“New Moon” breaks all-time midnight box office record

New Moon has burst right out of the gates with a whopping take of $26 million in the US, just for Thursday night’s midnight showing.  That is the record intake for a midnight film. EVER!

Summit has announced that The Twilight Saga: New Moon has officially set a new all-time midnight box office record, taking in $26.27M from 3514 theaters.

This shatters The Dark Knight’s $18.4M midnight debut for a 3-day weekend. It also easily surpasses the all-time record for midnight showings which was held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which took in $22.2M on a Tuesday night on its way to a 5-day weekend total of $158M. The Dark Knight went on to take in $67.17M that opening day, dropped 29.1% from Friday to Saturday to bring in another $47.65M, and ended with $43.6M on Sunday for an opening weekend total of $158.4M.

    This book was sooooooo much better thn Twilight!! Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner looked equally hot in the movie.. and thus im both team edward and team Jacob!!! This was way more accurate to the book thn twilight... and i guess it deserved to set the new box- office record!

    I have never watched a movie TWICE in the same day BUT OMG!!!!It was fantastic...lived up to my expectations and have seen it three times now, twice on FRIDAY and once on SATURDAY.... I absolutely LOVED it!!!!and I am in my 30's

    i am not in my teens but i luv the books New Moon being my favorite from the series,,,and was so excited about the movie that i bought the tixs for me and 9 of my girls in advance and was so disappointed I could cry. The movie was slow, their acting was blah...the only good performamce came from Taylor as Jacob and the Voltouri other then that they left the most intergal part of the breakup and the makeup between Edward and Bella out. Im sorry guys but im not happy with this movie it is definitely catered for teens who havent even experienced whwt first love is really like. (so sad)

    I just watched the movie and I am without of words.......I mean after all this time finally to see the movie, it is great....But at the other side I think, that I saw too much of the movie before it came out and Edward did not "touched" me like in the books, it´s because the scenes are smaller....and Jacob....wow!!....he was amazing, just like Jasper and Charlie.....whatever, the movie was amazing and can´t wait for Eclips....
  • seen it twice already and loved it more each time! different style of shooting the film this time (different director so no surprise i guess) but i think that was advantageous! some of the camera shots were intimidating! Jake went from cute to downright scary and intimidating! Hats off to all in the making and creating of this instalment, romance, humour, fear etc - i think it was well balanced in relation to the book.*sigh* yet another Twilight movie I will be watching over and over...

  • I just loved the movie .. didn't miss anything important from the book, and the vulturi fight ... great scene and it wasn't even in the book, so, amazing job!

    I'll miss Rachelle ... she's the perfect Victoria <3

    who cares what the reviews said I thought the movie was awesome!!! And how real can they make a warewolf? esp around people so on that note the whole movie was amazing!!! Loved all the actors and the movie was soooooooo much better then twilight!!! Finally got to see the corky side of alice!

    The special effects were great too! I loved the wolves great special effects and I loved when Bella almost drowned and when she put her hand by Edward he faded away. It was really good effects :)

    The movie was AMAZING :D it was everything I knew it would be :) Wow that's crazy it made all that in 1 night. Wow. I can't wait to see how much Eclipse will make! lol. amazing movie :) <3

    i figured it would,.....
    i will say i went to the premire where i am from and people seemed to be disapointed with it a little, but thats to be expected sometimes though when you switch directors i wish they would have kept Catherine Hardwicke she brought something magical to Twilight.

    Absolultey amazing film plus great atmosphere with everyone chearing - just like seeing a stage show - it was electric - literally!! Sparkle effect plus their eyes were sooooooooooo much better! AND Rob P with no top - yummy! Can't wait for Eclipse!!!

  • I absolutely loved the movie. I saw the double feature at my movie theater on Thursday night, and then went to school. New Moon was so much better than Twilight, and so much more accurate to the book. Even though New Moon is my least favorite of the series, it was still a very good movie. I'm on Team Edward, so I was a little unhappy that I enjoyed the movie while Edward wasn't in it much. There were some things that I wish had been different like the ending, and the sleepover because Alice was supposed to tell Bella her story. Other than that I loved it, can't wait for it to come out on DVD, and I can't wait for Eclipse. I have very high expectations for Eclipse because it's my favorite book of the series. GO TEAM EDWARD!!! :D

    That's exactly how I felt. I was annoyed that Edward apologized in the alley in italy, instead of to a half asleep Bella in her room. And the marriage condition was not supposed to happen in the forest, it should have been in her bedroom followed by Edward's "injured surprise" and Charlie giving Bella grief. But that was pretty much it. Up until around the cliff dive scene, the movie was dead on with the book. 219 Days till ECLIPSE!!! :D
