‘New Moon’ takes in $42.5 M, at #1 at box office again

According to Entertainment Weekly, New Moon took in another $42.5 million domestically this holiday weekend, bringing its US total to $230.6 million and its worldwide total to $473.6 million.

Studio execs should give plenty of thanks to female moviegoers: The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Blind Side led the best-ever Thanksgiving weekend at the box office by drawing women and families into theaters, while male-centric newcomers Old Dogs and Ninja Assassin only earned so-so numbers.

Following its record-breaking first weekend, first-place finisher New Moon brought in $42.5 million over the three-day (Friday through Sunday) weekend, driving its cume to a fantastic $230.7 million — the sixth highest of the year, just below Star Trek ($257.7 million). Not far behind, The Blind Side came in at No. 2 with $40.1 million by appealing to audiences who would rather watch a movie about football than stay home for a game on TV. With a $100.3 million total so far, the pigskin pic is Sandra Bullock’s second $100 million hit of the year after this summer’s The Proposal ($164 million).

    its not about the money for making breaking dawn because hell yea new moon made alot of money and i bet eclipse will to and summit also has other movies that are coming out that they can use money from cuz it is their money they can do watever they want with it's just their not sure how their going to do the whole birth scene with bella but i heard kirsten stewart said if they do it she can't wait to play a pregant girl

    new moon was great! i have personally read all the series over and over. and although it wasn't all technically accurate to the book, it's understandable to have to re-arrange some things seeing how they had to fit alot into 2 hours. i will say though, i didn't feel like edward got to show his affection for Bella much. or the chemistry seemed a little off to me, almost like he wasn't as protective. I don't know if anyone agrees with that or not. that was just my take on it.

    I loved new moon but i juts wanted to say that in a magazine dakota fanning confirmed that all actors have agreed to make breaking dawn and i also read in another source that breaking dawn was a deffinate go ahead

  • Im thinking atleast by the new year they will officially greenlight BD. You know eclipse will bring in just as much, if not more, money. I saw it twice in theater and would gladly give them more money if it means they will make BD.

    YAY!! I bet they will announce quite soon that Breaking Dawn will be made..they will have to start production soon so the cast don't age much. So glad they have made so much money (with lots more to come in DVD/merchandise sales) - they deserve it!!!

    wow i so hope they make breaking dawn it would be so totally awesome especially if they go exactly like the book

    Of course they're going to make Breaking Dawn. Hell look how much they made just within the short few days New Moon has been playing. They're going to be making BIG money with the next one, so it would only make sense to finish the series. Its kind of like Pirates of the Carribean (those movies made BANK!!!!)

    burmasan, you are so logical...lol...Love the whole series, but Breaking Dawn was definitly my favorite! And they have already made Eclipse in Vancouver(I believe) so it would be nonsense if they did not do Breaking dawn! Love it! Too bad it wont come out sooner:(

    Most Def!!! Actually I THINK they are done with Eclipse.... Not sure on that. ^_^ It'll come soon enough. Greatness comes to those who wait!

    as a vancouver local i will confirm eclips is gone to postproduction filming has been done for a while

    Yeah Eclipse has already finished filming - it's in post production now geting it ready for release...so excited!!

    Um, according to okay magazine, they have already finished it, and are now working on the last one. But cant believe everything that they say ya know.

    what now twilight haters?!?!?!"uh oh umm oo" yeah speechless.this movie deserves all that money and the cast was awesome especially bella she did a great job i couldnt have pulled off her facial expressions like i would have been laughing and embarresed.hmmm i wonder eclipse........
