Nikki Reed Discusses Breaking Dawn

Now that Eclipse has come and gone, there will be no escaping Breaking Dawn talk for the cast of The Twilight Saga. I got the chance to chat with Nikki Reed about her upcoming non-vampire release, Last Day of Summer in which she stars alongside her good pal DJ Qualls, and Reed took the time to answer some of my questions about the next two installments, even though she doesn’t know too much herself.

The final book in Stephenie Meyer’s series, Breaking Dawn, is divided into three sections, however, the film version will be delivered in two. Will Breaking Dawn be broken up according to one of the splits in the book? Reed will find out eventually, but for right now she explained, “They haven’t told us yet. We haven’t even received the scripts.” Odds are they’ll be getting those scripts very soon because Reed said shooting will begin in about eight weeks and both films will be shot back-to-back.

Spoiler alert for those who haven’t read the books …

Now for a prime concern that may come up in the first film, the birth of Bella’s half-vampire baby. I’ve never read the book, but apparently the scene is pretty striking. Having not yet seen the script, Reed didn’t know exactly how the big moment would be handled but did say, “It’s certainly very graphic the way that it’s written. We clearly know what our ratings are going to be in these movies; they’re not going to be rated R films, so they’re going to have to just keep it tame.”

End Spoiler Alert

That duty will fall to the direct of the final two films, Bill Condon. Reed is still enraptured by her fantastic experience working with Eclipse director David Slade, but has high hopes for working with Condon thanks to the fantastic things she’s heard about him. “I actually haven’t met him yet, but I’m a big fan of his work and I heard from everybody that he’s such a sweet, kind man,” she said. “That’s always a nice enlivenment to work in, so I’m excited about that.”

That’s all from Reed on the Breaking Dawn front, but keep an eye out for my full chat with her packed with tons of information on Last Day of Summer, the new music she directed and more.

We really don't need to see a graphic birth. But they can't skip that. As for the Isle Esme talk, they will just show them in the morning. They will ski the beach and the skimpy outfits, they don't care too much for the character development, they just want to get the movie going. Although they might have more time for that since they are making two movies. I'm kind of worried about Kristin playing a vampire Bella, she could easily be too blood crazed, or too happy go lucky. I guess we will see, won't we?

Look if you dont make it how the book makes it out to be it just takes more away from the scene and than nobody is gonna really like it... Just like they did with Twilight they took away from the scenes and even the ppl that say they loved it still say they could have made it better and you could have i agree with the first comment either make it the way its suppossed to be and draw us in to the movie or dont make it all because your too scared of how graphic its gonna be. Stephanie wrote the book knowing there had to be ome chance that it might be a movie someday so if she doesnt want it shown she shouldnt have written it....

Honestly, you have to think logically, or in other words, with the mind of a bunch of people who want to make money. Look at the book, for example. Stephanie Meyer knew that this book would sell to a largely teenage audience. To my annoyance, it has gone much younger than that, but I digress.... This could have/should have been an adult series. I feel it could be argued that the series would have been better if they were adult targeted. Maybe not the first few, but definitely the last one. When you read the last book, weren't you annoyed that Meyer cut out all the juicey details of the honeymoon?? A romance novel would not have, but, trying to gain a bigger audience and therefore more revenue, Meyer cut out the good stuff. Put two and two together here. If she censored the books for profit, why would she/the director/the cast not also do so in order to make the best profit they can? Not only this, but I know a good handful of people who were disappointed there was not as much action in the third one as expected. So, she has ALREADY in a small way leaned towards censorship, or simply cutting stuff out. Think about it from a moneymaking perspective as they do. It makes sense. Besides that, when have you EVER seen a movie follow the book by the letter? Odds are you haven't. Be realistic guys. As much as we HATE it, this movie is NOT gonna be as gorey, dirty, and action packed as we would hope it to be. The sooner we realize this, the less disappointed we will be on opening day.
  • Mrs.Robert Pattinson :)
    This totally sucks...
  • TwiHardMomma
typo in my comment "but they go into detail..." thats supposed to be THEY DO NOT.
  • TwiHardMomma
I think that movie should be just like the book.. Dont leave anything out.. As for the sex scene there really isnt one... Without telling u exactly what's going on u already know.. Yeah they talk about breaking the headboard and ripping the pillows but u they go into detail as to how that happened. U just know... The birth scene should not be left out at all... yeah its graphic but just dont let ur kids watch it. These movies shouldnt really be watched by kids anyways... Even the first movie is a little too violent for kids.. All that blood and fighting. They already changed somethings in the first three movies. The last one does not need to be changed. Breakingdawn is the final book and the final movie... I wanna see everything played out before my eyes. If people want to let their kids see it... making two versions of the movie would be a good idea... One for us Twihard moms and one for the little kids... they can change the one for kids but not the one for the adults. When I watch the movies I notice the differences and it irritates me. I wanted nothing more than to see in action the things that I saw in my head while reading the books and that got ruined for me... They shorten things and leave things out and thats dumb... Let us see everything thats in the books. And Im sorry but I dont mind seeing Bella in pain., I dont like Bella at all. She uses Edward and Jacob.. Poor Guys! Go Team Edward!
  • I get what you are saying Rontzy, but the books are aimed at young adults, not young teenagers. Why should we have to sacrafice all the good stuff that should be put in the film because some young teens decided to read it? Ive always been a person who hates films being changed [[eg, Harry Potter]] because the story then isnt told in the right way. People who decide to just watch the films and not pick up the books will never understand the true story because if it [[which really, i suppose is their fault]] . All im saying is, I dont think its right if they DO play it down, because its got long anticipated scenes in it that big fans want to see come to life. Its unfair we have to miss out.
  • TeamJacob
Not only would they have to tame the birth and Isle Esme, but if the kids can't see sex and birth (keep in mind they are learning those things in school) how can it be ok for them to see Jane try to hurt Bella, and everyone else as well? If they were old enough to read the books then why can't they see the movie of the exact same things they read? This is getting out of hand.
  • Angiew36
I absoutely agree... what good its it to make a movies from a great romantic book and not follow the book. I mean really... that ruins it for us big hard TWIFANS!!! Make one that the kids can watch.. but r u making the movie for the kids? or the fans? They sooo need to make up their mind. Make the moveis like the book!!!
  • Marissatorrell92
and what about when bella and edward go skinny dipping =P .. well i dont think it should be 'Hostel' graphic, but you cant take all the details from the book away, stephanie meyer did an amazing job, would be a waste to make it kiddy'like
  • CreativeArtistic
Stick to the book because everyone knows that books like Blood and Chocolate and Eragon were horrible because they did not do so.
  • Jacob is the BEST
I totally agree with Rontzy. Besides they're no way gonna make it anymore than a PG13, they probably get way more money from us teens than anyone else. And we are not that young.
  • Phoenix Witch
Twilight needs more blood and gore in it. It is a movie about vampires, so blood has to come into it somewhere. What about the scene where Bella's feeding on the lion there's gonna be a whole lotta lion's blood on her. And the birth scene would do alot for Kristin Stewart, allow her to extend her acting capabilities. I really hope they put it in the movie exactly like it is in the novel. There is no sex scene in the book, there's a pre-sex scene. When they're naked in the sea they don't have to film the neck down, unless it Robert Pattinson of course. The audience could never object to that, unless they're worried about girls fainting in the theatre.

seriously just wants to see bella get hurt or something. that girll.. is the most pathetic female known to mankind. didnt she ever hear that women fought for their rights? lol. seriously.. i stronger female would have been much more interesting.. its the same love triangle repeated over and over. though i love the story line. :) and team jacob woohooo
  • Rosee284u
i love the books and if they dont make the movies as the books the fans will be dissapointed.
  • Foxey2318
stick to the books dont f**k it for the rest of us being a mum my self i woulnd let my kids watch it so i agree to need to be made an un cut for us twi mummys and one for the kids brin on the sex and blood its about time i was so drawn in to the books like i was a part of the story and the movies have dont nothink but dissapoint dont get me wrong i watch them over and over think the other half is over it lol but if they tone it down it will just be like the others not really worth watching i would rather read the books again and feel like im part of there world
    p.s GO TEAM JACOB <3 :)
  • ms86
I think that any person can read the book and they could take it however they please. So why should they not do exactly like the book says. I feel that I was upset on how they have not made the movies exactly to the books, but I haven't seen too many that do. I would hope they keep the movie as close to the book as possible, because it really shows how the delivery was extremely hard on her. If it is toned down it might not make it as serious. I can't wait to see the movie I just hope I'm not disappointed.
  • Kathie Corbett
The movie should be shown as the book is written. Young kids shouldn't be watching if this is too offending for them in the first place. Why do you think Eclipse didn't do well at the box office? Too much stuff left out. I was totally disappointed with Eclipse, I don't want to be disappointed with Breaking Dawn. Let them make the movie the way it should and keep the kiddies at home with a parent.
  • Annas_mom3209
I so agree with elana editing the book is crazy and what about the island scene this whole book had some graphic scene to it and cant be left out like the last movies its go big or go home and and on behalf of all the twilight fans I think the director should go big for this one it just wont be the same without all the scenes from the book
  • Normipoo1
Enough of the PG-13!!! The time that was spent on their honeymoon what soo romantic and sensual I have not yet felt the love the true intensity of the twilight films until Eclipse a little... it needs to be bloody and sensual... but yet teens go and see the saw movies??? I will be very upset if they mess this one up!
  • zoaj
My heck people if they show everything in the book from the sex scene to the birth scene. Of course it would get an R rating at least Also when Bella looks at her bruises in the mirror she is nude. Maybe it show that too. Please, the quality of the movie should be great since they have all the money from the first 3 They can show enough for people to understand what is going on without showing enough to make it rated R. Also if it does `get an R rating a huge amount of their fan base wont get to watch it anyway because teenagers cant get into an R rated movie. I think people need to be more focused on the whole story line instead of just the graphic parts. I am a huge fan of the books and I think that they should include all possible, but the extreme goriness that is allowed will mostly attract the people who aren't twilight fans. The fans will go see it regardless of whats in it. I am more concerned about how Renesme is done because at the beginning of her life she grows too fast for an actual person to play her. I think the focus should be done on making the movie the best it can be along the lines of details. I also think that the first 3 have left out too many major (in my opinion) details that they should almost be seen as their own entity anyway and not as an exact replica of the books. because honestly they aren't. There is my 2 cents. from an adult twilight fan.
  • Lizzogurl
i really think they should go by the book. people who have not read the books have the story all wrong... i think they should really really redo twilight its alllllll wrong... i love the movies but twilight throws all the non readers all off.
  • A1z2yaya07
My family has 3 generation of twilight fans. I think that they can make the movie without showing Bella throwing up blood, but showing nessie being born is a must! I am sure that when the dvd is released it will come with deleted scenes or maybe they will do like they are with avatar and rerelease with all the good scenes that would make it r rated. I imagine mrs. meyers will have some control over what is in and out as she has in the previous 3 movies. it is hard to see something you enjoy so much be cut at any part of the story!
  • xXxmeganxXx
Ok so you have all these little kids who fell inlove with the books and movies before we all knew what was going to happen. Just don't have any nudity and it will be fine. She didn't have nudity in the books so show some respect for the younger generations who probably love it more than you. Why would you want to take the last movie away from them? That's just selfish and rude.
  • Blaze
I do hope they put al the main parts from the book into the movies. It wouldn't be the same. I know they can't put it all but don't leave the main points out. Of course if it were up to all of us there would be more than 5 movies made from these books. Hehe.... I am reading Breaking Dawn a second time right now just because it's so good.
