Twilight stars work to be better role models

There is no denying that the hugely popular cast of The Twilight Saga are considered role models to teens all over the world. It seems a few of the cast are feeling the pressure. According to The Awful Truth, Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed are trying to quit smoking.

“Everyone on the cast smokes, and they are all trying to quit because they are on Twilight and know they are in the public eye,” says a friend close to Ms. Reed. But the only people taking it seriously seem to be Ash and Nik.

“[Ashley and Nikki] know they are role models for little kids,” says the pal. “If there are a ton of paparazzi photos of them smoking, that’s not a positive image.”

ok yh they should stop and yh they are role models but they have so much presssure they don't care if they die apparently i mean it might happen and yh it has happend where my exbff saw her hero niki smoking and she decided to becaoue she wants to be in hollywood too i don't talk to her but i try to stop her. So yh they hould stop

Yeah, i, for one, know the damage it causes, because my aunty has gone through hell, just to get better, and she's still not going to ever recover, from the lung cancer, and the meds the doc's put her on. i dont want to see non famous / famous people trying to make temselves feel better, when they'll just cause themselves hell later on. i like this trying to become better "role models"...

why do they smoke anyway? its gross not to mention the damge it does to your body inside and out. they should'nt be giving up because there "role models" they should be giving up because of the damage they are doing to themselves and to the environment not many people consider what effect smoking has on the environment but a bi-product of burning anything is carbon dioxide(basic combustion formula)and other gases because of the chemicals in ciggarettes. smoking is stupid there screwing over themselves and the planet

That's absurd, I for one as a kid was impressionable (OOOHHH I HAVE TO HAVE THOSE RED SHOES, OH MY GOD I AM GONNA DIE IF I DONT GET THOSE PANTS,Etc.)
BUT I NEVER saw a older adult whom was my "role model" smoking & said "I want to smoke cuz Johnny Depp" does, he was the one person we all loved when I was a tween, 21 Jump Street era.
IF kids parents/guardians,etc., talk to them & tell them smoking WILL kill you & it sux nuts most likely they will keep that in mind.
I grew up w/smokers all around me & it was not until late HS that I wanted to smoke! It was friendz that did it to me not a pic out of "Tiger beat" or whatever the equivalent is that made me wanna smoke.'
Basically it is ALL around us, it everywhere the moment u step out the door.
Especially at school. That is where the real pressure comes in to smoke & do other stuff harmful to you not seeing Rob Pattz hold a ciggy.

WELL I THINK THE WHOLE CAST SHOULD QUIT CUZ THE EFFECTS ARENT THAT GOOD!! JUST DONT WORK THEM TOO HARD , CUZ QUITTING IS HARD ENOUGH!! but definetly quit smoking.

I'm pretty sure that Ashley doesn't smoke. She never said that she does on the video and in all the pictures where the cast is smoking, she and Taylor are always off without cigarettes. I haven't seen a single picture of her yet smoking. I haven't seen Jackson or Taylor smoking either. So I think that the whole main cast smokes except Ashley, Jackson, and Taylor. I might be wrong but I haven't seen any public pictures of her with a smoke in her hand, even when Rob, Kristen, or Emmett are smoking right in front of her.

i think its a good thing because kids tent to do wat celebs do and say. kids tend to act like celebs and imiate what they do because they thinks it cool so i thinks its a good thing that they are making a change

I think it is sad that people smoke. it's bad for you. but, yeah it is a bad example bcuz kids will be all like "I know smoking is bad for you but, all the cool people are doing it...." and they'll do it too just so they can look cool. I'm glad that Ash & Nikki are trying to make a difference tho! :)

Well I don't particularly mind, people shouldn't be so stupid to look at others doingnit and think 'wow that's cool', I mean yeah I think they should try for their own health but that's the only good reason for them to have to. I want 'Robsten' to happen, they have so much chemistry on screen they must have a thing for each other.

I would definetly quit smoking since I do want people to like me and to have fans. I would never want a picture of me out in public smoking.That just gives off a bad picture.Like it would tell everyone to the kids i may say that its alright to smoke and its not. So I'm glad that the cast members are trying to quit thats good! keep up the good work!Love you all!<3

i personally don't care if they smoke or they don't smoke. however, i think smoking is bad for you and i would never partake in the activity. i do think it is really great that they are trying to stop. it tells me that they take their job seriously and they want to be positive role models.

Um....... I think they should focus on getting Kristen Stewart off drugs!!! Is it just me or does it look like she is so stoned in that pic that the other two are holding her up!! I think I have seen like one pic where she doesnt look high!! I am glad that they understand that smoking is bad and that they are now in the public eye.......... But come on get the poor girl in rehab!!!!!

ok think about it this series is aimed more toward young adults not young children most teens no that smoking is a part of the world just like killings and war i as one understand that people do smoke its a part of most house holds and if they havent tried it by now then them somking isnt going to do that ... i think about it lets say you have a favorite teacher at school and you go out for lunch and you see him/her smoking areyou going attamackly go buy cig.s i mean no.... i agree that they should quick smoking but not for the sole purpose of there fans...

i think it really depends on people. i hate smoking, and i swear that i would never ever touch cigarrette in my life. so it doesnt really matter to me if they are smoking or not, because i am the one who makes the choice, and they definitely didnt change my point of view about smoking. i say i wouldnt, then i wont. but if there are really those people that were like "omg they are smoking! i wanna try too!" i think its absolutely STUPID!!!!!

I think it is a great idea if they quit smoking. Not only is it preventing immature teens from following in their footsteps, it is also a healthy decision for the actors/actresses. The stage of adolescents is primarily focused on finding one's own identity - how they appear or act around people other than their parents. When they see these super hot actors and actresses smoking cigarettes - the habit of smoking suddenly becomes glorified in the eyes of adoring teenagers. Most teens want to look attractive to their peers and fit in with the crowd. If these famous, beautiful celebrities are smoking, some teenagers might absurdly believe that smoking will also make them attractive and "cool." As a college student, it is depressing to see so many other kids between the ages of 18 and 21 start smoking. I am sure they all took the mandatory health classes in high school. These teens and young adults clearly think smoking makes them appear more attractive to their friends. Otherwise, why would anyone so young start smoking in college. Smoking is probably the most unhealthy habit.

as a non-smoker,i think it would be great if they could all stop smoking,and not just for the fans but for themselves,however i can understand why they do with all the stress of their fame and job. It would be nice to see the younger twilight cast for sure not smoke,atleast not when they are in the public eye so that their youngest fans do not see that.

smoking is disgusting so i wouldn't smoke anyway and i deffinately wouldn't smoke just because some famous people did it but some people would. i think it is good that they are trying to quit and i think that other cast members should try if not for their fans then for their own health.

I think it's great, not only that they're trying to quit, but trying to make good role models. After all, they are being watched by a LOT of ppl aged from 12-30 .. lol!! Everyone I know is totally into Twilight, and can't wait for New Moon. So, cheers to them for trying.. in the end, if they kept the bad habit gone, it could increase their health.. so why not? When I smoked, only given a reason to quit, is when I could... They def have a reason. so I say go for it!!
