More than anything, Chaske Spencer just wants to keep it real.

This may seem strange coming from the man who just wrapped up a multi-film stint in the massively successful fantasy-laden Twilight series, but a brief conversation with him makes this all too clear.

Take, for example, his perspective on his Twilight character, werewolf pack leader Sam Uley. While he appreciates many things about his animalistic alter-ego, not the least of which are his CGI antics played out on the big screen – “I never thought I would see myself jump off a cliff. I mean it was amazing!” he says – what he most hopes fans will take away from the most recent installments is that which makes the character most relatable – most human.

“What I got from talking to the kids, the fans of Twilight, is that a lot of them just hated Sam. A lot of them did not like Sam,” he recalls with a laugh. “So what I want to do is make him more human, more a character that you can relate to. In the Breaking Dawn film you get this sense that, in the script, he’s out to just kill Renesmee and he hates Bella, but that’s not the case. It’s just that it’s a job that he has to do.”

Similarly, Spencer notes, it’s the human element of filmmaking that has been the most rewarding through his work on the Twilight series and beyond. His bonds with cast and crew from the Twilight films have stayed strong, he assures: his fellow wolves are “like my brothers now,” he says, “and then you have Julia [Jones] and Tinsel [Korey, both costars] who are like my sisters.” It’s like “joining the circus,” he explains. “That’s basically what a film crew is. You join the circus, you all get tight, you’re like a family for a month or two, and then – boom. Maybe you’ll stay in touch, maybe you’ll see them again, maybe you won’t, you know?”

He emphasizes that this is one aspect of filmmaking that continues to draw him in – “Not just working on a character or just being an actor but the stuff behind the scenes.” It’s an affinity for the world behind the camera, bolstered by his recent experience in independent films Winter in the Blood and Desert Cathedral, that has clearly shaped his philosophy on his work and his art. An independent film, he says, is “where the artist comes into work”.

To hear him explain it, it’s answering a call to artistic integrity. He easily ticks off the names of examples and influences, a list that crosses genres and all levels of celebrity. “I grew up watching Johnny Depp,” he recalls, “and like a lot of young actors, I wanted to be Johnny Depp – and we can’t. But he inspires us to stick to artistic credit.” Depp, he notes, had a penchant for turning down big-budget roles in favor of independents, “and he got massive street cred for it.”

It’s that time Twihards! The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1 has hit theaters after waiting so patiently since the previous Eclipse film. It’s a time for Edward and Bella wedding bells and when Taylor gets feistier than usual to persuade Bella to not change her whole life. Breaking Dawn is here and most of you are grabbing extra coffee throughout the day because of lining up for its midnight showing earlier this morning.

Ology has their Team Jacob and Team Edwards, but luckily for us, we got to chat with the leader of the wolf pack for all the filming details. Actor Chaske Spencer plays Sam Uley in the series and let us in on his audition process, what the cast did on their Vancouver downtime and on some of his favorite moments on set. He even talks a little Rob and Kristen and if he had to choose—his favorite Cullen! Check it out.

OLOGY: Hey Chaske! How are you?

CHASKE SPENCER: Great, thanks.

Breaking Dawn: Part 1 is finally here! How does it feel knowing you started off playing Dracula in a play back in New York and then you ended up in a vampire series?

Awesome! [Laughs] I don’t really think about it too much. I guess it was just supposed to be that way, I don’t know. It was off Broadway but I’m pretty happy the way things turned out.

You started off in New Moon. When did you know it was such a phenomenon?

Seeing pictures of it in USA Today and seeing the press release was knowing it was going to be a big deal. I didn’t know much about Twilight before that. I had seen the posters around New York but it’s not really my demographic. [Laughs] I didn’t rush out to see it but I was on a plane ride over from New York to Vancouver and luckily they were playing it…I didn’t start in Twilight so I kind of just got on this train that was already out of control and tried to hold on tight.[Laughs]

What drew you to the character Sam? How was the audition process?

It was really weird because I never auditioned for something like this before. First off, there was no script. It was just the book. They gave us excerpts of the book. I auditioned for Paul and Jared. Pretty much those characters and then I didn’t hear back for a bit. Then I heard they wanted me for Sam. I was really surprised because I didn’t know who Sam was, but I talked to some people who were really into the book and they told me it was a really good character…I just started doing research on leaders, mainly military. I’m nothing like Sam. [Laughs]

What about a favorite storyline from the series?

Probably Leah Clearwater. I liked her arc and her story from Eclipse.  I like what Stephenie [Meyers] did there.

Did you read the books beforehand or did you just jump right in?

No, I had not read the books before filming. After I got the part I did read the books. I didn’t read Breaking Dawn though until a few weeks before filming started.

Which was your favorite?

My favorite would probably be Eclipse. I really liked Eclipse. I liked the back story of the wolf pack and how the vampires came to be. I really enjoyed reading that and informing me on a lot of stuff. I really liked Eclipse.

Do you and the rest of the wolf pack hang and work out together?

They hired us a trainer and we ended up working out in New Moon and Eclipse but in between that I used my own trainer…he helped me keep in shape. I think Taylor had been working out a year before that so he already had his own thing going on but the rest of us—they threw us in like a wolf camp. I had a good time. We all got more muscle than we had before. [Laughs] I really had a good time doing the workouts.

Word is you’re of course Team Jacob! Who would be your favorite vampire?

Probably I’d say Carlisle. I like his character the best.

Was there still some rivalry between the wolf and vampire cast members though? [Laughs]

Oh, yeah! There was definitely some banter going on back and forth. A lot of it was Jackson Rathbone[Jasper] and Alex Meraz [Paul]. They would sometimes throw a comment back and forth to one another but it was all in good fun.

o who are you closest to on set?

Probably Julia Jones [Leah] or Alex Meraz. Mainly the wolf guys; we worked out together. Tinsel Korey [Emily] and all of them too because we just filmed a lot of scenes together. Oh my God, I’m looking at birthday cards right now. It says, ‘Wish you a Happy Birthday, with more fun than humanly possible,’ and it has Rob [Pattinson], Kristen [Stewart] and Taylor on here.

That’s hilarious! They are all over the place.

Yeah! [Laughs] I’m in Walmart right now.

[Laughs] Taylor’s definitely broken out because of the films. Was there any talk about that while filming?

Taylor’s got a pretty focused head on his shoulders. He’s a really god guy. We chat from time to time but it’s never about that. It’s just mainly when we’re working on a scene or something. We don’t take each other too seriously. He’s just a normal kid, a normal young man in a very interesting situation.

On Sam’s role in Breaking Dawn.
“He has to do a duty to protect the treaty of the tribe, so he goes against Jacob and the wolf pack splits. He has to make some decisions as the alpha male. The stakes are higher in Breaking Dawn. The fans who read the book know what I mean!”

Werewolves vs. vampires.
“I don’t know if werewolves are more interesting. They have their own set of qualities. I like that they’re both supernatural characters. They had no choice becoming a werewolf, so it’s a little different.”

On his favorite film of the franchise.
“Probably New Moon because it was very fresh and I got to know the guys.”

On those shirtless scenes.
“It’s very cold! It definitely was a bonding experience with the guys who play the other werewolves. But it was all in good fun. It’s not a bad day at work when you just have to take your shirt off for a big franchise movie. There are worse jobs out there!”

We recently had a chance to ask Chaske Spencer a few questions about his current projects, including Breaking Dawn! See what he has to say about the changes that happen to the wolf pack in Breaking Dawn, saying good bye to the jean shorts and more. He also talks about his film Winter in the Blood, and the latest on his charitable involvement with Be the Shift.

Team Twilight: A lot of changes happen in the tribe in “Breaking Dawn”. Jacob steps up as Alpha but Sam is still Alpha, too, so you have to separate. How do you think Sam handles those changes?

Chaske Spencer: He handles them as he sees fit, it’s a hard transition for Sam.

TT: Have you had the chance to seen Breaking Dawn Part 1?

CS: No but I am very excited!!!

TT:  Did you and the other wolf-pack members commemorate the ending of filming by doing anything special with your cutoff jean shorts?

CS: No, the studio kept them, maybe someday they will memorialized (laughs).

TT: I know you have rallied the fans to get behind “Winter in the Blood” and show their support to get it made. What is it about this particular project that inspires you? Can you tell us anything about the general story?

CS: It’s a departure from the roles that I usually play, it’s a project that I feel very passionately about. It’s about a young man Virgil and the story follows his tribulations into adulthood. It’s a very deep piece and I am proud to be a part of it.

TT:  You worked again with Gil Birmingham on “Shouting Secrets” and Julia Jones will be in “Winter in the Blood” with you.  Is it difficult to leave previous roles behind and develop a new rapport with the same actors? Does it help starting new projects since you already have a history of a working relationship?

CS: It helps a lot to work with actors that you know and trust. There is a lot of freedom to collaborate and I find you get great results from knowing each other so well.

TT:  Whose career would you hope to emulate?

CS: James Cagney.

TT:  Taylor Lautner has focused on action roles following Twilight such as Abduction. Did you check out that film? Are action roles something you would consider in the future?

CS: No, I haven’t seen it yet. If the script is right, absolutely

TT: Do you have any interest in getting behind the camera? You started out in the New York theater scene. Is that something that you’d like to get back to?

CS:Of course, I would love to do some more theatre. I would love to direct someday.

TT:  Can you give us an update with what’s going on with Be The Shift right now? Have you been able to see change happening as a result of the organization and your involvement?

CS: Yes, look at the occupy wall street movement, it’s an example of Be The Shift in action.

AC: What did you do before acting?
CS: Waiting tables and tending bar.

AC: Did you read the Twilight books?
CS: No, until I heard about the movies, but I read the books as research for the character.

AC: What is your favorite character in the Twilight series?
CS: My favorite character is Charlie, Bella’s father is because he is obviously oblivious to everything that happens.

AC: How do you “make love”?
CS: Through “Be the Shift key, ‘my benefit and’ UNITED GLOBAL SHIFT. ‘ Besides, I attended other charity events, when I have opportunity.

AC: Who is your idol?
CS: Billy Idol (laughs).

AC: What was the last book you read?
CS: I’m reading “Blackwater,” the source of the most powerful mercenary army by JeremyScahill.

AC: If you could live forever in a place where would it be?
CS: A ranch in Montana.

Just to clear things up, the Huffington Post apparently does not know how to spell Chaske Spencer’s name correctly. In the article Chaske talks about  gaining muscle for Breaking Dawn and the headboard scene.

“Twilight” star Cheske Spencer knows a thing or two about taking it all off for the role of a lifetime. I caught up with the werewolf hunk to talk about stripping down and the much anticipated sex scene between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.

“He breaks the headboard or something,” Spencer reveals about the racy scene that he tells me was shot on a super closed, private set. “In fact, so few people had access to the filming that everyone in the cast, with the exception of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, saw the scene only when a short clip of it ran in the upcoming movie trailer.”

And while it might seem like fun running around with the pale and beautiful few, Spencer admits that a lot of hard work goes into looking that good.

“As soon as we got the job, we had to take our shirts off. And they were like, ‘Alright, we gotta get trainers for these guys.’ In a matter of three weeks, I put on almost 15 to 20 pounds of muscle,”

Los Angeles Times recently visited the set of Chaske Spencer’s new film, ‘Winter in the Blood.’ We all know Chaske as Sam Uley in the Twilight Saga movies.

The story of a nameless young Native American man who struggles with his heritage and his life, who feels “as distant from myself as a hawk from the moon,” “Winter” is a book where not a lot happens but everything is revealed. As costar Farmer explains, raising his outstretched arm ever so slightly, “the character’s arc goes like this, nothing really changes. It’s the audience who grows. I’ve known this author my whole life, and that’s what I love about his writing.”

So here’s Spencer, hip deep in the here and now fishing in the middle of the Milk River, cinematographer Paula Huidobro right behind him. But a glance across the river lets Virgil see his childhood, lets him watch as two young actors play him and his brother Mose as scrapping kids, before the arrival of Lame Bull, his mother’s beau (played by Farmer), brings him back to the present.

Spencer, raised on reservations in Montana and Idaho, is pleased to be able to use his “Twilight” fame to “help projects like this get going.” Though his management was not initially enthusiastic, he says, “I put my foot down, I stuck with this project, I fought tooth and nail.”

“I’m not getting paid that much; the experience of doing this is the reward,” Spencer adds. “There are no special effects, no big-time soundtrack, but it’s so layered, there are so many rich emotions. A role like this challenges me. It’s why you hustle those tables, why you bartend, why I became an actor. There’s no other reason to be in the Milk River up to your chest in sludge.”

“For years as an actor, they never let us do the writing,” he says. “We had to work twice as hard to socialize the writer to Native American realities. This for me as a career actor is the culmination of that. To witness this after a 38-year career is just magic.”

IndieWire has a great new feature on Winter in the Blood, a film that stars Chaske Spencer and Julia Jones.

“Winter in the Blood” tells the story of a man, Virgil First Raise who comes home from a bender and realizes his wife has left him. He heads on a journey across the small towns of Montana trying to find her—always just missing her, but his trip leads him to reflect on his own life and his priorities in it.

Virgil is in nearly ever single scene of the film, except for some flashbacks. “Our casting agent Rene Haynes said (of Spencer), ‘This is really the guy,’” said Alex. “He lives in New York, but he’s from Montana and Idaho. He understood this character and he told us he has been waiting for a role like this for a long time.”

Andrew added, “He’s an actor from our first feature and we became friends after that. We have similar backgrounds in certain ways; he grew up in Northern Idaho. He’s become kind of like a brother to us.”

This is Chaske Spencer. He plays the role of Sam, the deep-voiced leader of Twilight’s wolf pack. He’s tall, chiseled and has dark looks.

Oh, and yes, we did say Twilight — The Twilight Saga, aka: Stephanie Meyers’ book series-turned-movie series, with a cult following of screaming and stalking – not fans, but superfans. Many would argue that there are two kinds of celebrities today: regular celebs, and the celebs we are seriously obsessed with in Twilight.

Spencer is one of them. But at the end of the day, the alpha wolf ’s real-life lair is not in the Hollywood hills, or a swanky Manhattan apartment, but up the creaky steps of a classic Brooklyn (and charmingly grungy) Williamsburg walk-up.

Although there’s an action figure modeled after him sitting on a toy store shelf down the block, Spencer is shockingly humble and down-to-earth.

“This is the first time I’m living on my own,” Spencer says, walking past a few dozen stacks of classic rock CDs on a hallway table of his apartment. “No roommates, no dishes…”

He is a warm host, showing and telling of the many artifacts to be excavated in various corners around the house —- a large pile of sunglasses on one table, various books on another.

“Free clothes are awesome. Free sunglasses… are awesome,” he explains, after being asked of the perks associated with being a Twilight celebrity.

While most people have notes and magnets stuck on to their refrigerator door, Spencer has a family-stylephoto of he and his fellow cast members (also idolized by Twilight-obsessed fans) on his.

He catches us admiring the picture.

“I don’t hang out with celebrities, but I’m friends with everyone in the wolf pack,” Spencer says, peering at thepicture fondly.

“It was very gratifying to be there and talk to young people on topics as relevant to Indian Country. Obesity, diabetes and heart disease serious concerns on reservations across the United States because many communities are very isolated and health food options are not available to indigenous peoples. Growing up on a reservation, I ate a lot and continued to eat this way even in my adult life. In fact, I had no real extent of the diet, until I was in the cast of Twilight, New Moon, that’s where I learned about diet, exercise and how it all comes together to make me a healthier person, more happy.”

Montana is in the very DNA of a new movie producers hope to begin shooting this summer.

The film adaptation of Blackfeet/Gros Ventre author James Welch’s “Winter in the Blood” is the vision of Andrew and Alex Smith, the writers, directors and co-producers. They grew up in Missoula.

“The author is a native of Montana and one of the state’s most prominent writers,” Andrew Smith said.

“The story is set specifically in a place that could only be that region of Montana. So many of the people involved — including major investors and partners — are Montanans or at least have a deep love for Montana,” he said. “We’re casting a number of actors who are either from here or have a strong connection to this place.”

When the Smiths focused on Chaske Spencer — alpha werewolf Sam Uley in the “Twilight” Saga and a Lakota Sioux in real life — for lead character Virgil First Raise, they knew him as a New York actor and only later learned he’s from Poplar.

They met casting director Rene Haynes, who also worked on “Twilight” movies, in Burbank, Calif., and later discovered she graduated from C.M. Russell High School and went to the University of Montana. Production designer David Storm hails from Havre.

Lily Gladstone, cast as Marlene, is from the Blackfeet and Nez Perce nations and attended UM.

“We’ve just encountered this critical mass of ‘oro y plata’ all the way down the line,” Smith said.

Others came from Oklahoma, California and New Mexico. Some had been part of the Smiths’ 2002 film “The Slaughter Rule,” starring Ryan Gosling, David Morse and Amy Adams and filmed in and around Great Falls.

Another cast member with “Twilight” ties is Julia Jones, who will play Agnes. She was Leah Clearwater in the “Twilight” Saga and is of Choctaw and Chickasaw descent.

“There’s a quality in Chaske and Julia that’s very powerful,” Smith said. “We’re excited we get them at this point in their career where they’re still willing to be in a low-budget film. It will be interesting to see them in a completely different realm. They’re going to have fun playing off each other.”

Summer may have just begun, but two Missoula filmmakers are planning to bring “Winter in the Blood” back to the Hi-Line in the next few months.

The 1974 novel by James Welch, the late writer of Blackfeet and Gros Ventres bloods, is being directed for the screen by Alex and Andrew Smith, Montana-born award-winning filmmakers and professors at the Universities of Texas and Montana respectively.

The brothers were raised on a ranch about 30 miles outside of Missoula, where Welch used to spend time and in fact met his wife, they said.

As they grew older, “Winter in the Blood” not only grabbed them, but has held on to this day.

“As teenagers it really helped us, ” Alex said. “We’ve read it several times over the years, using it as a map home, something to get strength from. ”

It’s that strength that they want to share with all of the unfortunate non-Montanans.

“We feel Montana has been under-filmed, ” Alex said. “So we were excited to bring a bunch of film folks up to Montana. ”

As most of the story of novel was heavily drawn from Welch’s life, growing up on a ranch on Fort Belknap, the Smiths say that they couldn’t imagine filming this novel anywhere else but here, and on the Hi-Line in particular.

The brothers said that throughout the filmmaking process, they’ve faced pressure to film the movie in other parts of the state, like near Bozeman, or even in Canada, where the production could get larger tax breaks, but they’ve insisted on the Hi-Line.
“We’re excited to expose that part of the state to a wider audience, ” Andrew said. “That’s part of why we want to shoot it there.

“We’re sort of sticklers for authenticity. We feel like it’s called us up there. ”

Ensuring the film is made in north- central Montana isn’t the only struggle they’ve had with the process. They had earlier hoped to film last year, but decided to wait a year to get on more stable financial ground, that they believe they’ll be on later this summer.

“It’s tough out in Hollywood, ” Alex said. “If there’s no vampires or explosions or ghosts it’s hard to get made, but a lot of people have had resonance with this story. ”

But the brothers have been through all this before.

They also co-wrote and directed the 2002 independent film “The Slaughter Rule, ” a film starring Ryan Gosling and David Morse about a high school football player in rural Montana, that was filmed around Great Falls and screened at the Sundance Film Festival.

Morse is returning for this film, and will be joined by actors from projects like the “Twilight” series and the TV-show “Friday Night Lights. ”

The Smiths are working with award-winning Casting Director Rene Haynes, who worked with Lakota actor Chaske Spencer and Choctaw actress Julia Jones on the “Twilight” sequels, who will each play lead roles in “Winter in the Blood. ”

An independent feature film focused on a fictional Crow youth and his family will be made in Montana this fall, if funding can be secured.

The producer of “Last Man Stands” is Petra Ahmann of Silverline Cinema in New York City. Ahmann is a 2004 graduate of Laurel High School.

Alex Portugal, also of Silverline, wrote the screenplay and will direct the full-length film.

Locations for the movie could include Laurel, Hardin, the Crow Reservation and other local spots. Ahmann and Portugal were in town for about 10 days to solidify more of the production details.

Most of the cast is already in place, Portugal said, with Alex Meraz, one of the wolves from the “Twilight” movies in the lead role of Taylor Brewer. Irene Bedard, who plays the part of his mother, is best known as the voice of Pocahontas in the Disney movie of the same name.

Raoul Trujillo, who has a part in the upcoming “Cowboys and Aliens,” has been cast in the role of Taylor’s father, and Chaske Spencer, another “Twilight” wolf, has the role as Taylor’s older brother.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview :

Hi Chaske! Can you tell us about how you got involved with “Let’s Move”?

My manager called and said they were doing “Let’s Move for Indian Country” on reservations. And since I’m in Twilight and as a Native American actor in such a franchise like that, I like to use the spotlight to help out causes. So they called my manager, he gave me the info and I volunteered. I wanted to do this because teenage obesity is all over the country… and on reservations, it’s just like any other place. It’s the same thing. You know, help educate kids about what they put in their bodies when it comes to food and that exercise is very important, extremely important.

I know you had a vigorous exercise routine during Twilight. Now that filming is over, do you try to maintain that?

Yeah, just not so intensely. I do work out, but during those films, it was five days a week of intense training. Now I cut that back to probably three days a week. I gave up the cardio, but it’s all diet as well. That’s something I learned when I was getting in shape for The Twilight Saga was that it’s 70 percent diet. It has a lot to do with what you eat. You can do thousands of crunches, but unless you’re eating right, they’re not going to show up on your body. But for me, I haven’t hit the gym in probably about a month because I’ve been traveling a lot, but when I get home or I get to a place where I’m there for a period of time, I definitely find the nearest gym. But then again, I always go running. You don’t need a gym to run, do pushups, situps or squats. So I’ve kept pretty fit.

You’ve stuck up for Kristen Stewart in interviews before. Why do you think the media is so hard on her?

I don’t know why. People need to back off her. She’s really a nice girl. I just don’t think she’s into the whole game. I kind of feel that way too in the sense that, “Why do I have to keep selling myself to the media to watch a movie? Why can’t you just look at the work?” I think she does that and she’s a really nice person. If you sit down and have coffee with her or chill out with her one-on-one or in a group, she’s really a cool person. I tip my hat to her for not catering to the media. Because in the end, we’re just actors. We like to work. We like to be other people. That’s what we do. We’re not celebrities. That’s the thing. I don’t think she wants to be a celebrity. She’s not a reality show star. She’s just a person who wants to work as an actress. People need to back off from her.

So are you relieved that the whole thing is over now? I mean, the paparazzi and whatnot.

Well, I never had a problem with them because I’m not Lautner, Stewart or Pattinson. I really like the fact that I can be in this franchise, get some benefits out of it to launch my own career and still lie low under the radar. I really like that. Plus, watching all of that, I’m not really comfortable with it. That’s why I do a lot of charity work because I can use that spotlight to focus on other things and help out. Because I really do believe in helping out and giving back. But it’s not so focused on my personal life so I can fly under the radar.

Vampires, Wolves and the LAST MOVIE… OH MY! Chaske Spencer took the time to answer our questions about the past, the present and what’s next for him!

Twilightish: How does it feel to see the end of the ‘Twilight Saga’? Are you happy to move on now? Or do you wish for more movies?

Chaske: I love the Twilight Team and would be happy to continue, but of course looking forward to future opportunities.

Twilightish: As the leader of the pack, what will you miss the most about your wolf family?

Chaske: Well we are all friends so we pretty much stay in touch even when we are not shooting…

Twilightish: Do you think you’ll miss Emily (Tinsel Korey) as your on screen mate?

Chaske: I am sure we will work together again, Tinsel is awesome!

The Senate Indian Affairs committee will hold a hearing Thursday on racist Native American stereotypes, a hearing that will now also address the Osama bin Laden mission and the code-name Geronimo.

While the hearing was scheduled before the mission, a committee aide today said the linking of the name Geronimo with the world’s most wanted man is “inappropriate” and can have a “devastating” impact on kids.

“The hearing was scheduled well before the Osama bin Laden operation became news, but the concerns over the linking of the name of Geronimo, one of the greatest Native American heroes, with the most hated enemies of the United States is an example of the kinds of issues we intended to address at Thursday’s hearing,” Loretta Tuell, the committee’s chief counsel, said in a statement.

“These inappropriate uses of Native American icons and cultures are prevalent throughout our society, and the impacts to Native and non-Native children are devastating,” Tuell said. “We intend to open the forum to talk about them.”

The Senate committee is chaired by Sen. Daniel Akaka, D-Hawaii. Thursday’s 2:15p hearing will examine how Wild West shows, Hollywood films, and Indigenous-themed sports mascots have shaped the perception of Native Americans, according to a press release. Witnesses include Tex Hall of the Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Association, Suzan Shown Harjo of the Morning Star Institute, Charlene Teters of the Institute of American Indian Arts, Stephanie Fryberg of the University of Arizona, Chaske Spencer of Urban Dream Productions, Jim Warne of Warrior Society Development.

The Obama administration has indicated that the Navy SEALs who killed bin Laden did not use “Geronimo” as the codename for him, but rather it was the code for the act of capturing or killing him.
