Who is the bigger box office draw: Kristen or Rob?

56212475

Cinematical ponders the question of whether Rob Pattinson or Kristen Stewart is a bigger box office draw.

For all the money the Twilight franchise is making, how much of it actually has to do with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson? This March, exactly one week apart, both Stewart and Pattinson will be releasing a pair of movies that are arguably the biggest since they’ve been wrapped up in all things Twilight. Prior to this, Stewart watched Adventureland gross a measly $16 million, while Pattinson’s Little Ashes didn’t even cross the $500,000 mark.

But that was back in 2008, and one would think the heat on these two has grown since then — especially with the release of a second Twilight film, New Moon, which went on to break records in 2009. Now the two actors are back for another round of solo efforts, with Pattinson debuting Remember Me on March 12th and Stewart rockin’ out in The Runaways on March 19th (I’m not counting The Yellow Handkerchief because it’s way too small to do any sort of damage). To be fair, Remember Me comes from Summit Entertainment and, as such, is fortunate enough to be carrying the first trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The Runaways, meanwhile, has a handful of mediocre Sundance reviews and a much talked-about make-out scene between Stewart and Dakota Fanning. As far as gimmicks go, I’m scoring this one as Pattinson: 1 Stewart: 0.

Even with all that, I still can’t see these two films making a ton of money (Remember Me has the better shot, in my opinion). And if they don’t, should we begin to re-evaluate just how popular K-Stew and R-Patz are? If neither of these two can step away from Twilight and help a movie earn at the box office, then what’s the point? Why the obsession? How can they be superstars and not be superstars at the same time? It just doesn’t make sense.

Who do you think is the bigger box office draw when it comes to solo efforts? Do they need each other to succeed, or do they simply need better material to work with?

I say it’s a bit too early to say.  I’ll be interested to see how it turns out, and I have high hopes for both of their upcoming films. What do you guys think?

Personally, I don't see the movies to see the two of them act; I see them to watch the books come to life. I have only seen some of their other work, and I've never been highly impressed by them as actors. Kristen, especially, doesn't seem to have any depth beyond her own personality (all her characters turn out sounding and acting the same). I think Remember Me has a better chance of doing well in the theaters because it is a chick flick, and those have a certain draw; Rob Pattinson or not. I MAY see it (if I can convince my boyfriend to see another chick flick after forcing Valentines Day on him!). The Runnaways is a rental for me - I'm not going to spend money to see a movie on a band who doesn't have much relevance these days.

Don't think they do movies because of the money and fame. Every actor who wants to come to a level where he can choose his roles without starving to death because of turning down the roles, must do a blockbuster or get into a franchise.
  • i am a big joan jett fan so i am pretty excited about the runaways as i am also excited about remember me!!! i think its awesome they chose kristin stewart to portray joan jett, i would call that an honor! and rob pattinson playing someone other than edward is goin to be great! they are both very talented actors and i love all the stuff they make! so, i will be in the theaters twice in one week seeing two different movies next month!!!! i can't wait!!!!! :)

i think robs film will do better just as the unaways in a 18 so remember me has a bigger audience
  • mrsrob
Both are great actors but i guess Rob has more fanbase than Kristen... more Excited for Remember me though but I'm gonna see both film love Rob n Kristen...:)

DEFINATELY ROB. Although, any movie either of them are in (and Taylor too!) I would see. I really do think Rob is bigger than Kristen right now.

-Sorry Kristen): I still think your absolutely awesome and amazingly gorgeous!(:

I think both of them are great and can make a movie earn a lot of money
  • <--hopelesslydevoted(:
I completely agree with you, lindsay. It's a little too early to tell, but I'm expecting a lot out of them in these movies.
  • Jamie :)
I think they are really awesome! I like them both! I really loved Adventureland, it was such a great movie and I have liked Kristen Stewart since she was in a lifetime movie called Speak wayyyyy before Twilight! I really love Rob's movie How To Be, it was really funny and uplifting and makes you realize that you dont have to be anyone but your self. I am super excited for both Remember Me and The Runaways!!! I think they will both be amazing movies. Rob isnt as good an actor as Kristen but I still love them both. I cant wait for both movies!!! :)

I Prefer Kristen but I know Rob's movies can make more money. Any way's I don't think that matters to them, Kristen seems like a girl who prefers being low-key and she is happy like that, I don't think she loves all the attention.

I think it's an interesting question, but it's not a fair one. RM is commercial - TR is not.
  • alyssa1991
i love them both but im a way more of a kirsten fan
  • i would say Kristen has the bigger one
but that is probably because i have looked up to her for 3 years now!
    oh well
i want to see both of there films
  • misssdandelion
    i think rob

I think with the majority, that Rob will do better out of all this. Although I dont think he's the best actor in the world, his part as Edward was perfectly cast and he carried it off perfectly. Kirsten on the other hand is abysmal, her acting carries all the skills of a wet newspaper. I will however be going to see Ashley Greene in Skateland. I think this girl has bags of talent

I think Robert's movies will make more money simply because there's more screaming little girls out there drooling over him than boys for Kristin or girls. Sure some of the girls love Kristin but some will probably wait for the DVD.

I personally like Robert's acting better than Kristin so i feel his career will go further. However The Runaways is a much appealing movie to me so I will choose to see it first on the first weekend. Although I feel forced to go see Remember Me on the 12th cause I would do anything for an Eclipse trailer but I've figured out a way to outsmart that situation *wink*

I would rather see The Runaways, of course I will see both because I love these guys. But I am and have been a huge KStew fan for a while.

I would say Rob would have a bigger box office draw in this case because it is a summit
movie and has the advantage to previewing the first trailer
for Eclipse. I'll be honest when it comes to these two movies, I was interested in going
to see Remember Me because it has a storyline I would be interested in, and now that they are showing the Eclipse preview it became a MUST SEE movie.
The Runaways doesn't have a story line that I would want to spend the money to go see in theatre. That's my personal opinion.
