“New Moon” breaks all-time midnight box office record

nmstill017

New Moon has burst right out of the gates with a whopping take of $26 million in the US, just for Thursday night’s midnight showing.  That is the record intake for a midnight film. EVER!

Summit has announced that The Twilight Saga: New Moon has officially set a new all-time midnight box office record, taking in $26.27M from 3514 theaters.

This shatters The Dark Knight’s $18.4M midnight debut for a 3-day weekend. It also easily surpasses the all-time record for midnight showings which was held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which took in $22.2M on a Tuesday night on its way to a 5-day weekend total of $158M. The Dark Knight went on to take in $67.17M that opening day, dropped 29.1% from Friday to Saturday to bring in another $47.65M, and ended with $43.6M on Sunday for an opening weekend total of $158.4M.

  • 26 million in US for Thursday midnight showing alone...that's a great start for this movie.
  • Well New Moon has done it!!! It broke an all time record for the midnight showing last night. I have come to realize that if the movie cridics give a movie a bad review them it turns out to be a good movie. I have read all the books time after time and they get better each and every time. I am already counting down the days for Eclipse. You can mark your calenders for June 30th,2010. For Twilight fans this is a must see movie!! Team Edward still Rocks!!
  • I absolutely loved the movie. I saw the double feature at my movie theater on Thursday night, and then went to school. New Moon was so much better than Twilight, and so much more accurate to the book. Even though New Moon is my least favorite of the series, it was still a very good movie. I'm on Team Edward, so I was a little unhappy that I enjoyed the movie while Edward wasn't in it much. There were some things that I wish had been different like the ending, and the sleepover because Alice was supposed to tell Bella her story. Other than that I loved it, can't wait for it to come out on DVD, and I can't wait for Eclipse. I have very high expectations for Eclipse because it's my favorite book of the series. GO TEAM EDWARD!!! :D

That's exactly how I felt. I was annoyed that Edward apologized in the alley in italy, instead of to a half asleep Bella in her room. And the marriage condition was not supposed to happen in the forest, it should have been in her bedroom followed by Edward's "injured surprise" and Charlie giving Bella grief. But that was pretty much it. Up until around the cliff dive scene, the movie was dead on with the book. 219 Days till ECLIPSE!!! :D

I am happy for them :) Although the reviews are pretty negative :/

I know!! it is getting bad reviews and that sucks but you know what I hardly listen to the movie critics because I had read some bad reviews about another movies and you know what ppl loved the movies. So F... them movie critics hehe

I really like this movie...it was missing some things but again you can't put everything the book has in the movie! way better than the first one! It had more action and not to say that the werewolves were great! Probably Edward fans weren't so happy he didn't got so much screening as Jacob but that was how the book was too. I personally liked it and the ending was a good hangover! xD bet everyone will look forward to seen the next movie! I know I am! Great job guys!

ok....I watched New Moon and I am a little disappointed with the lack of flow of the movie?!?!!??! I wasn't disappointed in the lack of Edward's appearance, because I read the book 5 times......I am still Team Edward....lol ~~~Eclipse better Rock!!!
  • stephie1984
i was disappointed with the ending...it was nothing like the book... where was charlie and the motorcycle....why didn't bella get grounded for the motorcycle..that was a key point in the book :( but for everything else it was great!!!

The movie was honestly one of the most accurate book adapted screen-plays ever... yeah they changed stuff and left stuff out, but thats because its a movie and they cannot fit almost 600 pages of stuff into a movie. It was already 2 hrs and 10 minutes long, really any longer and people start to get annoyed. They didn't really change anything as sever as they did in the first film. I mean honestly what they hell do they have to do to please you people. It was fantastic, Kristen Stewart was fantastic, Robert represented Edward perfectly, and Taylor has even swayed hard core team Edward fans to become team Jacob. Stop picking a movie apart because it didn't have one or two scenes you wanted. Learn to love the book for what it is and the movie for what it is. And New Moon was an amazing book, and a just as amazing film.

Dude I totally agree with that!!! But it seems no matter how great they played the book into a movie people are always going to talk bad about something!!! But the fact that remains is we know who all the real twilight fans are! The one's not dissing the small things that were left out!!!! awesome book and super suprised about how awesome the movie was

Yeah...you're a "real fan" alright....a real fan of the ridiculous twilight barbie dolls and shower cutains. You're a real fan of the cheese-tastic FRANCHISE! .....NOT the Books. Remember those? Probably not, I'm sure staying true to the source material is a little too trivial for a "real fan" like you...you're probably too busy with Twlight New Moon chocolate bars and pencil cases. Yeah...you know where the royalties...oops...I mean loyalties lie right?
  • Belle (Team Wolf & Cullen)
I agree that this movie is probably the most accurate to a book in the history of books made into movies but I also feel that the whole motorcycle scene and Jacob and Charlie at the end was an important part that should have been in there.
I dont really mind the other stuff they've taken out but you have to agree that this part was legitimate. I did like their endings, I just think that part should have been included because its that important
We love these books so much that I dont think the fans would have cared that it lasted 4hrs or so....lol. Seriously I felt bitter sweet as i watched it cause I wanted it to last forever but with all the removal and the switching, I know it wouldnt even be 2hr30.

Overall I love it. I really do. New Moon was for the fans.

I agree with you so much, I think it was a great movie, the new parts they had turned out to even make the movie better to me, I was completely happy with it, and I cant wait to go see it again actually.

ACTUALLY IT DID CHANGE KEY SCENES! I adore the books (can't stand the franchise!) They changed key scenes that were pivotal to the plot and the emotion you feel behind them. Instead, they threw in cheesey music and ridiculous slow-mo scenes of "Edward" walking toward Bella in the parking lot....what? How absurd. OR, how about Bella writing EMAILS to a nonexistent account belonging to Alice....again I ask...WHAT? Robert Pattinson did a horrendous job portraying his character's protectivness and emotion (case in point: Bellas "visions") He just seemed to be reciting lines. I understand that no movie will ever do justice to the book...however, this was a sad, ridiculous adaptation of what could have been epic.

I liked the ending it was a cliff hanger and btw Chris Weitz said in a interview that the ending was going to be different. I loved the whole movie I wasn't disappointed.

P.S. We all love the books but remember they never put in a movie exactly as it goes in the books and for me Chris Weitz did a great job and in my opinion he covered pretty much the whole book
  • I totally agree... it was like they introduced it and then just dropped it.. no scene of her going to the hospital and for those of you who have not read the book, that totally explains the grounding issue. Other than that... I totally enjoyed the movie!!
  • Adilene
    i honestly LOVED the movie...
of course they cant have everything thats on the book because it would be like 4 hrs long..
but i thik it was still GREAT! i really liked the extra action they added to it..
New Moon was my least favorite book because is very slow..
i thought the movie was going to be very bad, but i liked it SO much better than the Twilight movie..
    I'm very happy for them!
    we're making them rich.. LOL
  • kayzaarr
i might be going to see new moon tomorrow, heaps of people said its really good :)
yayyyy, i hope i get to see it tomozzz
  • rhiteamjacob
New Moon was absolutely brilliant!! I loved how Chris Weitz built the relationship between Bella and Jacob, it gives people that haven't the read the book a clear enough signal that there's definite chemistry between the two. The movie flowed beautifully (and shot beautifully too!) and it was the perfect balance of pleasing the most hardcore fans to appealing to other audiences that might not have read the books. Alot of my friends didn't like that Bella told Jacob she loved him at the end but I think they misunderstood what she meant by it, throughout the book she always talked about love when referring to Jacob and thought she might not realise she's "in love" with him until Eclipse, but she does acknowledge her feelings for him are more than friends. Absolute 10 out of 10!!
