‘Eclipse’ Trailer: Five Burning Questions Answered

MTV answers some questions you may have had after watching the new Eclipse trailer this morning. SPOILER ALERT!

What’s Up With Kristen’s Hair?
The first thing you might be wondering is why Kristen Stewart’s hair looks a bit strange. The reason is that after finishing work on “New Moon” in May, Stewart chopped off her locks for her role as ’70s rocker Joan Jett in “The Runaways.” Shooting on that biopic wrapped last August, just weeks before the start of “Eclipse.” To maintain continuity with Bella Swan’s appearance in “New Moon,” Stewart was forced to don the wig you see her wearing in the “Eclipse” trailer. Some might say the do looks oddly similar to the wig Taylor Lautner had to wear in “Twilight.”

What Happened To Victoria?
Just over a minute into the trailer, we get a glimpse of the film’s central villain: Victoria. But that’s not the Victoria we know from “Twilight” and “New Moon.” That’s because last July, only weeks before “Eclipse” was due to begin filming, Bryce Dallas Howard replaced Rachelle Lefevre in the role she’d played for two movies. “I was stunned by Summit’s decision to recast the role of Victoria for ‘Eclipse,’ ” the actress said in a statement.

“It was actually a really unfortunate circumstance where the actress who everyone really cared deeply about, who has done an amazing job in this role, was unavailable,” Howard told MTV News late last year. “They were looking for someone to fill that slot. It was right before production actually happened, so of course there was intimidation there and feeling a huge responsibility to do my best.”

How Is A Human Turned Into A Vampire In The “Twilight” Universe?
A key driving point in “Eclipse” is the question of whether Pattinson’s Edward will turn Bella into a vampire. “Why are you so against me becoming like you?” she asks at one point in the trailer.

Edward’s answer is that he knows the consequences of becoming a vampire, in that immortal bloodsuckers do not age, while all their loved ones eventually die. Also, there’s the matter of how a human is transformed from a human into a vampire. The answer is that it’s unbearably painful. The process begins when a vampire pierces a human’s skin and releases venom from his glands into the human’s bloodstream. For days on end, the venom courses slowly through the human’s veins, burning ferociously as it travels and eventually causing the heart to stop pumping. It would be no easy task for Edward to inflict such pain, nor would it be easy for Bella to willingly invite it.

Why Is Everyone So Scared Of Victoria?
Why, because of her army of newborn vampires, of course. See, freshly converted vamps pose a potent threat, as they’re often uncontrollably vicious killers. Victoria has been going around Seattle slaughtering humans and building a legion of newborns. Victoria on her own is a danger that Edward and his crew could likely face. But Victoria and an army of out-of-control vampires? That’s serious cause for concern.

What, No Werewolves?!
The first “New Moon” trailer blew fans away with its first glimpse at the transformation of Lautner’s Jacob Black from human to werewolf. But if you were hoping to catch some more shape-shifting action in the “Eclipse” trailer, you’ll be disappointed.

Yet have no fear! “Eclipse” is set to feature a slew of wolf battles. You don’t think Jacob and his crew are going to walk away from a fight with Victoria’s newborn army, do you? And besides, it’s hard to complain about a lack of a hirsute Jacob when the trailer delivers what you really want: the dude flashing those famous abs.

    i like the real victoria.... i dnt like the new victoria they should have jus keeped the first one instead of replacing her and plus this was the last one she was in so whats the point.

    I WISH THEY HAD THE WEREWOLVES!!! well they will but like they wont show them!!! and i am confused does she become a vamp in this movie because in the bookes she turns into a vamp in breaking dawn

    I think Bryce will do just fine, she's a good actress in her own right and has had way bigger roles already. I love Rachelle (she's so nice- follow her on Twitter) but I'm giving the movie a chance.
    I will say I thought the trailer SUCKED.
    We get it, Edward is brooding and hot, Bella is conflicted, Jacob's in love with Bella.
    Where were the other Cullens? I'm really tired of everything twilight catering to the RPatz/Taylor fangirls and ignoring the rest of the story. Don't get me wrong, I am team switzerland, but it seems like they are really overdoing it with the "Edward is sad and hot" and "Jacob has an 18 pack" shots. I would have been way more excited to see at least a glimpse of the newborns, or some Alice acrobatics, something.

    Let's start from the top

    1) Bella's wig - It's not bad, better than Bryce's anyway.

    2) Victora - Rachelle had this look about her, she could look the part without even trying. She could also give a stare that made you want to take a step back. I think Bryce has too much of a baby face for such a evil character. I'm not going to judge her acting before I see it, but I still prefer Rachelle - she had captured Victoria perfectly. On a side note, Bryce was originally offered the role of Victoria in Twilight but she turned it down saying it was 'Too small a film and wasn't well known'. Why is it now that she accepted?! BECAUSE NOW IT'S A PHENOMENON. When Eclipse was offerered to her she just jumped right at it because she knew that starring in a Twilight film would push her fanbase to a higher level.

    5. Werewolves - well I think Summit really learned from their mistakes with the New Moon trailers. With New Moon, we had already seen most of the Werewolf scenes from the trailers alone, and there was no suprise factor when we went to see it at the cinemas. This is just a hunch, but I don't think we will be seeing many werewolf scenes in the trailers - especcially the new members of the tribe.

    Just to add on to the Victoria issue - I've read a few comments on a few different websites saying that Bryce's take over was all Rachelle's fault 'because she was the stupid one who went and broke the contract by booking a new film which overlapped with Eclipse'
    Well, can I say - firstly. The contracts that you sign before you start a film series don't actually mention dates of production. They merely state that you will be there for all films that your character is required in. If Rachelle booked this other movie months before the Eclipse timetable was announced, how was she to know that it would overlap? She just booked another job! + The overlap was only like 2 days, I'm sure Summit could have reschedueled Rachelle's timetable like they did with Cam Gigandet for Twilight. He was due for another job half way through Twilight, she they condenced all of his working days into the start of the scheduel. Team Rachelle FTW.

    Anyway, - can't fix what has happened in the past so I'm going to quit ranting now. :)

    DUDE WHAT THE HELL!!!! THE TRAILER SUCKED, THEY SHOULD OF JUST WAITED AND SHOWED IT AT AN AWARD SHOW OR SOMETHING... TO MAKE IT BETTER. THE TRAILER MADE THE MOVIE LOOK BORING, THE BOOK WAS SO EXCITING. MY FAVORITE, I BELIEVE ITS THE BEST BOOK IN THE SERIES!!!!! AND THIS TRAILER MADE THE MOVIE LOOK GAY OR BORING. I HAVE A FEELING THE MOVIE WILL DISAPPOINT. BUT THEY DID SUCH A GOOD JOB WITH NEW MOON, AND SUCH GOOD PROGRESS WAS MADE FROM TWILIGHT. SO I HAVE A FEELING, IT WILL JUST GET BETTER AND BETTER. HOPEFULLY, THATS WHY I STILL HAVE MY HOP! BUT SERIOUSLY. THE TRAILER WAS WEIRD. IT WAS ALRIGHT.. WHATEVER LOl

    May I remind you that this is just the first trailer? They want to capture the essance of the film without giving too much away. I think they did a good job.

    umm i know that. i dont hate it. but thats why i said ^^ in the first thing i wrote, thats why i still have hope, and know they will do a good job i like this director. i just think they first trailer they could of made a little better. everyone has been goin crazy over it, for the first trailer for months! thats all im saying. is there was so much excitement stirred up! but i know it will be amazing. it was just weird, idk i thought about ways the trailer could of went from the book. but yeah its not bad, it was alright. everyone has there opinions! it just didnt really show much. at all. all that stuff in the eclipse trailer i felt like i already saw, combination of the movies (new moon and twilight) put together. but yeahh i like it

    To all the people commenting about the "New Victoria". The old Victoria had prior commitments to a movie she signed up to before the Twilight movies had begun to be filmed. She had signed a contract and could or would not break it. Summit of course realising that they did not have an actor for that character, had to hire someone else. So now that you have the whole facts, you can see that it is no ones fault. Also if you had been asking similar questions that were answered in this article, read the friggin books!

    cristina rodriguez c i am with you. I hate the new Victoria too. don't know why but i tried to fix that. lol i sent a strongly worded letter to summit telling them they suck because they changed victoria. they just ruined the whole saga doing that.

    I Don't Like the new Victoria, soo yeah she's a good actress, but Rachelle Lefevre was just the whole package. She just had the look, the eyes everything the character of Victoria stands for... I Just think Bryce Dallas just doesn't look evil enoughm, still hope the change turns out good!!!!!!!!

    i also dun like the new victoria...she doesn't have da ommph, wit tat character!!! I love the 'old' victoria and tis wig looked so freakin fake on her! dammit!

    but well, nothing that we can do, it just da 'old' victoria doesn't told summit regarding her schedule...it's her fault too.causing summit to replace her.

    hopefully, tis movie did reflect almost every exciting scene that I've imagine from 'Eclipse'.

    Awwwww...can't wait for tis movie to release......and I'll read Eclipse all over again ^^

    they don't reveal anything because its a trailer you moron, and yeah they replaced the original victoria but more fool the one who played her before, would anyone else give up a role in the twilight saga ? no, i thought not.

  • i dont like this new Victoriaa! Rachelle was so perfect ! but whatever, there's nthing i can do. I hope they did a great adaptation from the book, because is my favoritee one!

    and the questions, well, i already know that answerss! it has to be... Five Q's from no Twilight fans

    The only ones who would have had those questions are people who have not read the books and/or have not heard any news last year. There was a might uproar over the firing of 'our' Victoria.

    im soo excited about eclipse! But it sucks they had to replace Victoria.. but i heard she had another movie deal she didn't tell summit about so they had to recast her, its sad i miss the old Victoria she was PERFECT! but i have hopes for Bryce Dallas she is a good actress i jsut hope she is just as good!! Also umm all those answers um ANY twilight fan SHOULD! know them! lol i was so sad with the trailer though! it was such a love hate, i hated how they didnt really reveal anything but loved that they are actually keeping this movie secret so when june FINALLY comes around the movie will be INCREDIBLE!
