Stephenie Meyer updates her official website

Stephenie Meyer took to her official website to give us a few bits of information. Here is what she had to say regarding Haiti, book and music recommendations, and the new film Dear John.

January 27, 2010

Hope your new years have all started off right. A few unrelated things:

- I’ve been very impressed with the world in general and the Twilight fansites in specific in the support and love everyone is giving Haiti. It’s amazing to see how Twilight fans have come together to help. You are wonderful people. At this point, I think it’s important for all of us to remember that the situation in Haiti is not going to be cured overnight, so… keep up the good work, and let’s all keep the Haitians in our thoughts and prayers.

- A new book recommendation: I recently read and adored The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It was one of those books that feel absolutely perfect and satisfying, and when you finish it you sit around wishing that you could find another book just like it.

- I realized that there was an egregious oversight on my music recommendation page. How have I never listed Metric? That’s crazy. Anyway, Fantasies was one of the best albums of 2009.

- Finally, a movie recommendation: Dear John comes out Friday the fifth of February. Thanks to my cool friend Wyck (who many of you have seen in various Twilight Saga interviews, as he is one of the producers on our movies, and who is a producer on Dear John) I got to see this one early. I will confess, I cried. Also, I discovered Channing Tatum, who I’ve somehow missed until now. Likey. Lots. Amanda Seyfried is entrancing as always, and the chemistry (chemistry is always the crux of a movie for me) between them is lovely. Though the chemistry between Channing Tatum and Richard Jenkins (who plays his father) was my favorite part.

Have a great week!

Steph

Do you guys ever read any of the books that Steph recommends? I have read a few and they are really great!  Tell me in the comments if you have!

OMG,I'm gonna watch Dear John on Friday 5,I love that movie!!!!!!!!

  • Daniele

The Guernsey Literary society...book is amazing...A book I have told many about. Not my usual style (as a rule I run from "letter" style books) but this one is terrific...I do wish the ending was not as traditional since the characters are not but considering the era it represents, I guess it had to end the way the author has it end. A great book.

  • wblian

Stephanie, could you PLEASE finish writing Midnight Sun?????? we are dying for it....

  • lorifang

I think Stephanie should go on to write another book for the Twilight series about life for Jacob & Renesme after Breaking Dawn, and also Bella and Edward too> Isn't that a great idea???????

  • twigurl

I heard that she might finish midnight sun and although I dont belive this girl there might be a book called black star.

  • KaileyCullen

Hunger Games and Cathing Fire were brilliant! Can't wait for the 3rd in the series! I have read them over and over as I have with the Twilight series :D

  • Tamara_Cullen

Not only would I LOVE to see Stephenie finish Midnight Sun, but also write another book to follow Breaking Dawn... say 6 - 8 years into the future, once Renesmee has fully matured AND she could write a historical book on each character's history prior to Twilight - well, minus Bella ... as she was only 17 at the beginning of Twilight.

Also, cannot wait for Breaking Dawn to start filming (you know they will, ALL THAT $$$ - or at least, I am banking on it!) - it is my favorite book ever!

  • I_Love_Emmett

    hey Tamara_Cullen,
i wish stephenie would write a follow up for braeking dawn, too. just cause we all need to check up on our fav characters! and does any1 noe when midnight sun will be published?? well i pretty much agree with everything u r saying. mostly the historical books!

i am dying for midnight sun to come out n for ecplise to come out! i hated new moon the movie! it sucked!!! but the book was awesome. but breaking dawn n ecplise are my fav books.

    I<3 EMMETT CULLEN!!!

  • toocute

I agree. There is still so much to tell. Like what happens with Renee, you know that she wont go long before she realizes that something is up when she cant see Bella. Also didnt sound like the Voltouri were finished with the Cullens. Oh and of course how Renesmee & Jacob work out. Renesmee is 1/2 human so she can still mother a child. Would be cool if the story continues.

  • shannon

i couldnt agree with you more. theres SOOO much she could still do wht the story line. i would love to see how college worked out for bella and what happens with renesmee and jake work everything out. and a history book would be awsome. i have read the first cut of midnight sun and cant wait to see if she finishes it too. i love it. if she ever had the time i would love to see her do a book in edwards veiw to all 4 books. but that would take a LOT of time on her part. breakin dawn was by far my favorite book of the 4 as well. i really want to see it made in to a movie as long aas the director from twilight is not brought back. i loved the first movie but it could and should have been SOO much better.

  • clrklynn

I agree about Twilight, I love loved it when I first saw it, but I hadn't read the books yet, after I read the books I realized that movie was no where the story line of the book and wished they would have kept the movie closer to the book, especially the weekend Edward and Bella first spend together!!! (meadow, and the first time he spends the night). Also I agree that in some fantasy world Stephenie would write all 4 books again in Edward's prospective. Yes I had to read the partial of Midnight Sun off of her website and feel in love with him more knowing how he felt and it made me understand more of the story. I would love to know how he felt all along! I agree it is a longshot but oh, I'm so hopeful!!!

  • shannon

yes im really hopeful that she would do all 4 books again. it would be awsome. i mean could u think of how great breaking dawn would be on top of what it already is, if you knew bella and edwards side of what jake's part of the book was and then what all he really thought of bellas half? best seller list for sure! :) what a fantasy world that would be.

  • toocute

I am hopefull that there will be a 5th book told by Edward. Although i would love it if it wasnt just a retelling. Be nice if it would kinda touch base on everything that had happened in the last 4 books & then start the new story but like i said in the way he sees it.

  • ChloeLautner

yeh well she could go on forever tbh with all of the books but otherwise people will start to loose interest cus otherwise it will get rather tiring! I think she should leave it at breaking dawn maybe publish midnight Sun. But she said that she wants to get onto other projects and they will be really good aswell i am sure :P

  • I don't know if Stephenie Meyer ever recommended the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead or the Immortal series by Alyson Noel but these are two of my favorite series right now <3 they are amazing, and I recommend them to anyone who has read the Twilight series (which is probably everyone reading this... lol)

  • Seriously loved the Hunger games.

  • Tanner

I absolutely love the Hunger Games series, which Stephanie recommended and would recommend the books to anyone. I also read the Mortal Instruments which was also a good read however I personally feel is a step down from the Hunger Games.

  • Hunger Games and Mortal Instruments are two of my favorite series ever <3 can't wait for the next book in the Hunger Games Trilogy to come out :]

  • foreverinlove

I read Wings by Aprilynne Pike and it was an enjoyable book. It was her first book and kept my interest. After reading Stephanie's books (over and over) I thought there was nothing else that could keep my attention. This was on the way to recovery after the devastation of knowing that there where no more Stephanie Meyer books to read. I have mended my heart with a few others as well but I still listen to the twilight series on tape and when I need a little pick me up I will start one of her books again.

Tip: one other series that was good and had a comment about Stephanie on the cover is Need and the sequel Captivate....these where dang close to what I crave.

  • hey foreverinlove i read wings to do u know if there is a sequel yet ???

There is another coming out. I just checked Amazon books but it doesn't have a release date yet.

  • Kimberly

i've read the first 2 books in the Mortal Instruments series...i'm very anxiously looking forward to starting the 3rd. i've gotten my 12 year old son into it as its got a great mix of action and suspense as well as romance. he likes it too!

  • foreverinlove

I loved these books as well... The third was the best and I just flew through it.

  • Kimberly

did you know a movie production company (execs formerly from New Line) bought the rights to the book? I think it would be a great adaptation for a film - of course, if it's done right...
