Summit has replaced ‘Eclipse’ editor

Summit_280x236

EW.com is reporting that Summit has replaced Att Jones as editor of Eclipse and has put Nancy Richardson, the editor of the original Twilight, in his place.

Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the uber-successful Twilight series, confirmed this morning that it has replaced Eclipse editor Art Jones with Nancy Richardson, the editor of Catherine Hardwicke’s original Twilight film. The studio is not placing blame on Jones, who previously worked with Eclipse director David Slade on his horror film 30 Days of Night as well as Slade’s Ellen Page-starrer Hard Candy. They do believe, however, that Slade’s material – which they call “very good” – needed a stronger edit. The studio has more confidence in Richardson, who they say understands the emotion of the characters and is an ace at balancing action with the other elements of the film.

Richardson recently completed Miley Cyrus’ upcoming romantic drama The Last Song. Eclipse is scheduled to debut on June 30.

They better not screw this movie up. they better leave those bedroompictures of edward and bella in, like the proposal , leg hitch not to mention better not screw up the ending, they better have ended it with edward putting the ring on bella finger in the meadow like it is supposed to end like the book. I am very nervous about all of this I am a huge fan of E&B and there are thousands of edward and bella fans out there that want to see the same thing.

I don't like Chris Weitz's New Moon. It's very slow in tempo and boring in the way it's been cut. All images are from the same distance and from the same angle: from the side. The camera person in Twilight and Catherine were able to create the intimacy and subtlety of the events: facial expressions vary very much. Weitz failed in the intimacy and keeps his distance as a director. It's just idiocy to think that removing clothes from the male characters will bring enough emotional intensity and sparkle. At least I'm not that simple minded. Also the music in New Moon was terrible country, western and old people's music from the 50's Tarzan films. In Twilight Catherine was able to combine great music with the visual world that was interesting and beautiful. I hope Catherine Hardwicke is going to direct the movie where Bella gives birth. I really don't want to see any male director hassle that.

Getting larger audience means always boring ordinary choices. I hope Summit stops that path >NOW.

I don't think this is the best of news either. No wonder we haven't seen any trailers or stills or soundtrack news or anything yet? Sounds like Summit are not happy with the edit, which does put a bit of doubt out there about the film. I don't think that bringing the editor in from Twilight is a bad idea though. She knows the films franchises extremely well and will get the feel of the movie balanced etc.

I think that maybe DS has put to much emphasis on the newborns and fighting etc, and if we remember rightly from the book, we only 'hear' about the fighting from Jacob, Seth, Edward etc. There is no fighting witnessed, so fans shouldn't be expecting lots of blood/gore and fighting. Ultimately, its a love story with a bit of action thrown in.

Come on Summit, us dedicated and loyal fans have been waiting eons for some news more trailers, soundtracks, the score etc. Blimey, the New Moon wait was not as long as this because we had countless teasers to keep us hooked til the release date.

Roll on 9 July - yes, us in the UK have to wait the longest to see!!

Roll on 20 March for my New Moon DVD!!

Fingers crossed the film comes together.

when I read this I became seriously anxious, at these point to start the edition of a movie from scratch is a serious business, this movie can´t be so mellow or soft like the other twilight movies... Eclipse is a really passionate and intense book, Victoria with her army of newborns, the Edward-Bella-Jacob triangle, Bella wanting to move FORWARD with her relationship with Edward, they can´t make it like Twilight, I mean I loved Twilight but this is a different book, the characters and the story have evolved, Oh my God I really hope that the huge anticipation and excitement we all have to watch Eclipse doesn´t go to hell and they mess up the movie. I want to think that the former editor gave much more relevance to the action part instead of the emotional part and that´s why Summit dropped him, I wanna hope that is

  • I definitly think this might mess up the movie. Lets face it, the only people who did well on twilight was the actors, the rest of the movie was pretty bad. I really hope they dont ruin Eclipse. Now im anxious about it.

exacly what I thought!! and less blood!! I mean nooo!! bella is not an angel people nooo.. and there is s serious blood in the book.. they just want to put stars and rainbows on it? c'mon.. I was confident in that DS would make an awesom teenage movie and not a disney one..

oh no - more editing? and someone from the original? I thought they were looking forward - not back as many hope these movies get better and can draw in a larger audience. What does DS think I wonder?
