More discussion on Breaking Dawn: Is it a go?

The Twilight Saga producer Wyck Godfrey talked with the LA Times about Breaking Dawn.  He had some interesting things to say.

Wyck Godfrey, the producer of all the films in the “Twilight” saga, admits that the creative team still doesn’t know how they’ll handle the character [Renesmee] in the “Breaking Dawn” movie, but said that the plan is absolutely for the production to go forward — as either one or two installments — with an eye toward beginning to shoot in Vancouver this fall. All three stars are signed for “Breaking Dawn,” he said, meaning that Stewart and Pattinson will be dealing with the joys and woes of interspecies parenting and newly minted heartthrob Taylor Lautner will return as often-shirtless shape-shifter Jacob Black.

At the moment, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who’s penned all the “Twilight” movies, is working on the “Breaking Dawn” script(s). “It’s a work in process,” Godfrey said in an interview Friday. “The issue [of whether there will be one or two movies] is not going to be resolved until we get the full treatment and see whether it’s organic. If it’s not organic, I don’t think it will be done, and if it is, it will be. It really has to do with how much level of detail from the books there is, with all of these new vampires that appear in ‘Breaking Dawn,’ the whole section about Jacob… It’s a very long single movie if it does become a single movie.”

Although there’s been a great deal of online chatter about whether Chris Weitz, director of the second and most recent movie, “New Moon,” would return to helm “Breaking Dawn,” Godfrey downplayed that possibility, saying, “I think everyone would be happy and excited if he came back, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Read more here.

So, to sum up:

1) The PLAN is to move forward, but they don’t know how many films it will be yet. It will hopefully begin filming in the fall in Vancouver.

2) Kristen, Rob & Taylor are all signed on for the film.

3) Melissa Rosenberg is currently working on the script.

4) Director decisions have not been made, and it is unlikely that Chris Weitz will be able to return for the last installment(s).

either way you know they are going to make it, it is way to popular not to now they just have to decide, 1 movie or 2. Also if evian can have dancing babies in their comercial surly they can find away for Renesme.

Thank God Chris Weitz is not directing BD. Its Catherine Hardwicke who brought Twilight to us its Catherine who gave summit and twifans the perfect Edward Cullen and the rest of the characters. New Moon is not a hit becoz of Chris Weitz its a hit becoz its the sequel of such a good film (Twilight). Catherine brought out Edward and Bellas passionate romance so beautifully and aesthetically with its brilliant music score so she should complete the saga. Chris Weitz is a bad option as he will only concentrate on the wolfs please summit do not drift from the centre plot of the story Bella and Edwards story. Chris also tampered a lot with the original script written by Mellissa R. We should all VOTE for Catherine to direct B/D.

I think they should make the character of Renesmee an actress. but in order to do that they would have to have a baby infant toddler little girl just use different actresses as Renesmee grows.
    TEAM EDWARD!!!
    TEAM BELLA!!!
    TEAM RENESMEE!!!

  • steph_forrest_96

Woo i hope it does end up as 1 long film or 2 longish ones so long as jacobs view goes first :D

  • I hope they don't make it rated R. That would suck I want it to be PG-13.

  • I'm really glad that Summit is at least starting to bring BD to life... One... two movies I do not care, After New Moon and Eclipse one NEED'S Breaking Dawn lol!

And its like to baby to toodler but they have to be perfectly alike so im happy that Stephenie is getting right into the action and involved more in the directing and the script and all that cus that is her baby and ours 2. :P

One or two movies...it doesnt matter to me. Just give me the movie! I wish they would get CH to come back for the 4th one. People can say what they want about her but she gets the "heat" between Edward and Bella. She would make it a great film! Second wish, that they would get rid of MR...she is terrible!

  • FELLSHIGH

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! IM SO HAPPY BREAKING DAWN IS GOIN AHEAD IF ITS ANYTHING LIKE THE BOOK ITS GOING TO B AWESOME AND LIKE THE BOOK THE BEST FILM!!!!!!! CANT WAIT TO C BELLA AS A VAMPIRE!!!!!!!! RENEESME IS GONA BE EPIC!!!!

  • breeana88

I think they should use CGI for renesmee.

  • gyleches

I don't know why they can't raise the budget. These movies make millions! I think if they make it into 2 movies ( I hope so) that the 1st one should end with Jacob coming downstairs and his eyes widening because he sees Renesmee but not showing her. And coming from upstairs the sound of Bella flatlining. Pretty dramatic yes?

  • Negative BD Fan

I don't mean to be negative... But am I the only one who READ Breaking Dawn? It was terrible. The first 100 pages or so were good, and the rest just fell from there.

On the positive side, if they get Renesmee to work, the entire movie would be very visually appealing.

Having said all this, I am a Twilight fan (I read the novels when they first came out, not because they were making a movie) and even though I personally thought BD wasn't good, I'll still be lined up to see the movie =)

  • Glo Cullen

  • heather16

It has to become a film, and I think it would be better as 2 moives, there is just so much in the book to be one! but like most i wouldnt mind sitting 3-4 hrs for it! SOOOOOOO STOKED!!!!

  • yes i think we should all be g8ful that they're making another movie, but whats the point in making it if it's not gonna b @ least half as good as d book. for ppl who have read the book will be most disappointed in how it turns out if they just decide 2 make a movie just for the fun of it without thinking how it would please ppl & themselves 2 c how much ratings they would get.

  • twifan

its great news that their going to be a movie nd i ddont realy mind if it was a long movie its better then waiting for the nx one to come out !! nd wt a great news that rob kriss nd tay is in the movie lets just hope that all the cast is staying in it we all got use to them nd we will miss them if they left mostly the cullen family !!!!!!

  • Cullengirl

There is far too much for one film. They could film it back to back like they have with films such as back to the future. Or they could even film it as one film but split it up into 2. I just don't want to see loads missed out as there is so much in the book. I don't want her vampire bits skipped over cos they are vital to skip straight to the fighting just to "keep up the pace" And as much as I like Jacob's character and he is essential to the film...I don't want an entire film about his perspective so I really don't know how they would split it. Unless book 1 and 2, then book 3 were separated. It needs all the bits. i think it is the best book of them all really. Whatever they do, I just hope they release all the bits they have cut on the special disk version.
Although that brings me to another point and I really wish film directors would take notice. Films adapted from books, especially if the books are popular, true fans would sit through 3 or 4 or longer hours to watch the film, so why not release directors cuts where all deleted/extended scenes (and from different angle shots) are in even if it means splitting the film onto more than one disk and charging us more. We would buy it! I hate seeing behind the scenes shots and clips where the scenes aren't in and you know they have been cut. The better edit from the directors and the fans point of view are not the same thing. In Twilight the kissing scene shouldn't have been cut so much grrrr.
