I have read both Anne Rice and Stephanie Meyer, and I am glad that their Vampire worlds are different.... It would get pretty boring reading about the Vampire lore if it stayed the same... I know that Stephanie Meyer's vampires sparkle, I would kind of like to think that every author has their own spin on things and can dress up their stories how they want to... As for the link between the movies and the books there are some strange differences..... The wolves are not were-wolves they are shape-shifters....and in Breaking Dawn book Jacob separates from the pack and Leah Clearwater goes with him.... anyway, these differences alone are not going to make me dislike the saga by any means.... The chemistry on screen between Robert Patinson and Kirstin Stewart made me fall in love with the characters of the saga anyway.... The scene where he tells her that he promises it would be like he never existed was just as heart-wrenching for me to watch in New Moon as it was to read the books.... I think the characters were cast well... and the actors portrayed them well... as for other people's opinions, I like to think that that is what freedom is all about!

Look, what ya'll seem to be missing is this, Anne Rice is a talented writer. Compare this to the moronic and juvenile peckings referred to as sentences from Stephanie Meyer. Besides, isn't it odd how Meyer has said she had no knowledge of vampires, she'd never seen any vampire movies or read any vampire books, but somehow she just knows so much about them and had to write about them. As to the sparkling thing, seen that is a number of other books way before Meyer "thought" it up...ha ha. The Twilight thing can't end fast enough for me....Ah Mormons, willing to make a buck on anything while proclaiming how "holier than thou they are...." and proclaiming it constantly.

What it comes down to is she's JEALOUS that her books didn't go as far as Stephanie Meyers!  I like Interview with a Vampire but personally I prefer Twilight, it's about what is considered forbidden love, angst and finding a way to co-habitate against all odds and adversities.  Even with this story coming to a "end" it will never end, there's always a possibility for another movie in the future about Renesmee and Jacob!

IF she doesn't like "sparkle vampires" or Stephanie then she should shut it because we already KNOW she doen't like them There's no point in repeating how stupid it is I just think shes wants attention since everybody 4got about HER!!!SOOOOOOO SHUTTTT UPPP!!

I just think that she shouldn't say anyhting because I'm sure you won't hear Stephanie say anyhting about Anne's characters or compare hers to Anne's. Just where does she come off. That's all I'm saying.

Editor’s Note: I have never understood why people aren’t allowed to have artistic freedom with something that doesn’t exist. Anne Rice is not the first person that wrote vampires. And she won’t be the last. So let’s stop blasting everyone like the fictional characters have to fit into a box. OK, rant done. || That's right I agree w/U, 

I totally agree with the Editor's Note. Anne Rice has a right to her own opinion, but she needs to realize that there is room all types of vampires not just hers and obviously there is an audience for the sparkly vamps with the success of Twilight. 

I agree with the editor's note. Vampires are fictitious! Which means they can be whatever anyone wants them to be. Who cares if there are "centuries" of established vampire lore? IT'S FICTION!!! And art is all about shaking up norms and making your own personal mark.

Ann Rice is just jealous that her vampires aren't super popular right now. She had her time 15 years ago. Time to move aside for someone else. Nothing more pathetic than a has-been clutching onto the past.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, including Anne Rice.  She's one of the very many people who paved the way for vampire pop culture.  I still think to idea of sparkling vampires is a little silly because I was accustomed to the vampires I'd seen on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Stephenie Meyer's interpretation is definitely different but it's one of many.  I think everyone on here should stop hating on Anne Rice.  Okay, so she blasted Twilight...again.  But my god, don't take it so seriously.  I have my own opinions about Twilight, both good and bad, and yes, I will express them as freely as I want to.  I'm not going to do it now because that's not the point.  Everyone just needs to calm down.  Don't take things so seriously.  Clearly words get to you guys when they really shouldn't.  Just let it go.

And by the way, I know nobody is going to read my post because I'm not hating on Anne Rice right now.  If I don't hate on her, my opinions apparently don't matter.  Apparently optimistic values don't count on these message boards.

i read your post, and just as Anne Rice has the right to her opinion so do you! Your opinion as well as mine, and hers and his, all matter. I don't hate on Anne Rice but i do feel that she may be bitter. I read her books, watched her movies and loved her characters during that era but this is now and i believe she is suffering from something all of us experience as we age....the feeling of the world changing and leaving us behind...that our time is over. I know this because i am getting older. But still i don't think that she should tear down another authors work! It will not change that twilight is on top!

I really don't get why she just won't shut up. She seems rather stuck up. But I still love her books - she's been the one to introduce me to vampires with her Chronicles. Lestat and Louis are characters close to my heart. And I have to admit that the sparkling thing in Twilight is the only thing where I can't seem to stop roll my eyes about because it's so cheesy. ;) Still, love the Twilight books and movies and don't see a reason not to live in both worlds: Stephenie Meyers and Anne Rices.

I love the sparkling, it gives that fantasy aspect that i look for in a book. Example in the books by Pike, wings, spells, illusions, i love the fantasy aspect while putting the characters in a real world that we are in and that pulls me in! So sparkle away! :)

as someone who has read j.r. Tolkkien, Lovecraft, Edgar Alan Poe and Ann Rice, I can say that it feels that Anne Rice is having sour grapes! Anne Rice is not the be all and end all of vampire lore. There have been many authors before A Rice to excel in this genre and S Meyer will not be the last. Loved A. Rice during her time and love S. Meyer in this time. I am sorry that Ann Rice has such little respect for another author but she is, in my opinion, simply jealous of the success of the Twilight saga.
