Unfortunately your story is a fact of life, even pets get sick from their owners 2nd hand smoke BUT that is not enough to stop ppl from doing it because those cases are the exception not the norm.

Many ppl do not smoke because they A: listened to those who told them not to
B: figured it out for themselves after trial & error C: just have no interest in it what so ever

The fact is that ppl will chose to do what they will even AFTER they are confronted with all the ugly, nasty facts of their choice!
I knew what drugs were about & I still did them! I guess I was stubborn. I had to learn on my own. I think it was that all ppl told me were they were "bad" but I thought I was to smart, to pretty, to this & that to get hooked on anything bad or ruin my life. Or I could stop when I wanted to.

Nicotine is very much like a Heroin Addiction, it attacks the same pleasure centers of the brain that makes it a pleasurable experience, it attacks the same areas of the brain that make u withdraw from it too.

Some ppl are hardwired w/an addictive personality & no matter what you toss their way will chose to do said substances no matter what.

Sad but true. I guess we should outlaw ALL substances that can kill and/or make u ill & get u addicted.

Food, coffee, tobacco, liquor....

CHOICES:People need to be armed with ALL of the facts, the good, bad & ugly & then make the right choice for themselves! All of this bickering amongst ourselves is not going to stop that next kiddy from picking up a coffin nail.

EDUCATION: It needs to go farther than "Smoking is bad, it makes you smell" that's crap! Show pictures or intro kids to ppl dying from lung cancer & emphysema! Let them see the cold hard truth of their choices.

i think people, teenagers especially, who are that easily influenced have a very low self estm. How many actors smoke, there not quiting just because there in the public eye. Twilighters need to take it down a notch if they're going to start killing themselves with ciggerates because the stars are (and thats saying something, considering how much i love twilight)

I agree, if people look up to the cast of Twilight and they see that they're smoking, people are gonna want to smoke too. There is people who really look up to some people of the cast and wanna be just like them so they would most likely begin to smoke too. I think it's good that they're trying to stop smoking to be better role models.

Are you kidding? Somking is throwing away your body that could be used for so many other good things such as acting. I think it's awesome if they want to quit smoking. They should stick to their standards!

Tiffany are you for real? I know this lovely older lady, never smoked a day in her life and neither did any of her family. What is she dying from? lung cancer! 2nd hand smoke kills. I've heard this before like it's their choice, their life, etc. but unfortunately I wish it was that easy! Even so, I think the fact that ALL the actors/actresses on Twilight are smoking means that there is a social aspect to smoking…also meaning they could influence their fans in a negative way. I've also heard the line that “it's so hard to smoke because my friends smoke” which to me is an excuse. Carol Brunette's daughter apologized to her on her dealth bed for smoking…think of the anguish to a person's family even if they don't give their family members' cancer from 2nd hand smoke. If you are a smoker I hope you quit! When you are young you think nothing can “touch you” but you don't want to be 40 and have cancer…you have to look down the road. No one said it's easy to quit, but there are ways if you are truly committed to it. The key is to never start and I would hope no fans start smoking because of Robert & Kristen's BAD habit.

It's harmful to everyone around them and it's harmful to them. Take it from the child of a lifetime smoker who went to the hospital with bronchial pneumonia twice as an infant and has chronic bronchitis — all as the result of exposure to second hand smoke. And as for the smoker herself? She has emphysema, is confined to a wheelchair and has lost her senses of taste and smell — ALL of it because she smoked.

Sorry, but that just isn't true…kids are influenced by their behaviour. If they weren't AS popular, they wouldn't have as much influence, but they do. Also, I care because it's killing them and everyone else around them through 2nd hand smoke. As Emma said, smoking is bad for you! If ONE person starts smoking because they do, that is one too many.

I hear where your coming from Alyssa however perhaps those that let themselves be led by the ones playing PRETEND on screen for a living should not be in a position to make decisions for themselves in their REAL lives as they are obviously not strong enough mentally to do so. Perhaps an institution of some kind, after all if the stupid decision being followed was jumping off the bridge we would intervene to save them and then lock them up, why should the stupid decision to smoke because their favorite movie star does it be any different?? On the really unfortunate side it sounds like you are one of those people that make decisions based on what your favorite actor does as you seem to be defending them…..time for the nice white jacket with the extra long sleeves that do up in back???? Perhaps

i think its great for the cast to take inconsideration that their role modles and are trying to quit smoking. if its only ash and nik taking it seriosly i think the others need to try harder. not only is it for the public but its good for their health too.

Sadly, there are people who would sit there and say “Omg they're smoking! I want to do that too!” and then they get their friends to do it too and it is really bad for everybody. Not everybody is as responsible as you are.

I agree with you Amanda. I hate smoking, and im old enough to know not to even if actors are doing it, but there are poeple out there who smoke only because their favorite actors are. It is wonderful that they are trying to be better role models.

I think it is brilliant that some(or hopefully all) have decided to quit and are taking it seriously. Being in the public eye all the time won't set a good example if they are smoking some of the time. I know smoking is really a personal choice but as they are role models for sooo many young people out there it doesnt seem right. Children copy what they see and if they see someone they like smoking they may take it up just to copy them despite the harmful effects. I used to smoke because the people i were friends with and (used to) 'looked up' to smoked. But it had no positive effects. So if they are quiting I think it is a really good thing for them to do, although I personally wouldnt think any less of them for smoking as, unlike many others, know its not something to copy.
