Chris Weitz will not direct ‘Breaking Dawn’

Gossip Cop has confirmed that Chris Weitz is out of the running for director of Breaking Dawn.  Here’s the scoop.

  • “I have absolutely no idea whether “March” will translate to “early March” or “the end of March.” The decision could be announced today, for all I know. Or maybe they will make us all wait until March 31. The Ides… well, maybe not. I don’t know if I can wait another fifteen days, and anyway that date has ominous connotations. “Beware the Ides of March,” and all that. So please let us know before that, HBO.” Martin said on his “not blog” Monday morning. By Tuesday afternoon he was at a presumed loss for words, and simply posted a classic Peanuts video.
  • HBO has requested a total of ten episodes, including the existing pilot. Filming is said to resume this June, locations include Northern Ireland and Morocco.
  • Although the number of actual seasons is dependant on ratings, it’s said each season will cover the storyline of at least one book.
  • The cast includes Mark Addy ( A Knight’s Tale, Still Standing, The Full Monty), Sean Bean (Troy, Percy Jackson & The Olympians) Peter Dinklage (The Station Agent, Elf), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd, Rocknrolla), Jennifer Ehle (Wilde, Pride and Prejudice), Lena Headey (300) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven) among others.

    hi ..Im so happy that Chris will not directing Breaking Dawn because i read all the books and when i watched new moon i thought that it was a horrible movie he exaggerate all the things an he didnt follow the facts and the emotions of the book . Catherine did a wonderfull work with twilight but Chris exaggerate all the movie and he changes allot of things .
    thats my opinion he just exaggerate and changed things thats why i hate him.

    hi... i didnt liked new moon ..i read the book and when i saw the movie i thought : this was horrible the director didnt follow the book it was a horrible movie i think that catherine did a wonderfull work with twilight but chris i hate him i think he is just not follow the emotions and he exaggerate all the things of the book .
    Im happy that he will not direct breaking dawn .

    What are you people talking about? Chris is better than Catherine! Catherine's use of tinting the whole screen blue is very strange. It says in the book that the town of Forks, Washington is "too green" to Bella. Catherine barely used green and dulled out a lot of it. Chris had a much better use of colours. Catherine also did some strange things with hair. Alice? She's supposed to have short, spiky hair. She looked like she'd just flipped it at the ends. And the eyes for the vampires were not very well done. But Chris fixed up both of these problems in New Moon.
    Chris did unfortunately do too much focusing and camera shake which is a little disorienting and gives the viewer a bit of a headache after a while. Also, the shot of Bella as a vampire was much too humorous for what was going on it the plot.
    Both directors had their pros and cons, but overall, Chris is a better director than Catherine.
  • i agree that new moon was more to the book., but the movie itself wasn't as good. twilight was ver good. i believe cathrine hardwick is better than chris weitz.

    I like Chris..He sticks to the book and the plot i read New Moon so many times and when i saw the movie i knew wad was gonna happen..Chris gave all the cast personality and character. The break up scene was heartbreaking i cried a lot! Although i fell in love with Edward in Twilight i feel that Chris did a great job of bringing Edward in New Moon so the fans don't miss out on him.The movie was so real i feel like i'm there watching it all happen..Go Chris!!!

    I loved New Moon soooo much!! It sticks closer to the book and the break up part was heart breaking it made me cry everytime i watch!! Go Chris!! Although i fell in love with Edward on Twilight but Chris gave a real character to Edward,when you're watching it's like you are there witnessing everything

    new moon was way better than twilight cuz it connected the book more,
    twilight didn't really show the love between edward and bella like new moon did. wen u watched new moon, u can feel the pain that bella is feeling, so I like chris... he knows wat to do.

    I loved Twilight for the music and the colors used as well as the story. New Moon, not so much. I hope the director for Eclipse will treat the movie with the love Catherine gave Twilight. And did I mention the hair for New Moon. Alice with a hair helmet and Jasper with a bouffant. It was so distracting. I still have hope for Eclipse.

    I loved Twilight, the music and the colors used made the movie for me. New Moon, not so much. I hope Eclipse will be treated with the love Catherine gave to Twilight. And did I mention the hair and makeup for New Moon? Hair helmet for one of the favorite characters, Alice and a bouffant for my next favorite, Jasper. It was painful.
  • I will agree with that about New Moon. Rosalie's and Jasper's hair... really? I get that his New Moon hair was more realistic of his time period- but if everybody else can adapt to the time period- so could Jasper. His hair was GORGEOUS in Twilight. It should have stayed. I don't even want to get in to Rose's awful hair. Bleecchh. Poor thing. I LOVED Jake's hair, and, of course, mourned when it came time for those lovely locks to go bye, bye- although I THOROUGHLY enjoyed my first sight of his transformation in the rain when Bella came to his house. HOT D@MN.
  • Catherine slaughtered Twilight. She was obviously wayy out of her league on everything from directing to post. The cinematography was abominable, not to mention the fact that she turned these relatively green actors loose with improv that they were JUST not strong enough to handle yet. Weitz did a phenomenally better job with New Moon- the two are not even in the same category. I have a LARGE amount of faith in David Slade.. he is a photographer, and his photos are UNREAL. The man has a beautiful handle on what he's doing, and he's taking his time to make it right, rather than pumping out another cheap little cash cow, which is admirable, especially amongst all the backlash he is receiving from the teeny half of the Twilighters, who are really riding him to get it over with. David Slade will not disappoint. Trust.

    I didnt like Twilight, it was slow, the fast, then slow and extremely dark and mundane. I hadnt even read the book to compare it to either. New Moon was brilliant and followed the book well. No film will totally compare to the original book, but Chris did brilliantly with NM. I'm sure Eclipse wont be a let down. If Catherines direction of Breaking Dawn is anything like Twilight, I reckon we're all in for a big disappointment. Gonna go complain on Twitter now!!!

    New Moon was ALOT better that Twilight. And I'm hoping Eclipse will be even better than New Moon and then so on and so fourth.

    its my favorite book out of the series and if its to short like only an hour long per movie bcus i heard they're breaking it up into 2 movies... then im gonna be totally pissedd offf. at LEAST 3 hours per movie... as LEAST! and we don't want 3-D its stupid.

    well tbh im now bothered who does it they were both awsome im just really buzzed that breaking dawn is being turned into a movie,, it was this close to not being a movie so im just really happy :))

    Chris' redition of the story was sooooooo much better than Catherine could even pretend to grasp. I'm sad.

    Katherine Hardwick better not direct Breaking Dawn! She did a terrible job with Twilight and she would do a horrible job with Breaking Dawn. She gives a more indy feel to the films which doesn't work at all. I don't mind Chris not directing it even though he was fantastic for New Moon, but I hope they hire on a new director. Possibly David Yates from the final Harry Potter series?
