The Final Harry Potter Film Breaks ‘Eclipse’ Record for Biggest Midnight Opening

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse record holder for biggest midnight showing has been beat by release of the final Harry Potter film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2.

According to The Hollywood Reporter :

Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 cast a powerful spell at the midnight box office, grossing a massive $43.5 million, the best showing of all time.

The previous crown holder was The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which earned $30 million in midnight shows.

Deathly Hallows has now grossed $126 million worldwide, and the weekend is yet to come. The pic began rolling out internationally on Wednesday, earning $43.6 million from 26 countries. On Thursday, it grossed $37.6 million from 43 territories for a total $82.5 million.

As a Harry Potter fan I have to say I’m not surprised. This is truly the end of an era. It will be interesting though to see how The Twilight Saga : Breaking Dawn 2 will do in theatres in 2012. I have a feeling it’s gonna be HUGE lol !

I don't know if you've noticed, but Harry Potter overruled Star Wars, which was HUGE. I think perhaps you need to rethink you're statements, because whether or not Twilights sets a new record, they're all a majority of teen girls who watch it over, and over, and over again.

with harry potter, we see it once, maybe twice, and that's enough to set a $800, 000, 000 record.

I love Harry Potter as much as I love Twilight, and am glad the final HP film had so many midnight viewers. Twilight fans have both parts of Breaking Dawn yet to come, and I am hoping to contribute to the number attending the midnight viewing :D

Obviously you are on crack. Harry potter is the HIGHEST GROSSING FILM FRANCHISE OF ALL TIME!! Twilight is being beat by TOY STORY! Yet you have the audacity to say that BD p1 will beat it? Twilight has not even made $800,000,000 from one film, the lowest Harry Potter film made $792,000,000 the highest $1,312,000,000 case closed!

Im a huge Twilight fan and a Harry Potter fan... but no offence, even if Breaking Dawn does set the record, the movie isnt better...

Twilight (though I love it) is about a teenage girl trying to bed a vampire, whilst falling in love with a werewolf and eventually giving birth to a stupidly named child (Renesmee) who is imprinted on by a half naked guy... *cough* yeah...

Harry Potter is about a boy wizard who was orphaned as a baby - who went on a journey to defeat the evil wizard Voldemort - finding friendship, love and courage along the way... he sacrafices himself to save the entire world... wizards and muggles (you - lol) alike.

Harry Potter has touched far more many lives than Twilight has - its been around for 12 years and the cast in Harry Potter are far more nicer and talented... they truley care about their fans!!

I love Twilight, but anyone saying its better than Harry Potter is kidding themselfs... and obviously needs to visit st, mungo's asap....

i love thm both but personally i just love twilight more thats just my opinion though and shes called renesmee because its a mix between renee and esme the 2 and her middle name carli a mix between carlisle and charlie so not a stupid name

I am also a avid Twilight and Harry Potter fan, so in a way I agree with you. Im eighteen and have been reading Harry Potter since I was 7 years old - thats 11 years - its literally been my childhood so yes I agree with you Harry Potter has touched far more many lifes as people have grown up with the franchise.

Harry Potter has inspired my life, which I sadly cannot say about Twilight (despite my love for it), Ive learnt so many valuable lessons which some things in life cannot teach.

I dont think Twilight is the worst saga ever, but its very true that it cannot match up to Harry Potter, no matter how well Breaking Dawn does when it comes to screen.

Harry Potter is a franchise that will last forever - I mean its the biggest film in the entire world and the history of films. Its also the film with the most awards <3
