Stephenie Meyer Takes ‘Breaking Dawn’ Rated R Debate into Her Own Hands

In case you missed the news, Stephenie Meyer will serve as a producer on Breaking Dawn. She wants to ensure her vision for the book appears on the screen.  In addition, she plans to keep the movie PG-13.

Stephenie Meyer is stepping forward in the midst of the Breaking Dawn should-it-or-should-it-not be rated R debate. And guess what she’s saying? She’ll be there every day to make sure the movie accurately reflects her vision as the movie’s latest producer.

“It’s really a lot about being…in the room,” the Twilight author confides. “And it’s going to be a lot of upheaval in my life, but I felt like it was important. And then also, it’s the last one. So I kinda feel like, I’m going to commit to this for this year, I’ll get it done, and then I won’t do that again.”

The suits at Summit still claim they can do the book justice without creating an R-rated movie. Producer Wyck Godfrey reveals, “I’m unwavering in my belief that these will be PG-13 movies. And really, I say that not because I know what we’re shooting but because I feel that they should be. I feel like the audience of the books and the movies, many of them are under 18…I can’t make an R-rated conclusion to the franchise.”

I totally agree. If this movie gets rated R, then half of the fans won't be able to see it. I could not care less that those scenes won't show, anyways,no viewers,no money,no profit.

  • Tweety Bird

Why can't you make a rated-R version and a PG13 version one for the older people and one for the younger people? I think that would be the best Idea for everybody.

  • Claznique

I cant wait for this film to come out. I think that if they follow the book to the exact description then it will have a great impact on those who read the book and have ever since wanted to see a film of it. The honeymoon is very imagenative, they can have passion without porn scenes and they can give us the birth scene gory, without us seeing her private area. What they should do it make a PG13 version and an R Rated version so everyone gets their own way... when it comes out on DVD its then upto parent weather or not they let their kids see the R Rated version (and I'm guessing not very many parents will) lol. I cant wait to see half naked Edward! xx

  • TeamEdward4eves

umm im only a kid so i dont think my parents would want me watching bella and edward do there thang...ummm...so...yeah...they may make me throw out my books...they dont know about the honey moon part...lol jk. but i rlly dont wanna watch edward and bella....yeah.

  • Wizotwi

for god sick .. i wanna see edw laying in bed with bella before my dying day :D

  • Oliviadees

I think it should be rated R bc if it isnt there will be too much left out of it .

  • Tracej29

Maybe they should make both if they can a rated pg -13 and a rated R if they feel they missed something in the rated-R aswell.

  • Anitamae71

i just hope they follow the book the way we read it thats what made new moon the best movie

  • Edwardluver

They should keep it pg-13. They know that most people that see breaking dawn are going to be teens and some people cant see r rated movie. so dont ruin it for some people!

  • IwannaseeBD!!!!

Its honestly not fair!Ive seen all the series and now i want to see Breaking dawn.but my mom stole my book and read it.She says i wont be able to see it if it is Rated R.atleast do what i did in the book.sho how they were in the water.then 1 minute later its morning.Im only 10.and i really want to see 'Renesmee' but if its rated r im going to have to see it when im 15.that will be 5 years from now.it probaly wont be in stores urgh.lol

  • Emmaknic

If this turns out Rated 'R' I am going to be VERY pissed. Because I'm fourteen and I had to bug my mom until New Moon to come out just to see Twilight! I have seen all three movies so far and really looking forward to Breaking Dawn. But if it's rated "R" there is nooooo way my mom will let me see it! So please keep it clean, I love the other three and they are amazing at PG-13! So keep Breaking Dawn PG-13!!!! Please!!!!

  • Proud of you, Stephenie

I don't understand why everyone feels there HAS to be nakedness and explicit details. Everyone is so caught up in having everything graphically displayed. I am a huge fan of the series and I am thankful that Stephenie Meyer is even taking a stand to protect the purity of the novels. I think it's pathetic that adults are so insistent on having to see explicitness. Everyone sounds like a bunch of teenagers who have yet to learn how to get their hormones under control.

  • Kalruga

Where is the issue???? There was never any sex scenes in the book so why does it need to be put into the movie!!!

  • LovesEdwardnotRob

As i am 26 i do not care if it is or isnt R rated, I just hope they do the book justice...... it will be interesting to see how they do the birth scene - I hope they do not have it totally from Jacobs point of view and not show it....

  • Ingallslaura123

That birthing scene if kept as written is enough IMO to make it have an R rating.

  • KimR

I think this is the best news eva,Stephanie being there will make sure they are the best movies possible and stay true to the book.and i think its only fair that it is rated pg 13 because of young fans.I really cannot wait even though ill be sad cause its the end :( XX

  • mamashaw

I am very glad that the movie is not going to be R-rated. Everything that was written can be tastefully portrayed so that all ages can enjoy it.

  • Tayler-8090

Who cares if your 6 year old can't watch it, this is a teen/adult book. I think putting more juicy parts on the deleted scenes would be great for both sides :) If you want to watch it then do, and if not then booo on you! It's not like we have a say on how we want them to make the movie..Just read the books if they don't satisfy you.

  • ericasc

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in... although most of the ppl here are right that the sex scenes are not fully detailed in the book, the battle scene and backgrounds on the newborns from eclipse were not detailed in the book either (b/c they are from bella's perspective) yet they were portrayed on film. I think that they can put more detail in the sex scenes than what was in the book and still leave it pg-13. If anyone saw 'Remember Me', then you know that there are a couple of sex scenes in that movie as well and it is pg-13. I just don't want the kiss, then fade to black and wake up in feathers because the book is supposed to leave it to the readers' imagination, the film is supposed to portray what the reader imagines. Not sure how they'll get around the graphic nature of the birth scene but the movie business is all about money and Summit is not going to risk losing any b/c younger fans can't see the movie. I would prefer the movie be rated R but I'm going to see it regardless and Summit is counting on that, that is why it will be pg-13.

  • Stephanie Meyer may have not included sex scenes but she definetly eludes to sexual activity, and she also wrote the birthing scene in a not so delicate PG-13 manner. It's going to be very difficult for them to capture the book in the movie if they keep the movie PG-13. The last book grew as the characters have, and it's better suited towards a more mature audience. Even if that wasn't the intention.

    tqz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • GINA

i hope the movie is exactly like the book. im tired of having to explain the left out parts to my boyfriend who hasnt read the books.

  • Helg_6

There is another sex scene in the book that every1 is 4getting about and its 1 of my fav bits in the book and thats when Edward and Bella have sex 4 the 1st time after she is changed. In the book they r at it all night and Bella doesnt eva want it 2 end. Plus this is when she discovers she still feels warm and soft 2 Edward. This wont be showed if its not r rated.

  • Team_Rosalie

I honestly don't care what the rating is, so long as they stick to the book and don't leave anything good out, im happy. For thoses of you going on about 'sex scenes' re-read the books. It is strongly implied and since Bella winds up pregnant, I think that would tell everyone what they need to know. The way some people are going on about it, you'd think it described every tiny detail about it, seriously, if you want a heavy sex scene go somewhere else.
As for Renesmee's birth, i think they should do it exactly like the book, with it maily focusing on Jacob, but with strong implications as to whats happening with Bella and Edward.
Personally, i don't care about the rating, PG-13 or R i'll be seeing it and as long as it's done well and finshes the saga off on a perfect note, then this Twilighter will be very happy!

  • Kristilovesjacob!

I think the movie should be pg-13 (like the book is as it only implies there is a sex scene ands there are no graphic details AT ALL) so younger fans will not be dissapointed and then a rated AND an un-rated version released on dvd for the older fans so that even if it is only a pg-13 in cinemas, the release of the dvd will be something to look even more forward to for these older fans. :)
    p.s team jacob ;)
