‘Breaking Dawn’ director Bill Condon’s note to fans!

Newly announced Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon took to the official Twilight facebook to write to you!  This is a great letter, and he seems like a cool guy. I can’t wait to see where he goes with Breaking Dawn.

Greetings Twihards, Twifans, Twilight Moms, Team Edward, Team Jacob and Team Switzerland,

I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making BREAKING DAWN. As you’ve probably heard, I’ve been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit – who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right.
I’m pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I’ve read BREAKING DAWN twice, rewatched Catherine’s and Chris’s movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk – a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for “newborn” status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere.

Like many of you, I’ve always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series DARK SHADOWS, which I followed avidly as a kid. But that alone hadn’t been enough to get me interested in making a vampire movie, even though my early screenwriting and directing efforts grew out of a great love for horror movies and thrillers. Since making GODS AND MONSTERS thirteen years ago, however, I’ve been yearning for a return to a story with Gothic overtones.

The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don’t think it’s difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy – and it all comes to fruition in BREAKING DAWN. This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout.

I’m a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert, and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that?

Please feel free to ask questions in the comments section below, and I’ll do my best to answer them. I hope that this will be the first of many occasions I’ll get to check in with you as we set to work bringing BREAKING DAWN to the screen. I am excited and grateful to have all of you alongside me for my TWILIGHT journey.

All best,

Bill Condon

P.S. Answer #1: No, there won’t be any musical numbers

Thanks to @Twilight and Johnnie-Marie!

my little cousin would be a perfect for the character of renesmee, she is one and a half and is very smart. She has curly hair, brown eyes, and dimples. She is the total description of Renesmee. Please contact me for more information, Thank You.

Breaking Dawn needs to be made into 2 movies, it can cut off when she turns and the baby is born i think thats a good way to cut one off and start the other. The end of bellas human life and the start of the 'newborn'.

DO NOT cut out scenes where she is getting ready with Alice and Rosalie in the bedroom. I would love to see Rosalie do Bella's hair. The whole wedding, reception and farewell must be portrayed to the utmost. As should Isle Esme, you dont need to make it R rated, you can still make these scenes M15+. No where in the books do read about actual sex, your imagination takes you there. But broken headboards, feathers, torn sexy lingerie and bruises must be in there!!

Can not wait to see Renesmee also!! You must make the baby both human and CGI. Too much of one and not the other will make it look too fake!

    Sooo can not wait!!

PS - PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THESE MOVIES 3D, THERES NO NEED!!!!!

And when is the threesome coming to Australia, Melbourne in particular?!?!? HELLO!!! We're dying out here, bring them out!!

  • RobsLover

I know he's going to do great!!!!!

  • twilighter

Will you please use the Cullen house from the first movie. So much happens with them looking out the windows into the forest. Loved that house. Please don't show us more intimate details than is in the book. I have a good imagination. I'd like to bring my teenagers with me. P.S. Loved the score and soundtrack with Twilight. The music carried the movie, but also is a wonderful stand alone cd's.

  • Cherie

I totally agree with using the house from the first movie. Braking Dawn describes the forest surrounding the Cullen's house clearly and I don't see it with the New Moon version. I also think the living room where most of Breaking Dawn takes place has to been done true to the book and not some tiny room. It must have the walls of windows and the large open room feeling.

  • ash0905

The only question I would have is: if it is made into movies, where would it broken into two parts. To me the book pretty much flows together.

  • kimdoane

Hi Bill - regarding Renesmee - if you look at how seamlessly Peter Jackson portrayed Gollum using both CGI and the real-life actor Andy Sirkis - I have no doubt with your skills you'll be able to achieve similar results. It was hard to tell where the real person stopped and the graphical image started without it looking cheesey.

  • NICOLE

how do you plan on relaying the silent conversation between anyone and Edward when he is reading their minds?

  • NICOLE

To be successful just remember these two words............ MORE EDWARD !

  • Buga

u shouldnt rate i "R" Due to the fact that there are several 6-12 year olds that want to see it...its dumb they would be ticked if the couldnt see it!!...SO PLEASE DONT MAKE IT RATED "R"!!!!!

    =)

  • TeamEdwardTwiMom

if a 6-12 year old wants to see the movie, its up to their parents discretion, not the rating. Having read the book (several times) I would hope that whether it is rated R or PG13 that the scenes between Bella and Edward are depicted accurately and in a way that most readers have imagined countless times. If this is the case, (which, PLEASE Mr. Condon, make their romance and wedding and honeymoon come alive with the PASSION that was written into the book) then scenes like the honeymoon, and DEFINITELY Renesmee's birth/Bella's re-birth would not be appropriate for a 6 year old. I feel that if the movie is depicted the way that so many twihards have imagined, that an R rating is almost necessary and the young uns out there will have to be at the mercy of their mom or dad's discretion.

  • samtk

I completely agree with you TeamEdwardTwiMom however, I don't think Summit is going to give Breaking Dawn an R rating - which will be a shame. I too believe that if the movie is made with the passion and romance depicted in the books then he'll win over the avid fans. I was disappointed with Stephanie's cut from the ocean to feathers being everywhere on the first night of the honeymoon. Perhaps this can be elaborated on in the movie??

  • Dazzled by Edward

Welcome Bill... I hope you have been "bitten" by Twilight. hehe!

MY VOTE: 2 Movies preferred and rated "R" of course!!!

  • Therrianna

i think BD should be 2 movies bcuz a lot of things wud b left out if it was 1.an i also think that it shud b rated R.plz dont cut down on specific scenes jus to make it PG 13

  • Chelsea

i think for the role of renesmee, you should have the fans choose. that's my opinion:p

  • cullenist09

PEEEEEESE tell me a.) there may be at least 2 films to this and b.) you will be using a real human baby for at least the normal things Renesmee does!!!!:)

  • sapphirediamond

would be interesting to see how he does renesmee, bellas as a vampire and how they make kristen look preggas for the movie. also the battle etc. hmm i hope its will be convicing.

  • Gothic Rose

As long as he doesn't stuff it up like Cathrine Hardwicke did with Twilight, im happy.

  • kate84

I prefered the Twilight movie to the New Moon one, so in my opinion Catherine didn't 'stuff it up' at all!

  • Gothic Rose

Well that your opinion, no need to have a go at me. If you'd read the books you'd know that she left out half of Twilight, but if you like it, fine, but I'd prefer New Moon.

  • kate84

Woah Gothic Rose! You expressed you prefered New Moon. I expressed I prefered Twilight. No need to get defensive because I disagreed with you, it doesn't mean I'm having a go at you! :)

  • JbMil

did you even read the books...new moon was loads better then twilight!!

  • kate84

Yes JbMil, I did read all the books BEFORE the movies were even made. Its just your opinion that New Moon was the better movie and just my opinion Twilight was the better movie. I know alot of people will disagree with me and I know there were alot of things wrong with Twilight the movie but I think Catherine actually did a reasonable job considering the budget she had in comparison to NM. Plus anything that was left out from the book would've been down to the screenwriter rather than the director. I guess New Moonwas my least favourite story book in the saga so I guess it wasnt going to be my favourite movie either! lol :)
