles Bridge caught my eye. “Charlotte.” The name fit her so well. My decision had been made. Walking at a steady, human pace, all the while transfixed by her, I carried her away from the bushes, not taking my eyes off her for a second. I—we —made our way back home, into the deep woods of Bohemia.

I was to be alone no more.”
