Kristen Stewart lands lead role in ‘Lie Down in Darkness’

Kristen Stewart has landed a new role in the film adaptation of Lie Down in Darkness. Vulture reveals that Stewart has snagged the much sought-after role!

Vulture hears exclusively that Stewart has landed the lead role in an indie adaptation of William Styron’s 1951 novel, Lie Down In Darkness. Directed by Crazy Heart helmer Scott Cooper and set in genteel fifties Virginia, Lie Down will have Stewart play Peyton Loftis. As part of a dysfunctional and disintegrating family, Peyton is constantly compared to her crippled sister, Maudie, and her intense physical beauty makes her the object of her frigid mother’s jealous hatred and the target of her father’s incestuous, alcoholic lust. (Stewart will also appear in another fifties-era film, Walter Salles’s On the Road, when it’s released in the U.S. sometime this fall/winter.)

The part of Peyton had been coveted by Jennifer Lawrence, but Lawrence will spend the better part of the next year shooting sequels. (Catching Fire ignites this fall, while a new X-Men film at Fox commences shooting in January.) Set up at Open Road Films, Darkness has been in development for years by producer Jeff Sharp (You Can Count on Me, Proof) and while it’s unclear how soon it might start production, this is a major casting hurdle cleared.

    Well said, I think its funny how people are saying its gunna ruin the movie, HELLO the movie is done. Majority of the fans are kids and will just go to their local theater to see it. What does their ”supposed” break up have to do with a finished movie???

    We all get that u guys might dislike her now and u have a freedom of speech but come one I love Robert but still she is ONLY human this is the real life people life isnt a fairy tale u can't expect rob and kristen to be Bella and Edward she made a mistake she feels bad enough about it without all of u guys hating on her and saying all this mean stuff how do u think she feels!     I don't hate Kristen but she has to know this is gonna be around for awhile yet and I can't help thinking the same thing about she sleeping with the director to get the role, it's in the back of my mind. It's part of being a celeb and in the spotlight. Everyone knows their business and gonna talk. Good she got more work, I made mistakes in my life to(not cheating) and I feel so bad for Rob cause he really loved her!

It's a shame magazine company's have to sell scandalous crap to make money!     yes it really is a shame what happened, unfortunatly being celebrity people the media tears it up. and yes, what about him? It doesnt seem as if he gets as much flak but why? No one really knows or cares about him(director). I dont see the paps sitting outside his house looking for moving trucks cause honestly to them he's not “famous” enough for them.This girl however is very well known and so was her boyfriend so again….thats who everyone AND the media are going to harp on the most. Its a very sad situation, embarassing all around and the ripples are still circling out in the pond. Eventually they'll fade and everyone else will find someone else to talk about. Sadly, she will have to deal/live with this for a while but “the consquences of your actions” as they say. Yes I hope too that they can get through the heartache and get on with thier lives and careers and wish them all the best.

    She's only human, and let's be fair we all make mistakes at some point in our lives and we all deserve to be forgiven. Enough already guys, she's done it and she's admitted it, and at least she's willing to fix it and not hide away from it. It's bad enough that Kristen can't have her own privacy (or any other actors/actresses for that matter), people should really think about what they write on comments, I mean, slut? seriously? define slut! Jesus she had a fling and yes it was wrong but it doesn't mean she's a slut. Just because she's famous doesn't give you the right to call her names, what she does with her personal life doesn't concern any of us and what she does when the camera isn't rolling is totally up to her.     Regardless of the girl's personal moral issues she is still a good actress and it is not for the public to decide her personal life either way. Granted in not saying what she did was right but she was not the only one in that equation. I see everyone making their opinions known about her when she was merely dating what about the director twice her age, with a wife, and children who should have known better. To me he is no better thE a professor and a student.

    I think it's sad everyone is bagging on Kirsten..she is a young girl who has been in a relationship since she was 17. Why are people not putting the blame the 42 yr old father of 2 who cheated! I do not agree to what she did to Rob…but to put all or even most of it on her….grow up peeps…put the blame on the mature man, not the young girl who got caught up or did it to save her job. I feel bad for the kids, Rob and his wife.

Just saying!

    all im gonna say is this. I have heard many things. The guy is suing US mag. (the same mag that said taylor lautner was gay). the wife said it was her in the pic and i still think some of them look photo shopped. Her hair is black brown in the pics and was red brown before and after the pics. but they are suposed to not be speaking to each other anyway. I am not sure what to believe until there is an official statement i will just go with the evidence put in front of me.

    These are PEOPLE afterall and Bella and Edward are merely characters in a film!

    The 1st was at age 14 and the 2nd was Robert Pattinson? It saddens me that she is not only human but she is the daughter, grand daughter and one day perhaps a wife and mother and that society has yet again showed how deplorable, Enquiring (and yes..I spelled it with an “e” on purpose as tabloids possess no accountability in the fact that they are willing to destroy lives in order to make money!) minds are.

    This story isn't about Kristen Stewart alone or her sexuality and mistakes. It's about the innocent children (his) that Mr Sanders showed little respect nor care for including Miss Stewart!

    Hope you all know he was 20 years older than her and instead of protecting, mentoring and maintaining professionalism, he exploited her!

    Of course the “perfect, sinless and hypocritical” have attacked the only person in the car that day right? However, the truth has not been revealed in its entirety and probably never will. But certain photos already have been debunked such as the quote “intimate luncheon” photos as Charlize Theron attended the same lunch. 

    Which leads me to my final point, I'm horrified that since 2008 the Twilight actors and crew known the actress and yet not one of them has spoken, shared love and concern for their friends Kristen and Robert. 

    I'm appalled at the hurt that our society is inflicting upon this poor girl. It's time that people stop reading trash, posting painful comments and begin looking in a mirror to figure out why Kristen Stewart has brought them to deplorable behavior………my thoughts are A) her money B) not being able to tell the difference in between Twilight fantasy and fictional characters Bella and Edward in comparison to real life people Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson  and C) little depth or intelligence to one of the things which makes us all human, its called forgiveness or compassion.
