Harry Potter director passed on Twilight

Once again, we see Twilight and Harry Potter mentioned together. This time, they are linked by a director.

How would our beloved Twilight have been if Catherine Hardwicke hadn’t taken the helm? Apparently, well-regarded director Chris Columbus considered the script early on. He had other obligations and had to pass. But it is interesting to imagine what changes would have been made. Columbus director the first two Harry Potter films, getting them off to a hugely successful start.

From the sounds of it, looks like he isn’t too upset he passed on it. Why dwell on the past, right? Check out the article here.

She missed out so much.. i mean ive read the book but sister hadn't and when she watched the film i was like omg they missed out so much like alice and james, jacob telling bella (which 4 the second is a lil important for bellas n jacobs convo in her room), bella and blood ect.. and she was so pset by it becasue she is omeone who doesnt read and i feel people whoo dont or havent yet read the books miss out on so much then in the other films or if they read the other books the understanding isnt there. i get that not all can be put in a film but the killings from vic, james and laurent didnt need to be there annd so many even the little details should have been kept.

is it just me here? i mean tell me if you agree the only thing i really wished shed put in the film was thre meadow scene, were edward explains everything to bella, why he he hated her so much when they met, why her blood calls for him , and like in the movie they just threw that in whent he was sangling in tree for 3 seconds. jesus, that upset me cus that scene is soo sweet, i think i agree with the above comments, they should have mentioned alice loved james,
    agree much?
i love the books, and tbh, catherine hardwick, yes she may have changed it, she had stepheine meyers back all the time, stepheine meyer was fine with the movie soo? i think catherine did good considering she hasnt done much horror of romance of this kind of film before.

I do agree that the film was missing lots of important parts. But not everything could have been put into the film. If it had the film would be too long and soon become boring to watch. Catherine Hardwicke did do a good job to bring our obsession to life, but we cant expect it to be absolutely perfect and just like the book.

I agree that Peter Jackson would have done a wonderful job, not so sure about Chris. I felt that he made the 1st two HP films too Enid Blyton for my liking. I much prefered the 3rd HP because of the incredible atmoshpere in it. However, I think anyone would have been better than Catherine.

Hey has anyone thought of Peter Jackson directing Twilight series. Chris and Peter would have done a way better job with the movie.

  • Josie

Just thinking... those important details will probably come out in later films - like, the nightmare is going to be in New Moon. Also I think it's fair to say that the book isn't written amazingly well, even though it is extremely difficult to put down - most of it was Bella fawning over Edward and tbh I don't think Bella has any backbone, she could've been such a strong character but she kind of fell apart in New Moon. I think that Bella isn't exactly a good role-model for girls reading the book - she's basically teaching them that a boy is everything and you can't live without him - not the case at all! Also, though I love Twilight, if I had the choice of re-reading Twilight or Harry Potter I'd rather immerse myself in Harry Potter. Just my opinion, I love both, but I love Potter more. And I'm Team Jacob :-)

  • I really agree that the movie was a bit disappointing after reading the book. I would have like to see Alice's story in the movie because it is also a part of how Alice and Jasper met. But the thing I was really upset about was how she depicted Edward's control over himself. Like the first kiss and when he suck the venom from her blood. He is a much stronger character than in the movie. My question bad director? Or bad screen play writer?

  • I don't know, he probably would've done a better job.

i reckon it would have been WAY better with Chris as the director. i just read the full story and i feel kinda sorry for him. it would be weird seeing the same cast and crew from his movie with a different director.

  • Kaitlin I <3 Edward Cullen

Hmmm..... maybe he would'vmade twilight better...

  • camila

I guess she missed too many things and there were things in uncorrect places... for example the first kiss wasn't in bella's room... I'd be interesting to see the Chris's idea

  • Celayha

Hah .. it would've been WAAAYYY better ... these movies SUCK

  • cullenluver

she did miss lot's i agree, such as alice's story, the blood typing, and even little things like how each of the class rooms were supposed to be individual buildings not a huge school, or the fact that it was supposed to be SUNNY at the beach, not a sweal and then she went to a book store to discover that edward was a vamp, jake never broke the treaty like he was supposed to....she said she would stay true to the book cuz she was a fan...some fan!!! (no offence)

PS house was supposed to be rectangular and white w/ rustic look not fresh and new, brown and funky :P...luved the house though ;)

  • sundropgirl

I"m with u...She missed alot of important details out of the movie ...i was disapointed at the movie.

  • Sobek

It's not like he didn't miss a lot of key parts of the Harry Potters also. Twilight was better off without him.

  • Michelle Piñero

I'm with you twilighter she missed so many important details I know they can put everything from the book but she left out that james knew alice when she was a human and I think that was an important detail

  • Hari

I agree! Also the fact that blood makes Bella faint, I think is quite important!

  • It is intresting to think of what it could have been like.

  • TWILIGHTER

pff it would have been better.. I believe catherine missed too many things.. chris columbus.. would have made it more accurate :D

  • Lea

oh totally, she added things , and that pissed more then just me off. you can't go doing that if your taking from a popular book! idiots

  • Emma

Completley agree... i think it would have been better if she hadn't missed the biology fainting thing and she sould have put how James knew about Alice's human past.. i thought that was a big plot line...

PLUS! The Harry Potter films are so close to the book its untrue!

  • erin

ha thats a laugh the fourth movie was horrible and one ron dosent go into quidditch in the sixth book its the fifth so the whole movie is fucked up plus they leave the whol thing with dobby out

  • Hailey

You may want to read a little more carefully and brush up on your movie knowledge. Columbus was the director for the FIRST TWO FILMS, not the 4th or 5th.
I defininetly thought Catherine did a terrible job with Twilight, though she did add SOME interesting things in, like the whole volleyball scene was very cute. Other than that, the movie came out horribly cheezy, and ultimately missing ALOT. However this is a book with alot of expectations and she did try her best, so kudos for trying :)
