Vampire Diaries stars have Twilight to thank

The stars of the hit TV series Vampire Diaries admit that the success of Twilight helped their show to achieve success.Â Stars Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley had this to say to Digital Spy.

“I didn’t see Twilight prior to shooting Vampire Diaries, but it would be ignorant and stupid to say that our show didn’t generate a buzz because of the success of Twilight, but I think we have distinguished ourselves at this stage,” Wesley told RTE.

Dobrev added: “But you know, the fact that Twilight was so successful, it made the world aware that people wanted to see more about vampires.

“So thankfully for us, Twilight has given us the opportunity to make a TV show and I think we have a few more years at least.”

Wesley added that there were similarities between the two stories and admitted: “Some people say I actually look like Robert Pattinson.

“Well look, it’s incredibly similar, we both have a high school setting, a mysterious guy that turns up and falls in love with a mortal girl. He’s got all these conflicts because of the nature of his situation and the fact that she is a vampire. So I understand that the premises of both stories are almost identical.”

He was unable to say who would win in a fight between Stefan and Pattinson’s Edward Cullen because he “didn’t know enough” about the Twilight vampire.

“That’s really up to the viewer or reader to decide,” he said.

In a fight between vampire diaries vamps and twilight vamps i think twilight vamps would win sure some of the vampire diaries vamps have human blood in there systems but they also bleed twilight vamps have granite skins and vampire diaries vamps have lots of weaknesses and they need some kind of ring to walk in the sun twilight vamps are way harder to kill you got to tear em apart and set em on fire and twilight vamps don't burn in the sun and plus the twilight vamps have killed other vamps with human blood in there system

ok so i think that the only reason that the vampire diaries are sucesfull is because the twilight saga isnt a show. if it were then nobody would watch vampire diaries. i mean look at the plots. theyre exactly the same. do you know how many people showed to see the premiere of eclipse? millions. around the WORLD. we love our vamps. but i think that its pretty sad that as soon as the twilight saga became a hit all these new vampiree shows came out. watch all of them and youll realize they all have one similar theme. it just one big cheap copy cat of twilight

I have read the vampire diaries books only after I heard that they were first published in 1991 so no way are a copy of twilight, they have just been made popular due to the whole twilight franchise - don't get me wrong l love twilight I just think that Vampire diaries should be given a bit more credit :) I do agree with all of the crappy copy books that have come along and I refuse to read any of them :P

How are the plots the same? You dumbfuck. Twilight - girl can't decide between werewolf and vampire.
Vampire Diaries - girl who falls in love with a vampire, his vampire brother falls in love with her, she looks the double of a woman they both used to love a hundred years ago who also turned them into vampires.
Please explain to me how they are the same plots because I'm dying to know how.

Agreed. Though what I cannot understand is why Twilight is liked better. Book wise Vampire Diaries were out long before Twilight. There may be a lot of similarities. Most are talking just of the vamps, what of the female leads. I prefer Elena to Bella not so klutzy and emo. And is actually a cold blooded one during her time as a vamp in the books.

I love all things Vampire. The Vampire Diaries, The Twilight Saga, Moonlight, Angel, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The shows are surreal and entertaining. And all the Vampires are good looking. (Have you noticed that?). I'm not interested in watching this crap on tv about "The Real Housewives of New York, New Jersey, Washingtion, DC, or where ever the f...iung hell their from. When I watch tv, I want to relax and escape from the world's trials and tribulations. Not listen to menopausal bit.... rag on each other!

I Love the Vampire Diaries!!! I love Stefan Salvatore. Stefan and Edward look nothing alike. I have to agree though the plot of the shows are the same but they don't realy look alike besides for the hair but thats it. <3 Stefan Salvatore <3 <3 Vampire Diaries <3 :p

Vampire Diaries (read the series) r good i think Twilight HELPED a lil w/ the sucess of the Vampire Diaries but the truth is Ian (Damon) nd Paul (Stefan) rreally hott.. so tht helps A LOT

Actually, I heard that The Vampire Diaries was created way before Twilight, but Twilight made the bigger hit with young teens, The Vampire Diaries targeting an older age group with all the gore and violence. Twilight and The Vampire Diaries' storylines are so alike, you can tell one copied the other, but I am not certain who was the original. Personally, I prefer The Vampire Diaries for the tension and gore.
