‘Breaking Dawn’ Part Two Release Date Not Set For Summer 2012

The release date for the final ‘Twilight’ installation is still the source of conversation among producers and Summit Entertainment. The first part of ‘Breaking Dawn’ is set to release November 18, 2011 and according to popular belief, part two was meant to be released in the following summer of 2012. However, Summit says not so fast…

Summit distribution chief Richie Fay told MTV News that no such decision has been made and that the studio is still exploring multiple release dates, not just ones in the summer.”We’ve targeted a number of dates, and we have yet to determine when it will happen,” Fay said. “We haven’t even determined that it will be the summer. It’s still the source of discussions.”

Of course, studios always explore various release dates for pictures, especially established blockbusters, and the fact that Summit hasn’t committed the second “Breaking Dawn” to the summer season shouldn’t be mistaken for confusion or indecision within studio headquarters.

But the 2012 summer movie calendar is rapidly filling up, not necessarily with films that widely share an audience with “Breaking Dawn,” but with established franchises or properties in their own right. That May will offer “The Avengers,” “Madagascar 3″ and “Men in Black 3,” while June delivers a “Star Trek” sequel. The rebooted “Spider-Man” has already nabbed the July 4th slot (occupied this year by “Eclipse”), followed closely by another “Ice Age” and a third “Batman.”

Surely there’s room here for “Breaking Dawn,” but Summit now has experience releasing “Twilight” movies both in the summer and the fall. And, as Fay says, the studio might not be ready to pick a season for “Breaking Dawn” until “Eclipse” finishes up its theatrical run.

“We might have a preference when we see where ‘Eclipse’ ends up,” he said of choosing one season over another. “It certainly might color our thinking, but we’re comfortable with either place. Right now, it’s a bit early in that stage of planning.”

    Easy Suggestion!!
They are filming the movie as one and splitting it up! why not release the first part and then a month or so later release the second part! - That would give enough time for all the fans to see the first half and all crazy about the second part.

They are making us wait over a year for Breaking Dawn Part 1, why not be kind and let us see the second part a month later? They should have just started getting ready for breaking dawn earlier.

But I still think having the movies a month or two aparrt would be the best idea, that way they can be released onto dvd together in a special set (like they did with the uk version of new moon and the memory box)

I just hope condon doesnt f**k this up, and make it into 3D or add any other s**t into the movie, because us Twilight fans can only be kind for so long, and if anyone messes with our Twilight, we wont put off the idea of tracking you down and kicking your ass... hm why not throw in a few bites too.

yes you all are right if they wait till nov 2011 then alot of people might not wait that long. i know its been real hard for me to wait as long as we did for this last movie to come out and then waiting another year before sending out the other half. granted they have to make it in two parts but they should keep thoses two parts as close as they can so the movie can be understood.
  • i dont wanna wait soo much soo i agree that the first part should be this november and the second part should be on 2011
  • I agree i think they shouldnt wait !!! Give the first part of breaking dawn in nov. And the second part in june or july!!!

NO WAY , NO NO & NO !!!

Here's my big problem. It will harm the franchise to wait that long! Nov 2011 is too long to ride the fandom wave unless S. Meyer gets either another book out, or "The Host" makes it to the big screen sooner. If you wait too long, the franchise suffers~
  • i am glad they are waiting

Oh please, Eclipse opened in 6 theaters at the 1 theater I went to. I have never seen them put a movie in 6 of the 12 theaters. I definitely think part 1 should be Nov. and part 2 in the following June or July.
  • K_m_hutter
i agree breaking dawn needs to come out this november and not next year
  • <--hopelesslydevoted(:
When I went to the midnight showing at my theater, every single theater was showing eclipse and every single one was sold out!!! We have 12 theaters as well!
  • Mellissa Blue
Where we live we have 24 theartre's and 12 of them were showing Eclipse. that's gotta count for something.
  • Moo_cow_465
No because then they dont have allot of time to put into the movie and make it as mind blowing as possible

This is smart to wait. If Eclipse, a summer release, doesn't do nearly as well as New Moon, which made most of its kill in late November/early December when school is still in session and the holidays haven't even started to factor in other than Thanksgiving, seasons other than summer should get a favorable boost in perception. Also, I'm sure the studio is curious as to the effects of releasing two sequels from the same franchise so closely together. Usually, the second film in such a one-two punch does suffer box-office wise. Also, a series in general does sell fewer tix as time goes along. For example, although it seems like the Harry Potter franchise is doing quite well--this includes inflation. After the first film, there was a steady drop......until the fourth film--where there was a big surge in the number of tickets sold (and money made). Although it might seem like the HP movies since HP4 are doing about the same in terms of money made, they have, once again, been selling fewer tickets again as each movie comes along. Look for statistics which include the consideration of inflation by logging into boxofficemojo.com and do the right searches/push the right buttons (to include statistics which regard inflation).
